There were 11 beers on tap when we visited Thanksgiving week. The Sock Knocker, Idiot and Black Sails (black) IPAs were very good. We also had the Holly Daze and Blue Bridge Coffee stouts--decent beers, We tasted the Milk stout and Stupid stouts, also very good beers. None of the others were very appealing since it was winter, and they were all much lighter varieties (golden, wit, red, and brown). The food was very good. This is a nice place to just hang out.

This place is always a must-stop for me on the rare occassions I get to San Diego. In fact I usually seem to end up in there almost every day on my trips.
They usually seem to have about a half dozen of their own brews on tap, plus 2-3 guest taps. By far my favorite of the bunch is the Island IPA, followed by one of their other IPA offerings (can't remember the name). Very hoppy without being too overpowering like some I've tasted, smooth and easy to drink.
All of the food offerings I've tried there have been good, and the service is usually pretty good as well. It's got a nice laid-back, casual ambience which is very relaxing.
Another thing on the plus side, it's only about a 2 minute walk from the ferry that goes across to San Diego. No need to run the radar traps on the Coronado bridge or try to find parking in Coronado (although they have a very small lot in the back).
Only downside to this place is their 3 pint limit. However, there's a small convenience store next door that sells a lot of their products in bottles, or you can get a growler too.

Since our visit was only for some beer and a light snack, our food rating was by no means exhaustive. Their beer offerings were impressive, including two IPAs. Idiot IPA came in at 8.5% abv, a fine example. Their Nutter Brown was well hopped and maltier than most browns. The Islandweizen Hefe was well styled, and appeared to be the most popular among the clientele. CBC had a good crowd even in early afternoon.
Be aware that parking can be an issue, as Coronado Island is a popular destination! Traffic can get heavy, especially when folks are exiting the naval base after work. However, the myriad parking meters are free Sundays. (CBC probably should be listed in "San Diego" area of Pubcrawler, even though the island is a separate jurisdiction: it didn't show up on our S.D. list, and we just lucked into it)

A real pub with excellent beers Of course, not to have the three or four IPA's on tap removes Brownie points. Especially when the American IPA I had was flowing with citreous nose of those delightful hops and they had just made what they said was an Imperial or was it that better named double IPA? - BUT - not yet ready!! OK the Chili bowel made up for the lack of additional IPA's . I lie.
The brothers Chapman started this place with too many partners. By judicial use of buy outs, hit men and less desirable other methods - (I invented some of this as I lost my notes - must have been drinking) they have the now a delightfully calm place to hang out and put the world to rights. I was there for early lunch and I suspect that it gets hopping in the evenings. It's a meet people place and if I were on the island would look no futher. Having lost my notes, all I can say - charming server at the bar, met a regular who sent me to another brewery and lo and behold, later he rolled in. I will update when I find those blessed notes.

This is a nice pub. I had the Islander IPA and 4 Brothers Pale Ale. My wife had a Golden because the hefeweizen was OUT. All the beers were very good, but the 4 Brothers was outstanding. It was unfiltered, hoppy and everything I expect from a West Coast American Pale. I may have been extra thirsty, but the Islander IPA was really easy-drinking with a great hop aroma. Given that it's over 7% ABV, I can see why there's a three pint limit.
The food was good, but not as good as the beer. The tuna melt was made with tuna salad, which was odd, but still tasty. The cole slaw (okay, I'm a cole slaw fanatic) could have marinated longer, but it was still okay.
If you go with a wine drinker, try by all means to get them to have a beer instead. The house wine is called Camelot, and it kinda makes you wonder what part the camel played in its production.

Nice short ferry ride from San Diego mainland. Prices were not that bad considering the cost to live on this little "island". Must stop! Also check out the other bars on main street.

The Idiot IPA is awesome, right up there with some of Stone's hopped up brews. The atmosphere is great with open air, under roof dining and fireplace blazing on cool nights. As for the three pint limit - you'll thank them as you wave to the motorcycle (BMW) police at the bridge.

Stopped in to check this place out and had an IPA and a Pale Ale. I thought the service was good and the beers were very good. I have been in over 100 brewpubs in my travels and have never seen the 3 beer limit before but I guess I can see their point. I did notice a food runner eating fries off of customer's plates before they went out to the tables. I know this sort of thing happens in restaurants but I've never seen it so obvious in a kitchen that is exposed and right behind the bar. I'll stop in again for good beers but probably won't order something off the menu. I hope they don't stick their fingers in the beers...

