A great place to go. A home away from home atmosphere. Lots of cute boys and girls-artsy, punk, and rock n' roll!

Favorite stop in Park Slope - I find the staff friendly & the Youngs Choco Stout or Ramstein Dark Wheat superior. No food - bring in some take away - The Chip Shop does decent fish & chip. Take a walk in the park & pull up a stool. Mets fans only.

Bloody lovely boozer! The closest i've found in the NY metro area to a real pub except they have a bigger beer & Scotch selection! Bartenders spend time talking you though the selections & giving tastes before you buy. This place is the tops.

I wouldn't be as dismissive as the first reviewer, but the service here can be pretty sour depending on who's behind the bar. Unlike the other beer bars in Brooklyn (my fave is Sparky's, but that doesn't have whiskey), the people who work here seem cold and perfunctory. No one is eager to discuss the new beers or give you tips; most of the time you can't even get a hello or goodbye. My first choice will always be Sparky's or Waterfront or even Brazen Head (and dba in Manhattan, of course), but if the weather's good this is a great location and the beer is always in excellent condition with plenty of interesting seasonals. You can also bring in food or even have it delivered; I sometimes call the Chip Shop a few blocks away and pretend I'm in England.
It's too bad whoever owns this place doesn't think more about creating a warm atmosphere.

No idea what that first review is on about. I had a very pleasant little session at The Gate. Turned out the bartender and I knew someone in common, even though I live in Philly! Service was good even before that, and the beer selection was good, and the two beers I had were very fresh. Great place to hang out in the afternoon.

A great place to go hang out and have a few pints of GoodBeer. Bartenders are smart and friendly, beer is reasonably priced for NYC and boasts an above-average selection, with Brooklyn of course being represented and plenty of other good micros available. No food, but there's a menu folder available (highly recommend the fish & chip shop a couple blocks away). Spare, dark space with some outdoor seating available IIRC. Even if they're not affiliated with Blind Tiger, the Gate's beer tastes line up favorably with them.

Run by the same folks as Blind Tiger in Manhattan, except here the bartenders know nothing about the beer and are generally indifferent, and you can't get tastes of anything. It's a lousy place, really, except in summer when the outdoor seating at least is pleasant.
