This place is huge. We sat in the billards room and enjoyed great service even though the staff member was over worked. She had too many tables and demanding customers. The Mile HIPA was excellent. The hummus platter was great. The pot roast was not very tender. After the Rockies game ended, things really got out of control, the place had to have violated fire codes it was so full. We left but enjoyed our visit.

Food was great and service was great. I found myself a little underwhelmed with the beers -this place is well-regarded with the locals so it was high on our list to visit- They have about 10 beers on tap when we arrived and we tried all of them.
I was really looking forward to the Railyard Red which I had heard so much about, but I found it a little thin and mostly boring.
I think I was expecting a greater number of really excellent beers. The beers they did have were basically good and true to type, however the only really notable ones to me were the Chili Beer (difficult to brew without tasting absolutely horrible) and the B3K Schwarz Bier.
Wynkoop is fefinately worth a stop- try to hit it for lunch for a beer sampler, hummus plate, and the Gorgonzola Ale Soup.

I visited this brewpub on 7/15/08 and had the following beers; Light Rail Ale 4.2%, Wixa Weiss Beer 5.5%, Two Guns Pilsner 5.6%, Railyard Ale 5.2%, Monkey’s Fist IPA 5.7%, St. Charles ESB 4.5%, Cascade Cream Ale 6.5%, B3K Schwarz Beer, 5.3%, Sage Brush Stout 5.1%, Silver Back Porter 7.2% and Patty’s Chili Beer. Normally I am not a fan of chili beers but this one was very good. It had the flavor but not the heat. I just don’t care to drink a beer that burns, which is the normal fair for chili beers. What can one say about the headquarters for the Beer Drinker of the Year award? If I ever make it to the GABF I will be certain to stop in here.

Dinner downstairs -- service was great! Drinks upstairs -- understaffed, one server for the whole area (bar and pool tables). Worth the trip....

I LOVED THIS PLACE. GREAT BUILDING WITH 30+ POOL TABLES UPSTAIRS. MANY DARK STYLES TO CHOOSE FROM. CHILE BEER WITH A MEDAL IN A RECENT COMPETITION. I DON'T THINK A BREWPUB WITH "LOUSY" BEER WOULD SURVIVE IN THIS TOWN VERY LONG.

The hummus was outstanding - spicy and piquant. It came with this delicious sun-dried tomato relish and tapenade and a head of roasted garlic. An excellent light dish to go with the beers which, obviously, were unmemorable. Sat outside on Wynkoop watching people heading to the Rockies game which was delightful. The bar inside was lively. Just wish the beer was more of what I was expecting.

I visited Denver for two nights in July 2007 and was drawn to Wynkoop's because of the "awesome" rating. I think that is a bit of a stretch. I had a wheat ale and the ESB, both OK after a long drive but somewhat lacking in flavor and body. My granddaughter was even disappointed in the root beer. However, I ordered the rainbow trout and was delighted--huge portion of fish, tasty sides. I found the beer at Bull and Bush the following night superior. Sorry. I learned at B&B that Wynkoop's is owned by the mayor of Denver. Never mix politics with religion or beermaking.

$1 per sampler, no set beers that you get, you just pick. they are each 8oz.
Somergrass Citrus ale - Light, Crisp, easy. a hint of honey in the finish. hardly any detectable nose.
Wixa Weiss - Cloudy, crips finish. Big banana flavor and in the nose as well, a bit too dry in the finish with very little clove. overall very tasty.
Cascade Cream Ale - Cask Conditioned - smooth, clean, light with just the right amount of hops to be bitter, yet not approach a pale ale. Very creamy in the mouth.
RailYard Ale - make sure you capitalize the "Y" otherwise they get upset. amber style ale that strikes a nice balance between malt and hops. because of the low carbonation, i would swear it was on cask. this is similar to Fat tire, but a bit more mellow and easy to drink with a hint of biscuit in the finish
St. Charles ESB - Cask conditioned - smooth, yet perfectly bitter with a slight nutty background. it had the expected low level of carbonation with a touch of caramel in the finish
Sagebrush Stout - Black as night, oatmeal colored head that clings to the glass. Big roasted nose and flavor, but smooth and not astringent. just a bit of chocolate and coffee round this beer out nicely. this was the perfect desert after my:
Gumbo - really big bowl filled with chunks of andouille sausage, shrimp, chicken and okra. this had just enough spicyness to make my nose run and little beads of sweat break out. More of a glisten really. The big chunk of cornbread on top of the bowl was the perfect addition to this excellent meal. Emerill would be proud!
Who would have known the sheriff was a thespian?
I just wish I lived closer!

I went to Wynkoop with my wife and in-laws who are all non-drinkers. We all had a wonderful experience. The food was great (the BLAT, the bangers and mash, ruben, and hummas platter).
They have three cask ales soyou have a nice selection if you like cask ales. I got the brown cask ale and it was served at the correct temperature and the carbonation was just like I got in pubs in the U.K. There was a little fusel alcohol in the flavor, but overall it was very good. I had the Tripple as well. I have had dozens of tripples and this was one of the best I have tried. My family all enjoyed the root beer made there.
Service was very fast and they kept checking back to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, this was a great experience.

