A happening place last week before the Canadiens' first preseason game (the Bell Center is just a couple of blocks away.) An interesting selection of beers--no sampler flight on the menu, but the helpful bartenter made one for me. I thought the beers were good, if a bit tame.

My second visit to Montreal’s Mondiale de le Biere Festival provided me another chance to sample the well-crafted British ales served here. A short ten-minute walk from Gare Windsor, the festival’s venue, brought me to this multi-leveled brewpub.
Brutopia consists of the mandatory front terrace, a small dining area that has several tables, a small corner stage for entertainment and a few windows overlooking Crescent Street; in the back is a small bar (most of the bars in Montreal seem to be small) that seats about fifteen people.
But the beers are very good, very fresh and frequently rotated; my choices during this visit: IPA, a Nut Brown and the seasonal, Scotch Ale. Brutopia also offered Imperial Stout, but I tried it at the festival. Also available on the food menu is an eclectic variety of international dishes (I recommend the Cuban Sandwich with an order of Belgian frites – I did say “international”).
Brutopia has excellent service, a relaxing environment, a reasonable Happy Hour ($3.95 pints) and is surely worth a stop if in Montreal – be it for the Mondiale de le Biere or anything else. --

I'm from the Springfield, Massachusetts area and I had the best time when I walked through the doors of Brutopia. The owners/managers we're always attentitive and I am going back there in a week to go see them again and party more on St. Catherine's Street, but my first stop will be at Brutopia. Thanks again

Stopped in while at Mondiale. Enjoyed a pleasant lunch on the back terrace on a beautiful day. Lots of great appetizers and a nice range of beers. Everyone got to try all that they had. The atmosphere of the inside is old, but comfortable. Like an old cafe in NYC. The artisitic board lists all the selections with flair. Easy to find and well worth the visit.

The weather was snow with -17F temp. when I came through the front door of this cozy place. Friendly people and a good well filtered Brown Ale made this stop in the trendy part of Montreal a good choice.

Brutopia had a nice selection of 9 beers brewed on the premises plus another handful of local micros. I found most of the beers to be nice examples of their style. The kitchen was closed the night I was in, so no comment on the food.

This place is awesome...It is where all my friends and I meet when we happen to be in Montreal...Also of course Montreal is not a family friendly city this bar is in a respectable area...and it is just three blocks south of Wanda's...the best strip club in Montreal.

I had the ginger beer and adored it so much I failed to try all their flavors. the brown was mild, the ipa pretty hoppy for canada. Cool old building, quick and friendly service, and a ginger beer I dream about.

Nothing really stood out but a ginger beer. Their idea of a brwon ale is not a good one.

They had a large selection of beers on tap and they were all fine examples. What this place needs is a non-smoking section and a lunch/dinner menu. It seems that in Montreal they only drink cheap watery beer with their food as only bars had good beer. Too bad really. I was with my family so it was only after I put them to bed that I could sneak out and visit Brutopia, well worth the effort. Just a warning for family men, Montreal is NOT a family friendly city.

Great establishment- warm cozy fun. Local musicians play there on a regular basis... and the crowd is mostly university and/or 20/30-somethings. The beer- is great- nice mix of some housebews, and I particularily liked the raspberry creme ale. Don't do as my friend did and order a BUD though, as the staff had to be hosed down to get off of her :)

Like most people have mentionned, the IPA was my favorite, along with the XB but they were almost all hits with me. Except maybe the rasberry one which was quite flavorless. The stout wasn't available when I was there unfortunately. I would have loved to try it :( Maybe next time. Nice atmosphere too.

Stopped in after the 2001 Montreal World of Beer and loved the place. A bit smoky but I don't smoke. Beer was worth the stop. Great crowd, friendly, helpful and jovial. Just off a Metro stop from anywhere!

Great IPA. The other beers in the sampler were also very good. Eight house brews and several local micros on tap. Comfortable, friendly atomosphere and great service. Snacks are available during happy hour (didn't try any). Many other joints nearby on Crescent St., but you'll find yourself coming back to this one.

In my searching for the ultimate stout, this is the only brewpub that comes close to Guinness. The Porter is great too. If you can handle a smokey atmosphere, this is as good a place as any from Ottawa to Maine to Connecticut for a beer.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do... When in Montreal, drink beer at Brutopia!!! Not only was the staff attentive and knowledgable, they made you feel as if this was your neighborhood hangout. I recommend trying the sampler and discussing your choices with Jeff (manager and barkeep while I was there). I loved the stout and the IPA. I am not a Blonde fan, but their Blonde was good and surprisingly their Rasberry Blonde made my top 5 list for them.
I say keep on brewing to Brutopia. May your malt and hop stream never end.
