I see that the rviews for Titanic are as mixed as they were 9 years ago. I also see that they are at least as good as they were then.
We started with samples of all of their current beers (more later)efore getting food and a beer each for supper. My buddy looked like he was really enjoying his blackened mahimahi sandwich and brown ale while I was having my shrimp escaviche, conch and crawfish fritters, and salad with my best bitter.
The service was prompt and courteous.
As to the beers:
WHITE CAP WHEAT (seasonal): (B) It tried to be a full-fledged German heffeweizen but didn't have quite enough of the "bananas and cloves" flavor to get an "A". Well crafted with georgeous bubbles and lacy head.
TRIPLE SCREW (Koelsch): (B+) It's light, creamy, malty, and noticibly bitter.......everything a Koelsch should be (maybe a little too bitter?). A good version of the style.
BOILER ROOM (Nut Brown): (A) Is a rich, malto brown ale. Maybe a little heavy on the dark malts for the style but very well done.
BRITANIC (Best Bitter): (A) The malt predominates (as it should) but it finishes with a lingering fruity bitterness. There is some American hop character but it is done in the English style.
CAPTAIN SMITH'S RYE: (A) Gentle on the rye but it is there. A nicely balanced beer with some ale fruitiness, some rye sourness, and some hop bitterness and flavor. Nice beer.
SHIP BUILDERS (Oatmeal Stout): (B) Big roasty flavor with coffee and chocolate notes. "Guiness with oatmeal but w/o the nitrogen dispensing:.
DUBBEL TROUBLE (Seasonal): (C) A good effort and a fine, drinkable beer but light bodied for a dubbel and the candi sugar dominated the flavor.

Our food was very good. The bisque had a nice flavor. Our sandwiches were served nice and warm and varied from Dolphin to skirt steak. As far as the beers, I started with a British bitter. Looking for some hop flavor, I moved to the India Pale Ale style. Sadly, I am still looking for some hop flavor days later. Both were fine beers to drink, but not the IBU's I would expect for their style. Overall, a nice little place to visit. Quiet enough to share a lunch but close enough to the U of Miami to be fun after hours.

True beer lovers like myself will think they've died and went to Heaven. Even better - in Ritzy Corral Gables they are actually low priced. I was drinking the Rye Ale - one of many award winners, and was charges $2.50 per PINT. I love this place.

I visited this place for the first time two years ago and fell in love with it. I did feel like an idiot though the first time there, ordering a Heineken(dumb, I know), but the bartender was cool and suggested the sampler.
Out of all the beers I loved the "Triple Screw", most. I ordered it so much on later visits that the bartender knew what I wanted without me saying so when I sat down.
It has a very neighborhood feel to it. If I lived in Miami I would be a regular . It is the type of place you go to and lose track of time because you feel so comfortable. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
The food rocks! The mussels in white wine sauce are out of sight!! Dip your crusty French bread into the sauce -- oh my God -- so good! Even the desert was good, great carrot cake.
The prices are very reasonable and the have specials on brews during football games.
It will always be one of the first places I visit when in town.
PS. If you are a University of Miami Hurricanes fan check out the store next door. They have tons of 'Canes gear. It's like Graceland for UM fans.

There is at least some refuge for beer geeks in the Miami area. Located across the street form the Metrorail tracks - though the nearest station is about 10 minutes away, I found the beers to be reliable and consistent, though may be too complex for the Bud Lovers that have been giving the "Lousy" reviews. And to the Miami-area beer geeks, you should be thankful that this establishment exists. The selection is varied and includes most styles: White Star IPA, made with Cascade hops, has a mildly hoppy, clean finish (7%abv); Brittanic Best Bitter, a traditional English-style fermented eith British yeast - not as hoppy and rather light (%5.5 abv); Captain Smith's Rye, a German-style amber (altbier?) with malted rye (%6.00 abv); Boiler Room Nut Brown, an unfiltered British-style nut brown with roasted malts and toffee (%5.00 abv.) TBC also offers a wheat a light beer (It is Florida, afterall) If I lived in Miami, I would come here often.

Well, here's my two cents worth. I visited Miami about two years ago and made it to the Titanic Pub. At the time I had read the Pubcrawler reviews and wanted to see for myself. Frankly, I was quite impressed, especially for a Florida brewpub (is that an oxymoron?). The beers were superb, nice looking place too. Lots of dark woods and copper. Even the bench-type seats were real leather! The food was very good, and the server was efficient, knowledgeable and easy-on-the-eyes. Overall, I really liked the place. If I were to ever own a pub, I would want it to be like this place. I re-visited the place last month during another Miami trip. The food was still very good and the menu had been expanded quite a bit. I would honestly say that the mussels were the best I've had anywhere. They now have a full bar (meaning liquor) and have added large screen TVs all over. The bathrooms were clean and the overall place seems to be "kept-up" nicely. The staff is extremely nice, the beers rock, the foods good and so is the service. BOTTOM LINE - Even with all the crazy mixed reviews, there's a reason that this place continues to thrive! They do it right and I commend them for it.