One of the top two or three pubs I’ve visited, maybe even the best. That says a lot. The eleven available beers were uniformly excellent. Three were on hand pump including an ESB and an IPA. Both were superb. Food was top quality both nights we visited. Try the elk if it's available. Service was on a par with any five-star restaurant. Upstairs is a large room with pool tables and a second bar. We didn’t stay long but it looked like a great place to spend some time, especially for younger singles. The owner is the mayor of Denver and he is said to hang out in the pool room at times. This place is worth a special trip.

This place has a great location, great food and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. The beers, at least for me, are nothing special. I have been twice during the GABF, and both times the guest beers they served were better then their own beers. Maybe I hit them at a bad time.

Always a fun trip to take the light rail to Union Station, stop in for food and a drink. The Wixa Weiss is excellent on a hot day, the Sagebrush Stout on a cold one and the IPA is good anytime. Have a drink or two and then walk over to the Tattered Cover or Coors Field.

I visited Wynkoop again (see my review for May 2003) while in Denver for ... well, you know ... a certain festival. Even though the founder is now the current mayor of Denver, Wynkoop still provides adventurious beer drinkers with a wide selection of uniques brews (though not as unique for folks from the Buckeye State, apparently.) Here is what I tasted: Railyard Ale (their staple), Imperial IPA, a porter (Name?) and B3K schwartzbier (how many BPs offer black lagers?) and a Brown Ale called "Flying Artillery." Too bad those guys from Ohio did'nt enjoy it - but everyone has his or her own likes. Question: other than Great Lakes BC - does Ohio have any decent microbrews? Killian's does not count (Coors).

An absolute joke. This joint should be called WynPoop. In a state and city with some of the greatest beers in America, I wound up here. The beers were very thin, lifeless and without any amount of character, malt nor hops. What a shame. Don't waste your time here, see if Great Divide or Breckinridge is open, or go to the Falling Rock Beer Bar. They even offered me a damn beer brewed with thyme or oregano. What???

How does this place have such a good pubcrawler rating? The beers are weak and flavorless. This place gives good brewpubs and craft breweries a bad name. I wouldn't use Wynkoop's beer to rinse my glass from Great Divide. I have an idea, use some hops in your beers. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO BREW BOLD FLAVORFUL BEERS.

my barmaid was a beer guru. i sampled all 12 beers on tap. she knew all about each, from brewing process to subtle flavors. all very good but 2 intresting ones to note. pattys chili. this beer is berewed with chili peppers! odd. and a gruit very dark and brewed with no hops at all. again odd. i really enjoyed "cap'n billy flying brigade" or something odd like that, it was very good. and location. just a stones throw from coors field. screw coors! wyncoop all the way!

Location is good being in LoDo. Beer selection is great, they make about 10 or so beers of their own. The problem is, I tried about six of them and only found one that was pleasing, their milk stout. The IPA (something to do with a monekey) I found to be tasteless and not hoppy at all. Their nomral stout was not nearly as good as their milk with a harsh after taste. Turns out the only beers ordered between four of us were Milk Stouts. The food was good, the Jumbalya a huge success. Service could have been better, but it could have been that we were the first in the restaurant.

My friend Becky highly recommended we go here, as she's been a few times in the past already. I tried four brews on tap: the IPA had little body with a citrus taste and not hoppy at all; the Amber also lacked body with a tanted taste; Porter was dark, sweet and thin bodied; the Stout wins my vote with excellent body and taste.

Stopped by the 'Koop' on Election Night for a few pints and like previous visits, was not disappointed. I went for their three cask offerings; the Imperial IPA, the St. Charles ESB, and the "Brewmasters Special" (Tuesdays only) Bitter. All were superb and representative of what I'd consider "state of the art" brewing. I didn't sample any of the kitchen's output on this visit, but a glance at the menu revealed they're still putting out solid fare. Don't miss it!

Was in town for the Beer Festival last week and decided to try Wynkoops. To say the least we were disappointed with the quality of the beer. Ordered the IPA... no taste, seemed to be watered down. Beautiful building though....

While in town for the Great American Beer Festival I decided to give Wynkoop another try. Unfortunately, there was not much of an improvement over my last visit. I am beginning to think that this establishment relies on the "mystique" of its past success as a brewpub to keep people coming through the door. The high volume of customers, I believe, has lead to the brewing of beers that cater to a more middle of the road taste, simply going through the motions. I mean, when I order and Imperial I.P.A. I expect there to be some hops in it. The food, on the other hand, was very good. But, if I was in this for the food I wouldn't be on puncrawler.com.

Wynkoop is in a very cool turn-of-the-century building. Pretty good food with an excellen selection of beers. I had the sampler and then a few pints. All were pretty good. Very nice IPA. One of the better brewpubs in Denver.
