Wasn't sad to see this place go. Free enterprise dictates that only the strong survive. Rob just couldn't get the silver spoon out of his mouth long enough to make an effort at the business. Better to let the real brewpubs enjoy the rewards.

Was disappointed to see a CLOSED sign on the door with a side note that they will be reopening under new owners.

Buy the beer and take it home. Sorry guys, but your place is a dump. This place resembles the local "dive" bar that serve Natural Light and Hamms on tap. Great beer, but I can't sit in there and drink it.

Wow! Things definitely change! Been coming here for years and have watched the place gradually go down hill. You can't count on getting a good beer here anymore. My advice is to request a sample before ordering a full glass. The only thing that keeps me coming back is some of the ole regulars I see on occasion and the good memories the place brings to mind of the way it once was. This place is dying (literally) for new ownership. Hopefully someone who will take pride in the place and care about the quality of the products as well as the employees, furniture, clientele, marketing, etc. If you should happen to see an owner encourage them to bring it back to the way it used to be, which was excellent!

Just an update: Jan 20, 2004
Happy to report Robert Thomas is alive & well. They currently are offering three brews on tap: the porter, stout, & I think the par 5 pale ale. Same ownership as always, however, they are going to try to market it again in the spring. No plans to close at this date. --

This place is in a class all it's own. It's like a garage brewpub. Lack of pride in the establishment by owner Rob is evident. Broken furniture, TV with no reception, bathrooms with no soap, etc. etc. The beers good, I'd just recommend getting a six and drinking it at home.

Apparently the brewery is for sale for $350,000- that's the equipment and the labels/recipes/etc. The building itself is leased. So anyway, they've scaled back somewhat since their future is indefinite. They only had three beers on tap when I was there, that's the stout, amber and roffey's lancaster pale. They also were offering the porter in bottles. They had a limited food menu but I didn't have anything to eat. They were hoping to know more in the next couple weeks about what was going on....

I love this place! The kings Cross Porter is the best around and is usually what I drink when I am there(which is quite often). Am waiting patiently for them to brew the IPA again, which was very good. It is a very comfortable and friendly place to sit and enjoy a few good brews. Plus I really enjoy going to a place "where everybody knows your name". The owners aren't around much anymore and I do miss that.

Surprised to see the ratings from PA's Russ on 4-23. I did not try the porter but the 2 pale ales they had were good. Nothing lame in my opinion. The bar maid, Rebecca, was very friendly and cute. Enjoyed talking to the local patrons, who seem to be very knowledgable about beer.

I was disappointed in the beers. I have had Roffy in the past, and enjoyed them, but RT does not compare. The beers from RT were lame. None really stood out, and the porter was definately NOT a robust porter. I was way underwhelmed.

Ok I'm a bit biased because I'm a member but who wouldn't want to be a member when you get $1 off every single pint. Great beers, lots of regulars, lots of flavor!

Beer has gotten better since addition of Roffey's line. I've always loved the Lake Affect Stout, now it's available close by, 28th and Patterson. Friendly crowd, very, very casual setting. Friendly Bartenders. If you like beer and live less than 10 miles away, you should join the mug club on your first visit. Mug club members get $2 beers, a personal mug and invites to special events. If you are going to drink the higher content beers, better plan on a taxi or a ride home. These go down really easy with the good conversation and salty popcorn.

The porter has outstanding arona, good mouth feel,a good roasty chacolate flavor and a very clean finish. I would rate this as one of the best porters in MI. The IPA is just what an IPA drinker would like. The Canaidian lager was so much like Molsen you would have to have the to at the same time to tell them apart. The beer and the people are absolutly outstanding. This is a great place to visit I felt like a regular on my firt time.

The quality of their beer is good but the selection is poor. Kings Cross Porter is very good as well as their Amber.

Only one rancid beer on tap. It was some strange fruit flavored crap. Upon leaving, I saw a big fruit falvored pile of vomit in the parkig lot.

Like the porter, hate everything else. It's like drinking in somebody's parents basement. Went on dime beer night. I don't know if they ever did that again, but it was a great idea. Kind of out of the way though, call first.
