George & Harry's was nearby at the corner of Temple and Grove. Great beer, but closed in the 70's when Yale was planning to build a new residential college there. Instead some townhouses got built. Naples was convenient to Silliman, but Yorkside had better food.

Ah Naples...what will all the young Yale freshmen do without you? 'Twas a good run while it lasted. RIP.

Used to be George & Harry's in the 1960s. I once had lunch at a table next to Sigourney Weaver here when she was studying at Yale Drama. Same juke box, carved tables, atmosphere, stained glass windows. Probably the same songs still in the box (Time Won't Let Me, Girl From Ipana Toothpaste, etc). Drug raids up and down the street w/police buses in the late 60s--same era while Jim Morrison & the Doors were in town. Lots of memories. Hope someone restores this place to its Medieval English pub atmosphere.

Circa 1987-1992 Naples was the bomb. Playing quarters and submarine on Thursday nights was the pre-weekend warm up. Then...they lost their liquor license. Haven't been back since Fall 1993- a Yalie.

Don't go out of your way. The newcastle on tap was the only worthwhile choice, a bit flat at that. The pizza was below par for the New Haven area. The restroom looked like a bomb had been detonnated, all in all a dive.

The reason to go to Naples is not the beer, but the initial carved tables, out-of-date jukebox and pizza by the slice. Also, late at night the drunk girls dancing on (falling off of) the tables. There are better places to get pizza (Sallie's, Peppie's), but no better place to get a beer, a couple slices, and write your novel in a booth.

This place is the essential college hangout yet it attracts an interesting mix of people. With a little time the wonderful staff will accomodate any need you may have. Food at night is only pizza, but darn good. The lunch and dinner menu is varied and tasty.
