We were greeted by a very friendly bartender who explained to us that this place has been purchased by Gordon Biersch. That settled our initial confusion as we were expecting to find a GB at this address (it's on the GB website). If I remember correctly, the agreement they made was to keep the Rock Bottom name and marketing paraphernalia until the lease is up (which may be as soon as 1/2007 so if you visit after 1/2007 you may find a Gordon Beirsch in it's place). For the time being, the brewer must be Rock Bottom's because he's making IPA, and several other ale styles, better quality than typical Rock Bottom, but obviously not GB-lagers.

Grant was our waiter while we came into town for a business trip - he was awesome, and kept coming back to see him. Please let him know that Howard and Dani from connecticut, really enjoyed having him wait on us, and that we would love to come back for a visit. Thank you

Rock Bottom doesn't francise - rather, the Atlanta and Charlotte units are separate from the larger company of the same name as they were part of a division of assets that took place when Rock Bottom went private several years ago. Big River of Chattanooga was a partner in a particular joint venture created when Rock Bottom was still public, and to resolve ownership issues that allowed Rock Bottom to cease being a public company, Big River walked away with the two locations as part of the settlement. Big River is now called the Gordon Biersch Group and is based in Chattanooga. It should not be confused with the Gordon Biersch Brewery, which produces the bottled beer of the same name and divested the brewpub group (to Big River) to comply with manufacturer-retailer (3-tier) legalities. As for the quality or styles of beer, since Rock Bottom has no control over the two locations, Big River is likely under no obligation to brew to company lines or standards, and if you go to the Rock Bottom website, no mention is made of the aforementioned units. The relationship seems a bit icy at best.

I never could figure out why this Rock Bottom was so much worse that the others I have visited in Denver and Minneapolis. I finally found out (at the GABF) that it is because this is not a "company" restaurant but a franchise. The others have absolutely the best beer around. Several cask conditioned selections and specials. For those who thought this one had good beer, you need to get to some better brewpubs. Hope this place wakes up and start brewing like they should.

This Rock Bottom is good. The Sweet Magnolia, a brown ale, is true to style. My favorite here is the stout. It has a great balance between roasty bitterness and creamy sweetness. The pizzas are always good, especially the barbequed chicken. I wish that they would experiment more with beer styles.

I know it's a chain, but the service and food were good, and it had a warm atompshere. IPA was my favorite, but I did the sampler and all were good beers. Food was tasty and well prepared.

I was in Atlanta two nights and went here both nights for dinner. I had their 6 beer sampler and preferred the darker beers (IPA, brown ale, and stout). The IPA was quite good but could have been a little stronger in terms of both hoppiness and punch, although perhaps the punch part is limited by liquor laws in Georgia. The brown ale was nice and smooth and the stout was good if you like stouts. Food was outstanding. I had the crab stuffed chicken one night and the smoked chicken enchiladas the other. I tried chasing the enchiladas with the bread pudding with ice cream and rum-raisin sauce, but had to say "Uncle" half way through. It was good, but huge.

Rock Bottom has a good location (in Buckhead on main drag)... not far from Fado (half mile walk)... it is also next door to a big many story chain hotel.
I was there on this past Saturday pre dinner time. Tried the pale ale... two glasses... way too much negative after-taste... As you will notice from their literature, they don't win awards for their Pale Ale...
Their interior was quite dark... some lights would have helped in the bar area...
The menu offered seemingly no non meat or healthier/low calorie choices...
Give it a spin... and see what your take is on it.

This was my second time here. The brewmaster recognized me from my last visit. He said he uses a charcoal filter for the water. He said the big seller in this part of the South was a light lager. I had the stout. It was great! This brewpub is not to be missed even if you have a one night stay in Atlanta.

I have been to the Rock Bottom in La Jolla, the one in the Gaslamp district in San Diego and this one in Atlanta. I love the place! The beer is usually very good. The cask conditioned pale ale and stout's are my favorites very creamy. The food complements the brew. And the place is happening, lots of people. Try it and then walk over to John Harvards in the heart of Buckhead. If you're brewpub person then these two places are all you need to be aware of!

This is one of my favorite beer drinking establishments in Atlanta. The atmosphere is great and the beer is awesome. Very crowded on weekend nights so be prepared to talk loudly (but you will probably be so busy enjoying the beer that you won't have time to talk very much anyway). If they have a cask conditioned ale available, try one and you will be in for a real beer drinking treat! Cheers!

I was suprised by this place. When hurricane Floyd ruined our vacation in SC, we headed to Atlanta. Just ran into this place by accident. The stout is not that good but the IPA (although I agree needs more hops) was good and the Brown Ale was very good. It was heavier than the stout in my opinion(as well as the opinion of the 3 other stout drinkers in my party). I would go back.

Of all the brewpubs I've seen, and there are plenty I've seen, Rock Bottom consistently impresses my mind and my tastebuds. The beer is fantastic and the service and food are among the best in Atlanta. Rock Bottom is where I take all my first dates, too - if they don't like it, NEXT! Hope to see you there.

Iron Horse Stout will put some hair on your chest! It was perfect with my "Drunken Ribeye" steak -- cute waitresses and very professional crowd (there was a party in one area that looked well planned by the staff). Great place!

I loved the Sweet Magnolia Ale - no wonder it has won so many awards! It was great to play pool for free while they prepared our lunch. We definitely will return when we are in Atlanta again!
