I'm at Rolands almost every Friday night. It's a nice place that has something for everyone. Downstairs plays hip-hop music on weekend nights & upstairs you can listen to what you want on the jukebox while playing darts or pool. The bartenders are AWESOME!, but as mentioned before the management needs to get it's act together!

Well I finally went back to Roland's. Visited on 11/19 during the later evening expecting the Roland's I use to know.
It appears however that Roland's is taking that nosedive motion taken by place already shuttered.
Arrived at Roland's and found 2-3 door folks along with a Pittsburgh police officer manning the door. Wondering where I now was I braved onward. What I found was a loud rap-music filled place with 20-somethings drinking and standing in place. Lacking oxygen and a colder temperature I trekked upstairs and found pretty much the same. 20-somethings drinking macro beers and five cigarette people trying to get me smoking their crack.
Ordered a Chimay small red bottle and left soon after.
I guess Roland's now wants to be what Metropol was. What a shame.

Great beer selection - tons of microbrews and imports in bottles, however I've noticed that the majority of people who go here drink the mass produced swill beers, so some of these good beers sit on the shelf getting stale. Draught selection is pretty good. Service is atrocious from the waitstaff, but good from the bartenders (esp. the Irish guy - he's on top of things at all times and very friendly). Food is decent - good pizzas and seafood. Overall it's one of the better places in the Strip District - but well below Kaya, Church Brew Works. Turns into a meat market late Friday night.

Great beer selection,it was very warm, when it finally arrived. The bread was served without a plate and when we asked for one the waitress copped an attitude. The salad was awful, as was the steak. It was very greasy, no flavor and full of gristle. The vegetables wer very mushy. The coffee had been sitting around for hours before being served. The bathrooms were filthy. When we decided to ask for the manager (which we have never done prior to this, he couldn't have cared less. having read all of the reviews prior to writing this it seems that it will fall on deaf ears. They plain just do not care what the public thinks. What a shame i used to dine here frequently. Never again, as there are really good places to eat in Pittsburgh.

Roland's may seem appealing to the eye, but it is DISGUSTING. The owner, Paul Carrozzi is a loud mouth idiot who has NO idea what he is talking about. The place is run by a bunch of morons and the stupidity only starts at the top. If you are craving a draft from a place that never changes the tap lines and you really want food poisoning, give this place a shot. People who don't know good food or a good atmosphere think it is the best place in the burgh!

The place is Just OKay... Loud music, expensive "Strip District" location. Does not really compare to Pittsburgh other "awesome" beer bars.

I used to work in the Strip district of Pittsburgh and know this place well. Although there many "unusal" restaurnats on the Srrip, this is the best of the normal restaurants. They are close to the three major seafood distributers in the area and have the best raw bar in Pittsburgh. The beer selection is fantastic but you have to go upstairs to get the biggest selection. Most of the beertendrs will give you a small sample of the drafts if you are unsure about a selection.

My sisters and I were visiting from Toledo, Ohio of all places. Our server was very helpful and accommodating. The filet mignon sandwich was superb and KUDOS on the swordfish salad—sans French fries (what is up with you Pittsburghians?). The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable and the bar tenders were informative on highlights of the town. Thanks Roland’s!

We visited Roland's again finally just yesterday... Happened to visit right after the weather turned and the area got smacked by a macro burst... read big wind storm... The outside patio was wet and the lighting/heating lamps were mangled... It cleared up and the staff whiped everythign down and the outdoor fun continued.
Roland's is one of the few places with a good location and a well suited above street outdoor seating area where you can people watch.
Now about Roland's.. its in the Strip District... A walkable distance from downtown.
Upstairs is where you should go for beer... its a wide open space with a 4 sided very large bar...
Friday happy hour events seem to be popular here...
I had an Ommegang brew... and a few Belgians... good stuff...
I managed only to jointly pick at a chicken nacho mound.. .it was fresh, straight forward and filling...
Rolland's is well worth checking when in Pittsburgh... They have a very large wooden display cooler at the end of the bar on the second floor.. I recommend giving it a look before ordering your beer..

I was a little concerned when I walked in because I had read the reviews of several hundred beers, but I didn't see much. Go upstairs! There's more food choices downstairs but the beer variety is upstairs. They have a tremendous selection of quality imports and domestic micros. Our bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. Don't miss this place if you're in the area.

I don't think I've ever seen so many beers under one roof in my life--including liquor stores and beer distributors. Their beer menu reads like a Who's Who of the beer industry. Ever heard of such-and-such a beer? it's on the menu. NEVER heard of such-and-such a beer? well, it's on the menu too. The food was delicious and filling. The unfortunate dark side to my visit was the absolutely appalling service service we received. Our waitress would come by in 20- to 30-minute intervals; the person who seated us told us we could order beer from the downstairs bar and have it brought upstairs, which the server then refused to do; more than once the server messed up our order; they tried to overcharge us by $40; and to top it off, when I went to the manager on duty, she frequently interrupted me while I was trying to air my grievences and then told me I was being unreasonable when I asked that I be allowed to finish a sentence. I didn't think it's too much to ask that I get my order right, it be brought out before next Thursday, and my bill be added up correctly. The management apparently did. It is too bad that our service was so wretched as to prohibit our return to an otherwise fine place.

This is the only place that I have ever found Pilsener Urquell on tap, and it was mighty fine. Their baked oysters Asiago were great too.

Rolands has a selection of over 900 beers. Two levels of bar and restaurant, great seafood, and bands every Friday and Saturday.
