HEADS UP! Uncle Tucker's goes OOB 10/31 -- that's today. They'll be having buy one-get one on entrees and pizzas as a farewell gesture, and the pizzas are really good. They were still pouring five beers as of 10/29, a golden ale and a Scottish ale among them, both fairly good. A family that has run the place for many years is getting out of the business and the new owner is turning it into an Italian restaurant. If you're in the neighborhhod, it's worth your while to stop and say goodbye. RIP.

Thanks for the heads-up, Lew. We'll be passing through on 10/29 and we'll make a point to stop in and help drain the tanks. You folks in western Maryland don't know how good you had it. Uncle Tucker's is pretty good and Deep Creek Brewing Co. was very good, and now they're both history. No brewpubs between Frederick and the West Virginia border that I know of. How sad. Oh well, maybe it'll mean a slight bump in business for West Virginia Brewing Co. in Morgantown, and that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Just talked to the folks at Uncle Tucker's: they've been bought, the new owners take over on November 1, and they do not intend to continue brewing on premises. Bummer.

Let's face it, we're not in the Pacific Northwest. If you want to drink the same 'ole NASCAR beer that's fine. But if you're looking for micro-brewed beer, then you must stop in. Whether you are passing thru or staying at Rocky Gap, this is the place to go to. You love the beer or just think it's so-so, but you can't argue with the price. (Beats $5-$6 pint in D.C.) You can always go to Seattle or Portland for fantastic beer, but at least try Uncle Tucker's, I think you'll be suprised.

I was here over the weekend as well, on Saturday around noon, and sampled everything...and found most of it pretty good. The Scottish? Dryly malty, with perhaps just a tinge of sourness, but just on the edge. The pale ale was quite good: "fruity, hoppy, busy, even frisky" say my notes, a beer I would have been happy to have a pint of. My traveling companion, a very experienced pro brewer at a well-known PA brewery, did get a pint of the pale, and enjoyed it. The barleywine was big, sweet, and fruity, and had some definite sherry notes from oxidation, and some boozy overtones from alcohol, both of which were fine in this context.
This is not the first time I've disagreed with people about the beers at Uncle Tucker's. But for the most part, I like them. They may be on the sweet side for my tastes, but not much. The brewhouse was immaculate and well-maintained, always a good sign. I'd be happy to stop in again.

Was there this past weekend, the Pale Ale and Scottish Export Beer smelled like a skunk and tasted horrible, so bad I had to return them and got a drinkable Barleywine that was So So. The Pizza I had was great though...

Only after several visits did we find out about the great basement pub. Upstairs is much more formal. Get a room at the ajoining motel and make a night of it.

I live in Baltimore and I am probally a little bit spoiled by places here like the Brewer's Art and alike. Recently my girlfriend moved to Cumberland for school so i make the weekly trek there on the weekends and needed a new watering hole. Found this place and I must say the venue is very cool, on a nice day the outside area is excellent! but lets get to the beer... the beer is very thin, little to no body. the Oatmeal stout should not be labeled as a stout because it was thinner then a Newcastle. All the brews have the same "sour" taste to them, although that I don't mind much being a big Lambic / Geueze fan, but over all the beer very much lacks! Havent tried the pizza yet, maybe this weekend...

You know, I saw all of the "good" or higher reviews and planned a stop on my last trip through Western Maryland even though my first time here was not that good. I still don't get it! I asked someone where to go for some beer and they showed me the brewery. When I got inside, was told "no one is here you need to go upstairs", and then I tried the beer! It's not very good (not lousy, for that see "Pennsylvania--Gettysbrew") Some (the Brown Ale) was spoiled, most just were thin.

Pizza place seeemed real busy with families. I however didn't try the pizza. So overall I can't go as low as lousy because others seemed to like the place. But I didn't see anyone else drinking draft beer. Beer itself was a step above lousy. I had the sampler which is listed as 6 for $4 but only 5 were listed on the board and that's all I got. Couln't tell the difference between the Apricot Ale and the Nut Brown. There was no taste to the Pale, Scottish or Stout. The crab soup was more like cream of cream soup. While I could sense what felt like bits of crabmeat in my mouth, it was totally tasteless.

This was an enjoyable place, but I was disappointed in the beer. They were all sour, as if they'd been sitting around months too long. Even a regular at the end of the bar made the same comment, so I assume there was just something temporarily wrong. Because of that I'll not rate their beer since everyone else seems to have really liked it. Pizza was good, but extra ingredients were a bit pricy considering how skimpy they were with them.

