Beer Quality Beer Selection Food Service Overall
Great Great Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
The food is perhaps the most satisfying in central NJ, expensive, minimally $25 per person including two beers and tip, more if you like to eat a lot. It has a uniformly terrific kitchen. They usually have a fine Flying Fish and other beers mentioned below. The beer is served too cold; ask for an unchilled mug and it will be cheerfully given; otherwise you get a frozen, wet mug, yuck. The whole establishment, bar and restaurant, is non-smoking so with the sublime kitchen the place smells good. Perhaps smoking is permitted at outdoor tables. The bartenders are as good as it gets. I have been attending for many years and never had a bad experience.

Beer Quality Beer Selection Food Service Overall
Awesome! Great N/A Good Great
First, let's set expectations properly: Beer is not the focus of Main Street. But neither is it intended to be. Rather, this establishment is a comfortable sidewalk bistro that just happens to carry a very healthy little tap list. So while you won't find a mug club, a Meet-The-Brewer Night, or a bar full of well-travelled fellow beer pilgrims to trade stories with, you will find Fuller's ESB, Yard's ESA, Paulner Hefeweizen, Tupper's Hop Pocket, Corsendonk Brown, Dogfish Head Pale, Guinness Stout, and Anchor Steam on tap. In other words, Main Street serves quality beer as if serving quality beer were simply the norm. And isn't that the way it really oughta be everywhere?

Though I haven't yet eaten here, the food is reputed to be quite good and seems priced reasonably. Drink prices run a bit higher than I'm used to - but then I'm not used to buying my brews at a Princeton address. Service is pleasant and reasonably well-informed about their offerings, though you might need to issue an occasional friendly reminder when your glass gets light.
