The brown ale was well crafted - they had a cask version. The IPA and Pilsner were all sweet - way too much crystal in the IPA and the pilsner needed a more attenuative yeast to accentuate the hop character. I was disappointed versus other Rock Bottoms.

Dinner was great, Eight soccer officials after working hard all day needed a place to unwind. This place was great and we had a very good time. Food was great and the atmosphere was really nice. We will definately be back.

Let me tell you, this place is the tops! Nothing beats heading outside on a crisp Autumn day, throwing the ol' pigskin around with the guys, and then heading over to Rock Bottom for some great-tasting beer!! Let me tell you, Charlotte has many fine establishments, but this one really takes the cake...I just love it!!

MAKE NO MISTAKE. This is no Rock Bottom, well, not part of the famous Rock Bottom chain anyway. It's a Grodon Biersch brewpub. I had read somewhere that this was doled out to someone as part of a legal settlement or something, and it's currently only up to Biersch standards which are inferior to the real Rock Bottom. The restaurant is kind of a blend of the 2 styles.

I visited this brewpub on 12/22/03. Brews available were Southern Flyer Light Lager, Prospectors Pilsner, Randalph's Ride Red Ale, Stingin' Brits IPA, Sweet Magnolia Brown Ale, Iron Horse Stout, Winters Nip Holiday Porter & Sweet Magnolia Brown Ale on Cask. Not being a fan of chain brewpubs I have found that in the past couple years Rock Bottom is doing a much better job with there brews. I no longer fear my Rock Bottom visits.

The Red was excellent, more hoppy than even the IPA. The IPA was delicious, and the Stout was absolutely wonderful. The waitstaff was timely and attentive, and the food, while very good, did not detract from the beer...overall, a wonderful place. I'll be back.

Chain or not, this was a worthwhile stop. The three beers I tried (a tasty brown, lighter IPA, and decent wheat) were all drinkable, and the food and service were both above average. I wouldn't go out of my way, but a comfortable place to be if you're stuck in downtown Charlotte.

Looks as if some 13-year olds found this web site and a new way to get their jollies (all the 3-25-03 postings). The beer seemed to be brewed more for the masses than for the discerning. The pale ale was rather weak, but the brown was pretty good. Still better than the average bar. The food was great, and I definitely would return for the grilled tuna sandwich and a brown ale.

Here is a comment I place for the Atlanta unit...they also apply to Charlotte.>>>> Rock Bottom owns irs brewpubs and doesn't franchise - The Atlanta and Charlotte units are separate from the larger company of the same name as they were part of a division of assets that took place when Rock Bottom went from a public company to private several years ago. Big River in Chattanooga was a partner in a particular joint venture created when Rock Bottom was still public, and to resolve ownership issues that allowed Rock Bottom to cease being a public company, Big River walked away with the two locations as part of the settlement. Big River is often now called the Gordon Biersch Group and is based in Chattanooga. It should not be confused with the Gordon Biersch Brewery, which produces the bottled beer of the same name and divested the brewpub group (to Big River) to comply with manufacturer-retailer (3-tier) legalities. As for the quality or styles of beer, since Rock Bottom has no control over the two locations, Big River is likely under no obligation to brew to company lines or standards, and if you go to the Rock Bottom website, no mention is made of the aforementioned units. The relationship seems a bit icy at best. To keep up with southern brewing news, go to www.BeerSouth.com

"One of the fine Brewery Corporations in the East Coast ..." Actually they're based out of Colorado. And as one fellow here says, the Charlotte branch is not affiliated with the chain, though it's anyone's guess as to how they got to keep using the corporate name and logo. Licencing/franchise agreement I suppose. Still, I tend to believe him because this branch is not listed on the corporate website's locator page.

The quality of the beer is excellent and there is absolutely NOTHING comparable in this area! I like a WELL hopped beer and they are almost impossible to find here in Bud/Busch (aka Shirley Temple) country. The IPA is one of the best beers I've tasted across America and currently, my favorite. Keep those beers well hopped!

One of the fine Brewery Corporations in the East Coast ...Been to many around the states haven't come across many that have such an overall excellent rating....Loved the Brown and IPA ....wish they would carry a wider variety of beers because the Brewmaster has a great talent

This place rocks on Friday and Saturday nights now with live bands. The Stingin Brits IPA is really good. The food is outstanding also. I would suggest sitting at the bar to eat as the service is nice. Highly recommend!

Pleasant place. Beers were clean but without a lot of character. Good commercial mass-market beers. The Brown ale was the most interesting of the lot, followed by a seasonal porter. Food was good, service friendly and attentive.
