i guess i cant give an accurate review of this place, because it's staff put me in a bad mood before i got my first beer.
i showed up with an empty backpack. (one i took from a buddy's apartment before going out because i forgot it there prior to that night.)
after asking to search my bag, and me complying with no hesitation, the bouncer began to question my backpack. when i told him why i had it, he didn't believe me and he and the other bouncer began giving me a hard time about it for about 4 or 5 min. he was arguing everything that came out of my mouth. i wanted to argue back, but i could tell this guy was in love with himself and was just waiting for me to give him attitude so he could refuse my entry.
final he let me in after putting me in a terrible mood and i waited for the rest of my friends to come in. when they came in they said the two bouncers were trash talking the hell out of me after i walked away for no reason.
we went to find the bag check because i was told that i had to check my empty backpack for like $4. when we got to where the bouncers sent us, there was no bag check, and the employee we asked looked at us and spoke to us like we were f*ckin' idiots as he told us the bag check was upstairs. when we got upstairs... no bag check. we asked again upstairs and they told us it was downstairs.
my suggestion to the bell in hand is to stop hiring these macho-men pretty boys who love themselves and are so sure of every measly thought that squeezes its way out of their tiny brains.
so yeah... i hated this bar.

Nice afternoon day. Two guys settled in nicely in the corner singing away. Figure this to be a good spot to park it for a while and quaff. Wrong. Bartender would not look in my direction. I did all but set my hair on fire. I finally asked the waitress if we could sit at a table, and she barely moaned, barfed, drooled, or whatever. Look in Webster’s Unabridged under “Bitch” and they’ll have the picture of those two. That and the loudmouth Yankee fan “look at me” blabbing on the cell phone was good reason to go across the alley to the Green Dragon, where the service is great, the beer is cold, and the food is phenomenal.
Skip this place at all cost.

Very mundane beer selection and full of tourists doing the Freedom Trail. The only micro available was Harpoon IPA, which is ok in a pinch but is bland and watery. I don't understand the perspective of those who claim this place has a "great" beer selection.

Always a fun stop, but during that brief Boston period that is post-students and pre-tourists, Bell in Hand is a must for an afternoon of nice weather, downtown beer consumption. The casement windows open onto the street and provide the feel of sidewalk dining/drinking without the inconvenience of feeling part of the pedestrian flow. The pierced & tattoed crowd has finished finals & headed home, but the lost hordes of map-carryers aren't here yet. If you find yourself craving a couple of pints on a temperate afternoon between mid-May and mid-June, get thee to the Bell in Hand!! I rated the food N/A only because in all these years, I've never eaten there! Great beer & service, though.

Probably the best place for a quiet pint in Faneuil Hall - the house brew is quite good, particularly on a summer day.

Great location right in the heart of the Faneuil Hall. The night we went there was one rally ugly guy with horrible teeth hanging out the window screaming at people....other than that it was great!

Although I was a tourist in Boston, I wanted to visit a place with local flavor. I greatly enjoyed the atmosphere!

One of the relatively few places in the city with Tetley's on tap. This is a very loud, festive place on weekends. Quite fun if you're into that; I had a great time.
The beer isn't cheap, however. A 22 oz import will set you back 6 bucks.

Great New England tavern type ambiance. right in the middle of a bustling part of Boston. Gets a touristy crowd now and then but still good... the beer is fresh but they have the standard micros and UK brews, nothing new to try :-( I like a place that has at least one rotating tap for new and unusual brews. Afterall, don't we all want to taste new and different ales...