Where's an iceberg when you really need one? The friendly and otherwise competent staff didn't know a damn thing about the bland beer they were serving. At first I thought all the bad reviews were just the work of a ballot-stuffing jerkweed. Some of them obviously were, but not all of them.

You haver to trust us locals..the beer hear is just plain bad. If you go, ask the server how often they clean the taps (not that she will tell you the truth) It is clear in tasting their beers that they lack the cleanliness necessary to run a successsful establishment. The beers are just plain bad..no taste, no life,no variety. This is a boring placce with boring beer. can't vouch for the food never had it.Go to the Bar in Coral Gables or the Abbey on Miami Beach or better yet, Gordon Biersch downtown Miami.

I started with the Old Gnarly Barleywine, but it missed the mark by quite a bit. It had a nice floral nose but was too estery. The taste was way too citrusy and went flat on the palate fast. There was considerable phenols present also. But wait. The Boiler Room Nut Brown is a gold-medal winner in my book. I know what one taste likes because my brewer friend won three of them at the GABF over the years. It is a perfect example of this style. My favorite though was Captain Smith's Rye. I've never seen this in the Northeast and it's listed in the "Specialty" category at the GABF and also by the BJCP guidelines. It had a very warm malt nose with no detractors. The taste was malty and perfectly balanced and was very long on the palate. There were hints of nuts and spices alternating along with subtle fruits, but nothing was overbearing. This was a nice session beer and I could have stayed all night.
They should post the ABV's, but my server Angie was terrific. If she didn't have the answer at hand, she went and got it with no complaint and returned a minute later each time. I kidded her about being in the corporate world and being forced to go through ISO certification where you're taught if you don't know the answer to just say, "I don't know the answer but I know where to get it." I hope I wasn't too much of a pest, but Angie was a terrific host and I took care of her accordingly.
I nibbled on some non-descript wings while quaffing, but my other half had a specially good prime rib at a Saturday special price of $10.95, which was a tremendous bargain considering what she got. This place went straight to the top of my “to do” list and I hope to get back soon. The place was full of college kids, some with parents, but it was an adult crowd none the less. It’s located on the Metrorail line and I wished I had taken it south from Miami as US 1 was a mess getting there. It looks like there’s a stop a relatively short walking distance away (or cheap cab ride).

We really enjoyed our visit here. Good selection of beer, and the ones we tried were good. This was our 4th brewpub so we didn't sample them all. Food was very good, I had a HUGE salad, very fresh and crisp and my father had a seafood chowder. Nice logo items also. Service was good, atmosphere was college-crowd.

I travel for work, go to brewpubs both for the beer and in search of eclectic menus, Titanic nails both. IPA much less hoppy than my favorite Bell's but great floral finish. Others on Porthole Sampler similarly understated but good, my taste runs to more robust. Huge & varied menu, tried several food items, all were great and reasonably priced for a big city. Portions too big to finish. Friendly down-home college ambiance.

being a beer lover, i was recommended to this place by a few people...i couldnt have been more disappointed. the food is overpriced, and isnt all that great to begin with (stick to the fries and wings). while reviewing the beer selection, you are fooled into thinking that theres an actual variety here, wrong...the beer is horrible, i dont care what the beer judge says...he probably works for them or with them..maybe he's the owner? but the beer is pure garbage, i tried their porthole sampler, and i think i would have been better off going to the gas station and buying something bottled and domestic. most had the same bland taste, the ipa had this horrible rotted orange flavor, the oatmeal stout (which i was never too fond of) is the only other one that actually has any real distinguishable flavor...the rest of them tasted like different levels of watered down nut brown ale, maybe the rye ale was decent, but thats decent relative to the rest of their sorry beers. Hops, with their national chain of restaurants, produces superior quality beer when compared to titanic. go for the wings, fries, and music...not the beer.

My first vist to the Titanic was back in 2000, and I ordered a porthole sampler to go along with my meal. Both were excellent. The rye was certainly outstanding and I ordered a folowup pint. The waiter returned with news from Colorado (I think that's where it was) - they'd just received a call and this beer had just won a silver medal! Well, it certainly felt as though I had been the judge! It was a truly fine batch, sadly I have not had a equal of the same since.
And to all those who missed out on the fresh Schwartzbier last year - damn. Likely one of my top ten favorite beers, it seemed to loose it's sparkle after only a couple weeks. Truly one of the outstanding beers in the world!
Also a good place to learn about mud bugs and sea slugs!

