Fun place, great brews! Great IPA- super hoppy. Other brews in the sampler hit the mark as well. Great fish sandwich, and cool atmosphere. Full of people on a Fri nite.

Russian Stout and the IPA were excellent. The Red Ale, the Bitters and the Stout were good as well. Has a Russian Stout in the cask which was very excellent. Food was good to great. The mussels were excellent, but the burger was standard fair. Not crowded which sometimes is just fine. Got music in the backgroup

The Russian Imperial Stout was awesome. The Irish Red and Pilsner paled in comparison, or perhaps it was because they were following the stout. The Zuppa made with local mussels was good, but not worth the $10, and the catfish for almost $17 was the same bland farm-raised crap you get anywhere else. I wanted the haddock but they were out. The wifi keeps taking a dump and the bartender doesn't seem to care, or thinks it's my fault, but it keeps coming back online, so that's OK.

I recently stopped by Trinity after a three-year hiatus. I was completely underwhelmed. The place was totally dead, with a new depressing vibe that hadn't been there before. The beer quality seems to have dropped as well; my IPA was watery and somewhat dirty tasting. Not a fun stop.

Delicious flavorful beer here. The IPA was quite hoppy, plenty of bitter and aroma.
We also tried their Brown Ale, which the server said would be similar to a Newcastle. It was very good, but much more body and roasted flavor than a Newcastle.
The angus burger I had was cooked a bit more than I asked for, but the meat quality made it still pretty good.
Great atmosphere; much funkier and warmer than the Union brewery down the street.
Cheers,

Trinity Clains to have the freshest beer in RI and I would have to agree when comparing with Union Station down the street. The beers I tried, an IPA and a Red tasted under fermented to me (also they aren't filtered like the place down the streets are). Another couple of weeks and it the flavors would have a chance to develop fully.
Also the brew house (which you can see behind the bar) always appears filthy with grain dust and drips down the sids of kettles. Perhaps the flavor of the beer seems off to me because of wild yeast?
Anyway it is an OK place to go for a bite to eat and a microbrew, though I prefer the "other place" down the street.

Not just another brewpub, the IPA is excellent (has awards to show), and the Russian Stout (if available) will make you burp hoppiness for hours and its 9+ % to boot. Burgers and othe food are great. The basement is the place to go for more casual - pool table's always fun, but unfortunately they removed the ever-popular pinball; had a ps2 in the chopped off half of a VW bus for a while. Beats Union hands down. Union might have the biz croud and look more respectable, but this is real beer. Keep it up. Used to have a mug club with rediculous discounts.

"I've always hoped an even trade would get worked out with Union Station 2 blocks away, whose food is pretty damn fabulous, and can't brew a decent pint to save their lives."
When is the last time you were into Union? If it's been a while, give 'em another go. New brewer Tim Pyne has brewed up a great IPA (The Ripple) to challenge (better, imo) Trinity's RI IPA. Also, a solid Trippel, Belgian Pale, etc. Food has always been better at Union and now the beer looks to be, as well. I'll have to get back to Trinity and see if they've improved lately.

Beer is without a doubt the best in RI. The food however is just plain awful. They'd be better off locking the kitchen door and having pizza delivered in. I've always hoped an even trade would get worked out with Union Station 2 blocks away, whose food is pretty damn fabulous, and can't brew a decent pint to save their lives.

I didn't expect too much based on some of the recent reviews. I didn't get a chance to go to Union Street to compare it to Trinity either, but I thought Trinity was pretty good. The atmosphere was different, almost hippy-like, I guess. They had 2 stouts on tap, and the Russian Imperial was really good. Fresh and very flavorful. Their red ale had a nice flavor as well. The honey brown was so-so and a little disappointing, but otherwise all of their beers were good. The food was ok, typical brewpub food. The tortilla chips tasted a bit stale, but my burger was pretty good. It was an easy to place to find for out of towners like myself, right off Rt 95.

I came here because Union was dead that nite. This place was even deader. Food is way better at Union Station. Beer is comparable. Trinity almost had a dive appearance about it. Bartender showed no enthusiasm for the beers. Unusual for a brewpub.

