Best place to get a Guinness in Orange County. They go through the barrels so quickly that it always tastes fresh. People whine because they serve mostly imported beer, and thankfully none of that piss water people call beer (aka Bud Light). They actually take the time to poor their Guinness correctly and even draw the shamrock in the head of the beer. They take pride in their Guinness which is always greatly appreciated. The Irish wings are great, the fries are delicious, and the fish and chippers are good too. Whenever I come home to visit for a weekend my friends and I always kick off a night of debauchery with a few pints and some great Irish comestibles at Muldoon's. Oh and the live music is great too. No rap, hip hop, or techno. I am only 23 and I think it's the best bar in Newport.

I've been to Muldoon's probably 50 times. It's my favorite bar in Orange County. Why? Mainly for the "intangibles". The atmosphere is great - warm, cozy, friendly. Good setup, great bands, just an all-around fun place to be on a Friday night or Sunday afternoon.
Beer - small selection, but they have all the required Irish brews.
Food - surprisingly good for a bar. Try the sweet potato fries and the irish stew.
Service - depends. Bartenders are awesome. Hardworking, efficient, gracious, and attentive. Servers however tend to be rushed, annoyed, curt. Probably because of the packed crowds.
Overall - again, it's the intangibles that makes this place great. Set aside your expectations of an "authentic" Irish experience. And as for "phony", what do you expect, it's in the middle of Newport Beach! It's just a nice, friendly and cozy place situated smack in the heart of the OC.

My family and I went to Muldoon's for the first time in April. This was a group of 12, most of whom are extremely finicky eaters. This was the FIRST time I can remember that there was not a single complaint of cold food, something not ordered, or something not served as ordered, and we range in age from 14 up to 70, most in our 40's! We will be going back next week for my daughter's high school graduation, this time as a group of 19!!!

My husband and I go to Muldoon's every year around Christmas/New Years when we visit Newport Beach. The food is always great and the atmosphere is very cozy. We aren't beer drinkers, so I can't comment on that. One year on New Year's Eve there was a live Irish band playing. The whole evening was very enjoyable.

I'd have to agree with the impressions of JC from DC.
My college alumni group got together for Hapy Hour on Thursady night. Place was packed; there were perhaps 25 of us and 125+ other folks there. Exceedingly noisy and cramped.
Had a big Harp to go along with my corned beef. The server was so frazzled that I didn't ask what other flavors were available.
The palm trees outside are real, it's the forced Irishness of Muldoon's that is phony as a three dollar bill.
Worth a return visit? No, there are better places in town.

This place is about as Irish as the Palm trees outside. Decent, but not great selection. They do pour a decent black and tan, but not much else. Our server (and I'm being generous here) knew about as much about beer as a deadman. Barely able to sell me a cold pint on a hot day. Is everything in Orange County this phony?

Food was tasty, had broken glass in it. If you like ales from the UK, this is the place, selection low of other beers. they pour a great black and tan!
