This place is no longer a brewpub, but they have a decent selection of beers on tap. The food is probably the best meal you can get in the Mount Snow Valley for less then $10. I may not go out of my way to stop here when not in the area, but go out of may here when I am in the area. Worth a visit.

As a former employee of this establishment, first under Mark and Darren's ownership; which was worthy of MANY 'Great' to 'Awesome" marks, and then as an employee of the new owner, Margaret please be advised it is not a good idea to eat or drink here.
The food is of sub par quality in terms of ingredients she uses and the standards and practices in this establishment ARE DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH. While I enjoyed the customers and having a job it became impossible to in good conscience serve food that most likely was going to make my customers sick.
Please be VERY careful if you should go there.
Also it is not a brewery any longer.

The new chef has made amazing changes to the menu. The beer is no longer the only reason to come to the Leaf. The beer is always great. They might not have the largest selection do to the size of the place, but rarely do their own brews or the guest beers disappoint. Great local crowd and right on the way to Mount Snow brings in a lot a different people and there is always a friendly atmosphere. Add in a great staff and I see no reason to go anywhere else.

Last time I reviewed this place I said I was "rarely disappointed" when visiting here. Last trip in must have been one of those rare occasions. Not enough of the house beers to fill a sampler, and the quality not that hot. People seemed more interested in the VW bus we arrived in than anything that remotely resembled the beer. Guest taps way better than the house product. Pity.

As I'm planning a brewpub crawl, I went up to check the place out on a Saturday afternoon. The bar itself seats about eight, with maybe six more at the two hightops in the "lounge" area. I doubt if the dining room seats more than twenty-five, so it's easily crowded, as it was when I was there around 4 pm. Of only four or five beers on tap, one, an Oatmeal Stout, was theirs. Although the Stout was very good, at $4 for a short pint (approximately 12 oz. after subtracting the 1-1/4" head), it's a bit too pricey. I think we'll bypass this one on our way back from McNeill's in Brattleboro.

A recent Sunday afternoon stop found the place packed. Purchased a sampler and liked everything I tried. The dunkel and the hefe were both balanced well. Mr Toad's Wild Ale was a nice amber with Cascade and Amarillo, not very citrusy, but with a good hop bite at the finish. Lenny's Porter was roasty, but not heavy. Grey Ghost Imperial IPA was pretty drinkable--hop buzz throughout. Rarely have I been disappointed when stopping here.

This is a great place for the real beer enthusiast! The quality is superb and the domestic selections they provide are all top of the line. This isn't the place to go for a budwieser, it's truly a quality brew pub with extremely knowledgeable brewmasters! Cheers!

First chance to check them out fully up and running since the ownership change. Cozy, tiny place just on the way to Brattleboro (McNeill's !!!). 9 seat bar, 7 beers on tap. Was pleased with the quality overall: Californication was a hoppy Calif Common, very nice. Stonehenge EPA was a good ale, and would have been my choice if I were to be there for the long haul. Old English Ale was dark, and had a warming quality to it. Hopadelic was my pick as the best; hoppy, but smooth and drinkable. Lenny's Legend Porter--a good solid brew, choclately, tasty. Bring Out Your Dead was a dubbel that I thoght was OK, but the spices seemed to be a bit over the top, maybe out of balance. I got the Vermont Melt, not because it's the touristy thing to do, but because it's a good sandwich. Locals came and went, bartender got a bit busy with table service and we waited a while for service , but nothing too extreme. A good place.

Great little pub in a great little town, in fact visit just for the town. The beer is decent but nothing compared to the brew that is available 20 minutes to your west. Didn't find the place friendly, which bummed me out.

I rated the beer selection as lousy only because they only had two beers (Californicaion & Summer Wheat) on tap. The reason is they are closing for remodeling. The two beers I had were good. The service was outstanding. The kitchen manager Louis took an hour out of his time to talk with us and show us around. It will be a nice place to go after the new owners remodel.

As luck would have it they were still open pending approval of their permits for the renovations. Young Abby was right on top of things behind the bar and was very pleasant to talk to. She was more than happy to tell us of the changes in store for the place, which are mentioned in previous reviews.
I hate to rate the beer selection as “so so” but they are keeping stock levels low purposely not knowing when construction will begin. I can relate to that. They had two of their own on tap Sunday and two guests. Their Hopadelic Pale Ale was an American one and properly hopped to a higher level than would be for an English Pale. Having far to drive I had to limit my self to two, so I tried the ESB Banshee as much as I would have liked another pale as it was that good. The ESB came across with a nice malt flavor but not overdone, and light on hops. I guessed it lower but the ABV was close to 5%. It is a nice session beer though. The guest beers were Otter Creek Lager and Magic Hat #9. The Otter Creek should be proud to be a guest, but that Magic Hat I wouldn’t wash my car with and it amazes me as to how many places serve it.
I was lucky to meet Darren the brewer who arrived before I left. He was extremely knowledgeable and great to chat with, and I look forward to sampling his other beers once they expand. I was told he came on board shortly after my last visit in October 2003. This place is a drive for me but worth the trip. Abby suggests anyone intending to visit should call first as they may shut down any day. 802-464-2590.