I'm a local and a long time Trinity fan. Lately they've been disappointing me. They don't update their beer menu in house often enough - they are ALWAYS out of what I want. Last time I went the beer has a SEVERE cidery off taste. I had enjoyed the same beer there a month before. Time to clean the lines, I guess.

I had a really good time here with friends after the International Beer Festival, back in November. Cool atmosphere, slightly rustic, nice downstairs section as well. There was even a bagpipers outfit that showed up and just started playing, the crowd seemed to go right along with them, lots-o-fun. This is the place to check out, when in Rhode Island. Try it, you'll enjoy it.

Beer - German Style. Very good, A. Would have bought a growler. Bar - great funky bar, with a wild mural of dead pop music stars in the main dining room. Long smoky bar. Relaxed, fun place. Interesting, laid back crowd. The world can use more places like this. Music - OK. Hard to hear in the dining room. Service - very good, almost rushed. Food - Sometimes good, other times lacking. Fries are soggy and boring, as was the burger. Overall c+

This was the last stop on a New England Brewpub tour that my friends and I took this week, and what a disappointment! The pub itself is dimly-lit, with some beautiful paraphanalia on the walls, and a nice view onto the fermentation tanks, but beyond atmosphere this place is struggling--BIG TIME. The beer was insipid: flavorless, watery swill. I struggled to drink a single pint, and we didn't even finish our sampler! To be fair, one of my friends thought the IPA was quite good, but the majority vote found it over-hopped and lacking a distinct flavor or aroma. The food is quite tasty--the nachos and the BBQ Bleu Pizza--and it was a welcome surprise after having had such a bad drinking experience. From the other reviews, it seems like this place has fluctuated in quality a lot over the years, so perhaps there's something positive on the horizon for Trinity. But for now, I'll drive the extra hundred miles to New Haven and drink at the Bru Rm. at BAR.

Much better now that Hops! is gone. Of course you are well aware of the fact that Hops was in business when I did that particular review of Trinity. I'm no fan of Hops, in fact I'm no surprised they folded in RI. But truth be told, on that particular day, my vistit to Hops was BETTER than Trinity. I like Trinity, but I find it to be an average to good brewpub, not a great one.

Reply to "Providence RI":
It was very sad for me to say that a visit to Hops! (which I find pathetic by the way), was better than Trinityon that visit, but the sad fact of the matter was, Hops! was better that day. That just goes to show you how far a slide Trinity has taken. This use to be a local haunt of mine, and when Ken Mussleman brewed there, the beers were fantastic. I've been to Trinity over the course of my time in RI well over 100 times, and sorry if it wounds your local pride, but it ain't that great of a brewpub. You really need to travel more, because as far as brewpubs go, Trinity is average at best. Sean Larkin does some style VERY well, but I find his skills lacking when he attempts other styles. Trinity suffers for this inconsistancy. Sure I can enjoy RI IPA and recently enjoyed a very nice Ofest last Fall, but I've been dissapointed far too many times at Trinity. Providene is a joke as a beer city, and if Trinity is the best you can do, you have my sympathy.

"Hops Restaurant Bar and Brewery seems to be the best Providence can offer a beer lover these days, and believe me, that isn't saying much."
Holy Christ, Hops is better than trinity? Now I've heard everything. Hell I bet I can piss a more drinkable fluid than anything that ever came out of a tap at Hops.
Just exactly what's pissed Sherman off I can't say, but if you're in Providence and want some consistently great beer then stop by Trinity. Start with what ever is on the hand pull and then go where ever you want. The bottom line is they brew great stuff, and typically the bigger the better. Yeah you won’t find linen table cloths, but it’s a pub for cryin’ out loud. It’s dark, local, and friendly.
And if you think this is just a bunch of shit from a biased local, then great, go straight to Hops. Ah damn now that I think about it Hops closed last year, guess your outta luck.

This almost gets a "great" rating for the beer, as the Imperial Stout and Scotch Ale were both excellent, above average for styles that are very competitive. But of the rest, the IPA was good only, the Pale, Kolsch and Lager just ok, and the Doppelbock was a serious misfire; sour and unpalatable. Food is typical pub grub--I had a very good sausage sandwich with quite decent fries. I personally liked the "dingy" atmosphere quite a lot, and the service was very prompt and efficient. I'll go back.
