My brother and I stopped in a couple of weekends ago on a hot day and each had a hefeweizen. It was very nicely balanced, true to style, perfectly refreshing. Also had a cup of the chowder, which was creamy and loaded with clams. They had some interesting beer styles (watermelon ale, blueberry wheat), but I wanted a classic and wasn't disappointed.

Nice beers! Good, hoppy IPA, plus nice selection of other beers (including a watermelon beer and a blueberry beer- neither of which I expeced to like, but enjoyed. Best Blueberry I've had). Server knew her stuff, and the food was great.

Visted this place while in Newport for training. They had 6 beers styles on tap Golden Ale, India Pale Ale, Blueberry Blonde, English Mild, Irish Red and Irish Stout. I tried three by far the best was the Mild English Ale - it was Light brown in color, rich malt and caramel flavors with chocolate and coffee overtones. Delicate bitterness and aroma. All of this combined with a dry finish make this a very refreshing beer. The Irish Red is an amber ale and had a much stronger hop aroma and taste. Finally the Blueberry Blonde is a glonden beer with not quite delicate blueberry flavor and aroma. Not the best friut infused beer I have tried but not the worst either. I had a hand made traditional pizza with fresh black olives and red a green pepers. It was excellent. All in all this is a pretty good place to try if you are in the Newport Area.

This was my second time to Coddington's, while I was again on vacation in the area. Was there a few years back. Made a specific plan to go stop there on my most recent trip, especially since it is the only brewpub in the whole region. Their blueberry ale is unique and sweet (they even drop a few fresh berries into the pint glass), and the best/most interesting thing they had on tap. I was a little disappointed the watermelon ale was not available yet. The bartender said it comes out only in August and is a big seller. Typically brewpub food, but good nonetheless. Their nacho platter was stacked! It is definately worth the stop here if you are in the Newport area...take a breather from shopping. Also, Newport and Greenvale wineries are 5 minutes away, if you are so inclined to mix your drinks for an interesting afternoon.

first impression was that this BP was a yuppie hangout with crap at high prices...wow really good beer and the waitress actually took an interest in the fact that we were there on vacation and were trying as many BPs as possible in one week...must stop on way to Newport

Not a bad place, no particular brew jumped out at me during my visit but, the beer and food were good. Nice, relaxing New England atmosphere as well. Being a Yankee fan, I got a kick out of seeing Yankee memorabilia, on the walls, instead of the Red Sox. I had a blueberry wheat beer with blueberries floating in it while I was here, that was interesting. This is a good place to do lunch and a beer, if you are in the area.

six or so beer options, none out of the ordinary. Same with the quality. If I am passing thru Newport, I will stop here, but not worth much of a detour.

Porter was very good, IPA was tasty (more British in style than American), food is basic pub fare.

IPA was just O.K. Small beer selection favored esoteric, fruity brews. Pizza was mundane -- the sauce was kind of sweet. Bartender was friendly and attentive. Still, not the most distinctive of brewpubs.

The food is excellent, The IPA is very good as is the porter. Where else can you get a pint of good beer for $2.75?

This was one of our favorite pubs among the many we visited on a two-week trip through New England. Only tried two beers... the Hefeweizen was superb and my girlfriend thought the Blueberry Blond was great (she calls fruit beers "ovarian" beers, as she claims you need ovaries to really appreciate them). A great atmosphere, great food (try the bonleless chicken wings), and great service. Highly recommend a stop if you're in the area.

Best brewpub in RI, hands down. Really nice atmosphere, exceptional food(sea food is fantastic), and great beer. Really nice selection, their IPA is very well done, more in the British vien, nice balace of malt and hops. The Blueberry Cream ale is always a treat, an old favorite. Really enjoyed the porter as well. Coddington is a great brewpub for a beer lover, you'll never come away dissapointed. I've traveled to over 100 brewpubs across the county, and in a state like RI, really not know as a "beer" state like say Oregon, or Pennsylvania, its a gem. Seek it out if your going to be in the Newport area.

The food was good but the two beers I tried, the English Mild and the India Pale Ale (IPA) didn't have any taste at all. They seemed flat.

Nice atmosphere, very good beer and nice selection of styles ranging from a blueberry cream ale to a porter to a barleywine. Extensive menu with a nice sea food selection as well. Very nice brewpub, best in Rhode Island.

Not enough variety in styles! Both a Raspberry and Blueberry Cream Ale... although both are quite tasty. However, the Ocktoberfest is probably the best I have ever had. Food is fantastic... gotta have the Clam Chowder!

Does any brewpub with only six selections need BOTH a blueberry AND a raspberry cream ale? The oatmeal stout I tried was average.

My visit was on a rainy December Monday evening so it was not crowded as others have complained. I found the beer options fine. I found the food options really extensive. Not only did they have the obligatory brewpub "wierd" concoctions but they had many "normal" bar sandwiches and family restaurant type meals. I often find it difficult to feed the children at a brewbub but this one gave me more options. The restaurant area was a fair size and the generously sized bar/smoking area was partially separated from the main restaurant. The bar exits through the reataurant so we did not have to deal with the smokers if we didn't want to. I especially liked the photos of Newport from the 50s/60s which dotted the walls on the way to the generous, clean restaurants. The service was fine, the food was great, as was the beer. I'd definitely go back but probably not on the way home from the beach. The place is nice and probably would really be crowded then plus, I prefer to do my beach drinking on the beach or on a deck. Highly recomended by the McGoldrick family.

Usually overcrowded, long waits to get seated, (hint, sit at the bar and eat there). Nice menu, but inconsistant food quality, attentive waitstaff, and an average beer selection.
