stayed here two nights...noisy but fun Went to 13 brewpubs/breweries in one week 4/29-5/6, so I cannot write too much for each one, but "Beervanna" is the appropriate name for Portland. Every BP, beerbar we went to was top notch and friendly with great to awesome beers and service with few exception- the ones filled with smoke. But overall, compared to east coast, Portland is THE place for real beer lovers to spend at least a week. And we only did 2 McMenamins. Fly to Portland, grab an offcial beer map, hop on public transit (every BP was on a bus/tram/train line or a short walk) and have a beer blast!

This historic old tavern, another member of the McMenamin family, also serves as a music venue and a hotel. The tavern, really a funky saloon reminiscent of a Jack London story, is dominated by a long bar stretching along one side all the way to the back, where one can find the stage for the abovementioned music venue. Like all McMs, the White Eagle offers the same beers - I tried the "Black Rabbit" porter while here. If you're on a pubcrawl, this place is about a 2-minute walk (or stumble) from Widmers (see my review for that wonderful place). The White Eagle is interesting for the ambience and the local color.

My dad makes the best fries and I enjoy making Maxturd, which is mustard and vinegar mixed. A great fry sauce!

Had luch there with a group. Food was great as usual. However, the beer cooler was on the fritz and the beer was slightly warmer than usual. The measure of a great beer is being able to drink it English style. The IPA, Hammerhead, Porter and Terminator were all great.
How I miss the West Coast.