Beer - very good. A- German style. Bought a growler Music - D. 70s Oldies Bar - Small storefront in a tiny town right next to the town hall with two cop cars parked outside. Very down home, like someone's home.

As the previous reviewer said, there is a new owner. Had a chance to talk with him. There are grand plans for a renovation this spring. The bar is moving to an entirely new area on the second floor. Much of the kitchen is being replaced and the first floor will become a dining area. He will also be adding brewing capacity in the form of at least one more primary. The selection was minimal (besides guest beers) only 2 house beers on tap, a porter and brown. Neither seemed exceptional, but neither were poor either. Lets hope that with the additional capacity and some planning the new owner can keep a better selection on tap. Didn't have any of the food. As for service: on a weekday afternoon there were something like 6 people in the place, so I'd have to say it was excellent.

I'm using the N/A option for this review because, as I understand it, Maple Leaf has just changed owner and brewer and is in the process of many changes. There were two house beers and three guest beers on tap. Of course, McNeills Imperial Stout was great, but I also liked the house Hopadelic IPA. As this is always there on the way to McNeills for me, I'll reserve further judgement until my next trip through.

Update, February 2004. Not being an NFL fan at all and wanting to get away from the Pats frenzy I did the natural -- went brewpub hopping. I knew I'd end up at McNeills (no TV!) but decided to check this place out again first. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. There were only 3 house beers on tap, alas, which our server explained was due to "grain problems." What the...? Luckily, 2 of the 3 were good choices, the English Special being something of a high-test ESB, and the Barley Wine a very sweet, smooth, "aged" example of the style. The Black Diamond (Imperial) Stout alas tasted flawed, spoiled milk or something like that. Food was nothing special, your basic brewpub fare, but cheap and quickly served. On the whole, a much better time than I had last year; I'd say, go for the stronger, more adventurous stuff and you'll have a better time than if you try the brown ales, pales, etc.

Bel Air, go to a REAL brewpub like McNeills just a few minutes away in Brattleboro, The People's Pint just across the border in Greenfield MA, or Dieu du Ciel a couple hours up the road in Montreal. This place serves watery second-rate "craft" beers for stoned drunk ski bums who wouldn't know a saison or a faro if they were drowning in it. Just because someone doesn't like this place doesn't mean they're a BudMillerCoors man; it means they know the difference between a pretend-quality beer establishment and a real one. Not one beer I had here was good; the IPA and Winter Ale were pedestrian but drinkable, the Porter and Brown very mediocre, the Ski Bunny Blonde was as vapid as its name and most of the clientele, and the Porter probably the worst of this great style I've had. Sorry to be high-and-mighty, but after 1000+ beers and 50+ brewpubs I think I can tell you that this is one of the weaker ones I've been to. People thinking this is "awesome" couldn't handle a McNeills Bucksnort; more for me! Good clam chowder though; service quite mediocre.

Muzzlehatch huh? Well i can tell you when i went to 2 different brew festivals, one in Burlington. The Maple Leaf line was HUGE. The buzz was about their IPA and Porter. I cannot believe you are talking about the same beer! Many people in the brewing business were VERY impressed. McNiels is great beer. I have had them as well. Maple Leaf is as good if not better in some cases. And People's Pint????????? If you think that beer is good, well your judgment is VERY suspect. You sound like an unhappy person....sorry.

First off, thanks Mike. I apologize if I only know you by face. Refresh my memory next time you're in. You settled up a few issues of beer quality, and now I'd like to settle up a few issues of equality. Mr Muzzlehatch, I'd like to respond to a few things you touched on in your scathing review. I believe that making personal attacks on our customers is beneath contempt. It is unecessary and there is no place for it in this forum. By addressing your review toward a customer and not the Maple Leaf itself you are setting a very negative and misleading tone. But to further label customers as "stoned ski bums" and "vapid" blondes, is not only an insult to our customers, but to all customers in any brewpub. Did you meet and get to know any of those people you speak so highly of? Or are you just making assumptions based on the fact that they are drinking beer that you do not care for? Secondly, what, in your opinion, constitutes a "REAL" brewpub? Why is McNeill's, People's Pint, or Dieu du Ciel any more "REAL" than Maple Leaf (or Bullfrog in Williamsport, or Moutain Sun in Boulder, or Wild Duck in Eugene, etc.)?
