A must for anyone that likes Belgian beers. If you have fond memories of drinking an ale on the Grand Place, this is a must.

I have been to Waterzooi in Garden City about a dozen times and it never fails to live up to my expectations. My friends feel the same way. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is always good. Of course - I have always been there to catch up with friends - so have no idea of the single scene side and can't say much about that. I have been to their location in Rockville Centre for a few dates - food and atmosphere equally great - though I wish they served my favorite there as well - the sweet potato gnocchi.

I have a great passion for Belgian beers, and to find 24 on tap in one establishment was a great surprise. MAny of the Belgian styles are represented in the draft selection , complimented by an enormous bottle selection. Considering that Belgian drafts in NYC average $9 and up, the prices for beer here were very reasonable. I even received a "buy back" from the bartender, which made the overall tab even more reasonable. Yes the dinner menu prices are quite high, but you can get around this by sticking to the Mussels and frites which average $15 and are extreamly good. After 9pm the bar area does turn into a night club scene, however there are people that are there just to enjoy the beer. Another establishment next door appears to attract many of the night clubbers as the night goes on.(many actually be connected to Waterzooi). Although I don't live in LI, I am trying to convince my Homebrew club to make a road trip to this establishment during the daytime, which will allow us to partake in the amazing beer selection without the nightime distractions.

Unlike you, I've been to authentic Belgian Bistro's in Belgium. Besides the food, there is also a wide variety of people of varying backgrounds to talk with.
My issue with waterzooi was not the food or service, but the fact that the clientle all seemed to be 20-30 something types dressed like they were going to a fancy nightclub club.
In Belgium the same food and drink isn't as expensive, therefore you don't get "laaawwnnng island" yentas and square jawed pretty boys packing the place.
While you may get Belgian cuisine and beer at high prices, you do not get the Belgian atmosphere. And do you think most of the bitches there go and request a Tripple or Lambic? No - I bet you they ask for Amstel light and drink while they look for guys to hook up with.

TRY THE DELIRIUM TREMENS, BUT BE SURE TO LEAVE YOUR KEYS AT HOME. THESE BEERS ARE AWESOME AND PACK QUITE A PUNCH. NOT FOR THE BUD/COORS LIGHT DRINKERS.

Definitely NOT your average beer bar! This is an upscale LI restaurant that really takes pride in what it purports to be ... a purveyor of fine Belgian cuisine and beer. The food is excellent, if pricey (best Carbonade I've ever had!); beer selection on draft and in bottles is extensive (over 120) and well laid out and the wait staff are courteous, attentive and fairly well-informed from a beer perspective. Great place if you're looking to really impress someone.

Not your run of the mill Bistro. Every beer on Tap is from Belgium, many I have never seen before. The food is an adventure and wonderful. Prices are fairly good, expect to pay 30.00 per person and well worth it.

Not a place for a beer and a burger!!! ALL items a la carte so the bill ads up. If I'm at Roosevelt Mall might stop back for a beer at the bar, and try the mussels(1/2 the menu seems to be).

This place is for yuppies. You can tell by their decoration, by their bar tenders and by their prices. There is hardly a beer in here for under 5 dollars. Sure the selection is good, but no beer is worth the 6-12 dollars most of them are going for. And to add to that, they don't even serve you a full pint glass!!! You get less beer for more money.
The menu is a rip off. Who cares how good the food is. All their entrees are over 20 dollars. I do not wish to spend 60+ dollars for some beer and food.
However good their quality is, their prices and atmosphere (saw lots of LI yentas when I was there) prevents me from ever coming here again.

This is worth the visit! Belgian restaurants are cropping up all over Manhattan these days. This is closer, and just as good!