I just don't get the "great" beer reviews. I had the wheat and my wife the IPA. The wheat lacked any flavor of citrus and had no effervescence. The IPA tasted like burnt molasses. The pizza was pretty good. Service was so bad it was funny, but they were very short staffed. Our waitress admitted she didn't know much about the beers (I only drink light bear)

Wood fire pizza, hand crafted beer, and a room to spend the night? How can you go wrong with Uncle Tucker's? You just can't. I fell in love with this place as soon as I stepped foot in it. The wood fire pizzas here can stand toe to toe with any pizza in the US, and the beers are pretty damn tasty as well. I enjoyed a pint of their well done pale ale with some nice hop aroma, pale malt flavors, and nice hop bite. Their St. Patrick's Day Irish Stout was coffeeish, roasty, and dry, again an excellent beer. Finished my session at Uncle Tucker's with a Scottish Export as I enjoyed a Philly cheese steak pizza. Lots of sweet and caramel malt and hints of smoke in aroma, flavor, and finish. The beers are very well done here, the pizza is fantastic, the atmosphere and service first rate. Uncle Tucker's is a real gem of a place, and the next time, I'll be getting a room at the Inn attached an staying the whole night! An awesome brewpub/pizza experience, a trek an pizza and beer lover should make.

What a great unexpeced find! My wife and I were on a trip from Annapolis, MD to West Virginia, and I just pulled of the road to Uncle Tucker's because I did not want typical road trip fast food.

Chalk this review up to the "life isn't fair" column. My wife and I live in Fredericksburg, VA, now a suburb of Washington, DC, that has a regional population of 200K, and no brewpub. So, then there's the remote, lightly populated Cumberland, Maryland area with Uncle Tuckers Brew House. Not only is it a brewpub, but it is a good brewpub. Ryan the brewer is producing great to good beers on what appears to be a 3bbl Century Mfg system! The Scottish was a good example of a 90s Export, good porter, and an oatmeal stout that was smooth and complimented the really good wood fired pizza. Too bad that we still had four more hours to travel because we could have stayed for several more beers. We'll be back.

Everything about Uncle Tucker's is awesome, especially the beer! Sunday is $1 a pint beer day, what a deal! It is nice to know that Uncle Tucker's also has an attached motel at a reasonable price. One can relax and enjoy the beer, and not worry about driving. This is a great place to get away from the hustle of the Washington, D.C., area, well worth the two hour drive to enjoy the excellent brew and food! When going to Pittsburgh, enjoy the scenic 'American Highway', and stop at Uncle Tucker's for awesome beer and meals. You can always bring back a growler; however, it is wise to bring your own container as they were out when we stopped in at June. This is a wonderful place for anyone who loves microbrew beer!!!

This is not your average run of the mill experience... We caught Tucker's while traveling the scenic 'America's Highway' - as opposed to the PA turnpike on the way from DC to Pittsburgh..
Tucker's is easy to miss if you are driving too fast, but sits right next to the interstate...
This is one of those odd places that has environment, history, fine food, good service and good beer, all in one.
The menu has various entres as well as a line of wood fired pizzas. The meal prices are on the side of very cheap considering the quality of the products they serve.
The salad we ordered was fresh and contained no filler, lots of greens. Their pizza can stand it's own against anyones.... The gentleman who waited on us was excellent, great timing and attention to detail, even going as far as to make recommendations and getting the chef to mix up a vegetarian friendly sauce...
After all of that and a (6) 5 oz variety beer sampler, I was sorry I didn't have more room to give desert a try.
If Tucker's were local, I would be a regular.
STOP HERE!

This place had everything...the charm of a restored 19th century building, a great selection of brews, wonderful service and amazingly low cost drinks and food. I had the summer wheat (was good) while my companion had the sampler (only $4 for 6 5 oz brews). The server offered to vary one of the entree specials to make it non-meat based and then brought out the sauce specially made by the chef for me to taste. This level of service is rare! The salad was dark and fresh and the entree was great. We also had a thin crust pizza, which was good at well. I highly recommend a stop here. Outdoor seating is available and there is a hotel that is a short stumble away.

Was at Uncle Tuckers during the weekend of August 23rd for a Maryland State Chili Cookoff and Blues Festival. Friday night just stopped for taste with my wife. we got the sampler and i just feel in love with the Scottish Ale. Strong with a hint of smoke flavor it immediately caught my attention. I also enjoyed the Pale Ale they had though it could have been a bit more hopped for my likings (but i am just nit picking about that). My wife got a golden ale which was nicely light and a very drinkable beer. She also got a weizen (her favorite) and i must admit it was a hit. Nice cloves and banana flavors. Honestly i can't remember anything tasting bad there. Had the crab dipp as an appitizer and it was most tasty. The next night when we were at the Blues Festival across the road we decided to go back for dinner. We got a Brick Oven Pizza with lots of toppings and was not disappointed. Oh by the way i just stayed with the Scottish Ale and it was better the second night. Would recommend and as someone who was born and raised in Cumberland it gives me a stomping grounds when i visit.

Stopped off for lunch sat down in the basement portion of the restaurant which was like a underground pub. The pizza was good and I did enjoy the Scottish Ale, but some of the others lacked character, but all-in-all it was good.
