Like the last review said, Lighthouse Brewing Company changed to Roadhouse on the River in June 2003 and scaled back to only brewing for on premise serving. I'm not sure when they closed but 3 weeks ago an Italian restaurant opened at that location and removed all the brewing equipment. Please remove the listing so that other people won't drive 2.5 hours for the beer only to be disappointed like I was.

I've just learned that this place is opening up again, only under a different name...Roadhouse on the River. They'll specialize in Mexican food...should be interesting. They're not going to do any more bottling, but will brew on premise. They're due to open in June. I'll check them out this summer.

I last reviewed this brewpub over the summer and now, apparently, they've gone out of business. Phone has been disconnected and Chamber of Commerce says it's up for sale. They had great distribution of their bottled products throughout Michigan...don't know if these will continue. Too bad...with a better product, they may have made it.

Made a specal trip down to Manistee from Traverse City just to finally give this place a try. First appearances were deceiving...a very nice atmosphere right on the river. I tried the sampler and all the beers were generally weak and over-carbonated. The stout was okay. I saw a table tent card for their Cherry Porter and that saved the day (almost). It had good body and chocolatey flavor with just a hint of flavor...I wish they could get their other beers right. The Caesar salad I ordered was drenched in dressing...terrible. The service was okay.

Beautiful place with a great view of the river. Good food, service, and beer made the experience very enjoyable. The icing on the cake was the in-depth, after-hours brewery and building tour given to us by the enthusiastic, knowledgeable Vice-President, with plenty of free samples afterwards. Some of the beers are now available in bottles. Manistee is a little out of the way, but it's worth it.

Kewl place in a neat little town. The beer is great, the porter in particular was tasty, though I agree with the previous reviewer, the bar manager is over carbonating the beer. Certainly more of a restaurant than a bar, they don't even have a T.V. yet I saw cable hookups. It is hard to imagine they will survive the winter without catering to a bar clientle. The upstairs would do nicely as their restaurant and the main floor their bar. It is obvious they plan to make large quantities of beer by the six 80 barrel fermenters. The brewmaster is obviously a skilled artisan who's skills are held in limbo waiting for the demand to match his abilities. Five of the six fermenters sat idle when we were there.
I made 3 visits since March and the food was outstanding 2 of 3 times. It seems to be lacking consistency, they forgot the pepper seasoning on the sirloin the second time. The first one was phenomenal. The New Orleans shrimp was fabulous, especially sopping up the flavorful juice with their fresh baked bread.
Most definitely worth a visit to beautiful western Michigan. Catch a sunset, they serve until 11.

I went there in a group of eight to try the beer. We were hardly welcomed since we were not eating. Between us, we sampled all their beers and not one was distinct. Most were bitter, and excessively carbonated. Their porter was the only one I would order if I ever was in the area again. It was a beautiful new brewery in a beautiful little downtown, set up more for tours than to enjoy good beer.

New microbrewery, less than a year old. Overlooks the Manistee River in the downtown Victorian district. Elegant decor.