Three pint limit is still in effect. Strange rule for a brewpub. As a result I limited myself to 2 pints so as not to be "cutoff". Had the "hefe" and the brown. The hefe was a little odd and the hoppiest hefe I have experienced. Not what I was looking for but not terrible either. The brown on the other hand was quite decent and true to form. The place itself is very interesting and would be a good drinking atmosphere if one was allowed to do so. Maybe it's me but stopping at 3 pints is like kissing your sister and not necessarily a good looking sister.

They were out of the IPA which I was told was their best beer. I tried the Pale and it was just OK. Did small samples of the Hefe and Red, both OK. I really enjoyed the Porter. Food was good. Worth a stop if you are in the area. Easy to find.

Well worth seeking out when in San Diego especially now that travel from the city to Coronado on the Bay Bridge is free. Excellent beers and selection. My favorite was the IPA. Kind of a strange house rule though that they will only serve each person the equivalent of 3 pints or 3 glasses of wine. They also do not offer a sampler set but instead charge 1.50 for each 4 ounce glass and of course these count toward the 3 pint total. Do not go there expecting to get drunk. Go for lunch or dinner, not happy hour.

I have visited this brewery several times and have never walked away disappointed. A place you definitely need to go if in the San Diego area. The beers are excellent. My favorite is the Islandwiezen. The food is always good. Don't miss out on visiting this brewery.

Pint glasses are not well made, logo is put on with a transfer tatoo. Only thing going for them is location, within walking distance of harbor.

While in San Diego on business, I was searching out beer establishments that I'd seen on the internet and wanted to try this one. In a word, disappointed, is all that I can say. A sampler isn't officially offered, but after some chatting with our waitress we finally got her to throw something together. Apparently the beer sampler platter was taken off of the menu because of customers wasting the beer. It was my arguement to our waitress that if I am paying for the beer I wish to sample, it's not really a waste. She was less then friendly to begin with. The beers that I sampled were the 4 Brother's Pale Ale, Island Pale Ale (IPA), Pt. Loma Porter, and a guest beer from Bear Republic Brewing called Hop Rod Rye. It is a good thing that the guest beer was offered, because that was the best on the menu.
The nicest part about the brewpub was the atmosphere and location, but those alone are not enough to bring me back for a return trip.

Of everywhere we went in San Diego, this was my favortie. Great atmosphere- especially the patio seating! Food was fantastic, I had a crab and shrimp melt with provolone, it was outstanding. We sampled each of the 8 beers they had on tap and were quite impressed. Coronado is always worth a stop, and so is the brewing company.

The location is excellent, and that makes it worth the trip. I sampled the Islandwiezen, the porter and the seasonal Octoberfest. The Islandwiezen was so-so. wheat beers are one of my favorite, and this one did not measure up with the best in the category. Was it bad, no. Was it exceptional, no. The porter was quite good, and the Octoberfest was tasty too. Decent service, though the food was average. I had the pizza, and it wasn't anything special. But the beer is worth a trip if you are in the area, so I would go back. One other note, only 5 beers were available when I was there, I was hoping for more variety.

We really enjoyed this place. It's more of a restaurant with a family atmosphere. We had a good appetizer, and the beer sampler which featured 4 beers: I think the Outlet Stout was the best, followed by the Mermaid's Red Ale, Double IPA, and the Island Pale Ale. All were good brews. Coronado has a cool logo too! 08/20/03 6pm

I had been looking forward to visiting for some time and finally managed to visit recently. What a disppointment! The brewpub is active and appealing inside, and for those many fine days in Coronado outside seating also is available. On the day of my visit nine beers were poured, eight of which were made by Coronado. Those included a golden ale, weizen, bock, pale ale, IPA, red ale, and porter. All were rather poor and although I can't identify precisely how, all had a maddening similarity in taste. I've encountered that situation before in my brewpub adventures and it always represents failure. When your golden ale, porter, and IPA taste similar you know something is very wrong in the brewhouse. The best beer offered BY FAR was Stone's Arrogant Bastard, and I was so thankful they had it. I did not sample the food, but I can report that a woman seated next to me returned a pasta dish saying that it "tasted awful". I guess that sums it up for Coronado Brewing. There are so many better options in the saturated San Diego brewpub market...

8 beers on tap when I visited on 7/14. The golden and hefe are bland, but the beers get much better as the gravity increased. The food was a major dissapointment: I love GB Garlic Fries - these were horrible; caesar salad is supposed to use the tasty inner leaves, not the coarse, bitter outer leaves. I recommend you have dinner at the mexican a few doors down, then stop in here for a few beers. Huge patio, but you can't smoke on it anywhere.

7 of the 9 beers were sampled were excellent. The blonde was ok at best and the wheat was not very "wheaty." The pale ale, red and IPA were all award worthy and the food and service was outstanding. I love this place!