I heard about this place from a coach at the University of Miami. What a find. First, the beers are excellent. Second, the food is both good and cheap - two things I really like. And the service, holy cow. Its like a babe-fest in there, all the waitresses are pretty, nice and friendly. And for music fans (which I am one) they have music almost every night. I would definately say this place is one of the best bar or brewpubs I've ever been to.

To Mr. Rusk: Your place has much potential. White Star PA has complex hoppy flavor, and is just plain orgasmic from the cask. The problem is the cask is rarely (if ever) running. Plus your employees don't give a f*** about beer, or the cask. Seems like they just want to serve whatever is easiest to draught and get tips. This attitude is typical Miami, so I can't fault you for that. But please please please run the cask a bit more frequently.

My second time visiting Titanic in 3 years. Sampled the Best Bitter and Oatmeal Stout. Both were excellent. Interesting and unique selection of darker beers for a warm climate locale. The food was reasonably priced and the portions were large. Good beer, good food and live music. I was in a New York state of mind.

I can't quite make sense out of the people trashing the Titanic. I do understand that someone can sometimes get poor service in any restaurant, so I won't try to tell anyone who reports poor service that they are lying. In the (literally) 100+ times I've been in the Titanic, I have seen rare server mistakes, but they are made right. The Titanic probably has the lowest turnover I've ever seen in a restaurant, indicating that they treat staff right, and nurturing knowledgable staff.
How anyone can report a beer SELECTION less than good is incomprehensible; with on-premises brewed beers ranging from a Koelsch (Triple Screw Light) - a light German ale style, through an English Special Bitter, a Nut Brown Ale (English ), a German-inspired (and multi-award winning) Rye Ale, an India Pale Ale, an Oatmeal Stout and various seasonal brews, then add in guest tap and bottled beers, it would seem that the reviewer doesn't comprehend the definition of the word "selection". I'm also sure that the selection will only improve once the lifting of the oppressive Florida beer bottle law restricting bottle sizes is officially lifted in October. Anyone considering themselves a beer drinker should be able to find something here that they like. (To Stewart, from Boulder, CO, the most recent review I see today: I wish you had the stout and/or IPA available, being busy, they do sometimes run out of a beer, it's rare that two are out; If you're in town again, e-mail me, I'll buy you one or the other.)
Regarding beer quality, and as a Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) Recognized judge, I must ask whether someone is ranking the "quality" of the beer on how well it ranks within it's style, or maybe the drinker doesn't care for the particular style. Jamie Ray (the brewmaster) is not afraid of challenging the palate of his clientele. Titanic's beers have fared extremely well in national and international competitions and the restaurant has gotten very favorable reviews by restaurant critics dining anonomously; that should say something.
Since I have defended the restaurant and its staff, a disclaimer is probably due. I have no financial stake whatsoever in the Titanic, although I am a Mug Club member and very regular customer. I consider most of the management and staff to be friends. I am a home-brewer and beer judge, so I know more about beer and brewing than the average person; I can also appreciate personal tastes. If you've got a real, valid criticism of any establishment, certainly, voice it, but try to make it constructive criticism; that way we all benefit when the establishment listens and remedies the problem.

I didn't know what to expect with all the different reviews. They were out of the stout and the IPA when I visited. The service was terrible- a rude and Unknwledgeable waiter. the esb was okay and the brown ale was very good. The rest of the beers were nothing special. Overall- I wouldn't go out of your way to visit this place.

Wow, it's really wierd reading all the mixed reviews on this pub. I was there for my first time tonight and loved it. Some of the best beers I've have anywhere. I asked for the brewer but he wasn't there. I did meet Mike the manager and he seemed real pleasant. I asked him about the comments on Pubcrawler and his statement was that " apparently we have made our competition or some other people pissed off". He did point out that Titanic also won an additional 2 silver medals at this years Great American Beer Festival (2000), making them the most award winning brewery in Florida. Not only that - they did it over the first 18 month since they opened. After tasting their beers, I would have to agree that their beer is great, they deserve their awards and someone really dislikes them.

I was here a year ago and chose not to offer a review. I feel obligated to do so now, given their rather unpleasant attempts to assail the product and reputation of the Tampa Bay Brewing Co. So they're up for a medal? Stroh's Light won one somewhere. I don't recall now what I had, but I noted that the selection was limited and I barely finished the beer. One great thing about brewpubs is the friendliness and knowledgeability of the staff. There are exceptions, and this was one. It wasn't too crowded but the bartender seemed to have something better to do than answer my questions about their product. If I made beer like this I suppose I'd be posting negative comments on the review sites for good brewpubs, too.
