Only tried two beers (don't remember which) and did not really care for either. The food was good, service great, and location fantastic.

If I lived in Milwaukee this would probably be the only place I ever went. Beer selection and overall quality are outstanding, and the staff are cheery and eager to help. The river flowing by the front door doesn't hurt either.

This was another stop on my 9 day visit to Milwaukee and its worth the trip.Using an old tannery building it has plenty of atmosphere right on the river and the beer and food is great. You can't miss with this one.

We stayed in Milwaukee 2 nites and went to both Rock Bottom and the Ale House. Rock Bottom had a nice view from the patio but the Ale House has more of an authentic brewery/pub feel, large but cozy interior in an old brick building and a smaller but cozy balcony patio on the river. I really loved this place - one of my favorites on our 3-week "beer tour" through the midwest.

Nice open inside area but sit on the back deck overlooking the river, it's a real pleasant place to spend and evening.

This is a great place. I had several of the Pull Chain Pale before I ordered the best drink of the night. Their Bloody Marys are second to none. It is like fresh squeezed tomatoes topped with pickled asparagus. It was so good, we asked to take some with us. Unfortunately they wanted twenty bucks for a growler full, and that is without booze. Really, go for the beer, but stay for the bloodys.

Had the pleasure of stopping in on my way up to Green Bay for the steeler game. Nice establishment. Enjoyed the beers and the food. Also had the pleasure of meeting Carl who was a regular. He took the time to buy a beer for me and my friend.

Wow! Louise's Demise is one of the finest beers in America, and there is a wonderful story behind the name! The cask-conditioned ale was equally fantastic! The other beers were all superior. The bartenders and waitresses knew their beers and were very friendly. Don't miss this place when you are in Milwaukee!

wonderful atmosphere, the stout is rather bland, but the solomon juneau, louise demise, are tasty and nicely balanced. Extreme hopheads will consider the pull chain pale ale not hoppy enough. The food is ok if you stick with the burgers or cajun dishes. nice deck overlooking the river.

Maybe I was already in a bad mood from visiting a closed Lakefront and Sprecher, both closed for private parties, but this place seemed more interested in being a big club/bar/ live band spot than a brewery. I saw more people drinking Miller Light than their house beers. I tried the Pullchain Pail Ale and it was simply OK, drinkable, but nothing special.

I wish that there was a field in these ratings for "ambience" because if so, the Milwaukee Ale House would get one high number from me. This is one of the best-looking converted-warehouse-to-brewpub jobs I've ever seen, maintaining a distinct shopworn look yet having all the modern conveniences...and it's a huge place with two distinct balcony levels overlooking the river. That's cool. What's not cool is the beer, which apart from a very good Hefe was all mediocre, and the food, a really really lame pizza in my case. Service was fine, but this was a real disappointment, I'd read all kinds of good things on another site about it. Well, it wasn't so bad that it's not worth one more shot, so perhaps I'll re-review in the future...

The beers here are solid, but not spectacular. They have a very good pale ale and the scotch ale and stout are pretty good as well. For this visit, I had the pizza and was sorry. It wasn't terrible, it just had a Chef Boy-ar-Dee kind of bland sauce. The sandwiches are better, just stay away from the pizza unless you don't need much in the way of flavor. The service was quite good.

How many growlers can you fit into my canoe? Cool atmosphere. Marginal live music. Free pool on Sunday(?). The best river & beer access in town. Canoes are welcome, provided they don't conflict with any of the cigarette boats. Kayaks are not permitted to interfere with the canoes, no exceptions!. Windsurfers who collide with snorkelers or kayaks should consult with one of the attorneys on the cigarette boat, who, by the way, may have to move your canoe from the pier for homeland security reasons. Daay! Daay-yoe! I say daylight come and me wanna go home! Daay! A-BR

They now are serving "Cask Conditioned Ales". Great way to enjoy beer. The waitresses didn't mind that we are just a bunch of harmless old guys. They just enjoyed our jokes that I'm sure they have heard a hundred times, but pretended it was their first time.

The Sheephead Stout is pretty tasty, and it goes well with a big bowl of their gumbo on a cool evening. A nice place to stop after work for a bite to eat and a cold beer. If you're a true connoiseur of the finest beers on earth though, forget about the Ale House.

Beer was excellent, great atmosphere and food. Ignore Wyf Beater's review, must have something against the alehouse. Beers had character, not just different shades of color. The Pull Chain Pail Ale was the best I've had. Orange Blossom Cream Ale is out of this world. Great two level river deck with connection to Riverwalk.

The beer is amazing. This place has improved tremendously over the years. The sevice has always been great, and when it hasn't, I would mention something and they would make it right! They are locally and family owned and they actually do care about service. They took care of me when I did have a problem, hell, problems occur in their biz, but these folks are working for us!! TRY THE LOUIE"S DEMISE ALE! MMMMMMM!

Food has greatly improved since opening in 1996. (Wyf Beater should revisit, they're completely redone the bathrooms). Beer has always been EXCELLENT. I really like the Pull Chain Pail Ale and Louie's Demise, the Stout is delicious, Downtown Lites easy drinking lighter honey ale, Solomon Juneau has nice hop aroma. On this visit they had a Prohibition style ale, and Ale House Weiss, one of the best domestic Weiss beers I've ever had. A nice old beer hall atmosphere with lots of exposed cream city brick and timber. Nice two level outside deck on the Milwaukee River with access to the Riverwalk system.
