picked up some canned Brew Free or Die IPA while on a trip to New England, can says it's from TN so I'm guessing they have it contract brewed and canned. Not a bad IPA but not as good as most I have tried, maybe because it's canned (haven't had a canned beer in years)? Have some Back in Black to try when I get home!

Didn't get awesome just because I was there with the Giants game crowd and it kind of limited what could have been a fanstastic visit.
This was the last place I visited while in SF. Stopped by on my way to the airport just before a Sunday Giant's game. The pregame crowd is wonderful. It limits the service though.
The overflow from brunch has to sit in the upper level with no order taking available. That means if you chose to sit upstairs, you have to order your beer and food at the bar and someone will bring it to you; a very minor inconvenience.
The fish tostadas were suprisingly very good. I don't know why they serve the tacos with pork but not the tostadas. One (tostadas) is an appitizer while the other is a main menu item.
Not all the beers mentioned on their website are readily available. In fact, I would fair to guess only 1/3.
I tried the Watemellon Wheat based on Elan's recommendation, who i met a few days earlier at Speakeasy. I was pleasantly suprised. I am not a wheat beer drinker. The watermellon taste does come through in the beer. Very similar to a lemon affect.
The Brew Free IPA and the Double Trouble are excellant.
I'll be back

Good joint = very laid back pleasant atmosphere. Good range of interesting brews - all pretty much spot on, though the beers here ere a bit on the lighter side - not at the cost of making a bad beer, just a bit more conservative than some of the brewers in the industry.
Nice to see a Rye beer on tap and they did a good job with it. Red was fine. The Bitter American is a nice change of pace - a classic session beer with a lot of hopping. Great for hop heads who don't want the alcohol of the traditional IPA. IPA was good -again a bit less aggressive than the norm but by no means bad. Porter nailed a style that others miss frequently.
Food was good as well.
I'll be back.

Stopped in for a couple of pints last night. I tried their regular IPA & their Double IPA. They both were very hoppy and had a smooth finish. I Sat at the bar and met a couple of regulars that drive a great distance just to get their favorite local pint of microbrew. The service was great. I didn't try any of their food, but the people at the bar raved over their pizza. Who doesn't when you're drinking beer! Anyhow I also strongly recommend this place if you're ever in the Bay Area.

I visited San Francisco recently from Michigan and I always try to vist as many local brewpubs as I can while traveling. (I've been to almost 200). This one was a little disappointing as far as the beers go. I had no problem at all with the food or service. The beers in my opinion were overall somewhat weak and bland. The one I did enjoy was Brew-Free or Die IPA. That was very good. Some of the others that I had that were only so-so were Trumer Pils, the watermelon ale, 563 Stout, 8th Anniversary Wheat, Schweick's English Mild and the Pomegranate Cider. Overall, a good place in a good location near the ball park. Just not so great with the beer.

I visited this brewpub on 5/5/08 and had the following brews; Trumer Pils, Watermelon Wheat, Wit & Wisdom, Bitter American, North Star Red, Drakes IPA, General Peppo's Porter, and Two Rivers Pomegranate Cider. This place was my favorite SF brewpub for this trip. Although I am a hophead, I still enjoy flavored wheats. I was quite amused and suprised by the watermelon wheat. Pomegranates also seem to be popular this year with west coast brewers. I will be back to this place.

One of my favorites SF brewpubs. The beers are great, the food is awesome. They used to hold "beer school" on Tuesday nights to teach about one beer style. The brewer and owner really know beer. Sometimes the beer selection is a little low, but everything is good. I love the IPA the best.

Awesome beer. Their 21st A IPA has 75 IBU and has so much taste. They had a sea bass that was also excellent. Service and decor are really good.

Great quality beer (IPA was very tasty), good food (pizza and burgers on this trip), and overall good pub atmosphere. Service was quick and efficient, if not especially friendly the two times we were in. Maybe because we weren't locals? Pub is divided into a seat yourself bar section, and a sit down dining section. Well worth the trek into SOMA as a destination.

Good beers, but nothing stands out in my mind. The IPA was great, well-hopped. The Watermelon Wheat was good, something I haven't had. Brought home a six pack of Watermelon Wheat, but didn't want more than one can in a sitting. Grew tired of the flavor. Was there right after a Giants game, so the place was absolutely packed with drunken fans. Bright atmosphere, nice patio.

Once again, good beer trumps medicore food and service. That seems to be a recurring theme with a lot of brewpubs I find. The service wasn't awful, just not the friendly kind I'm used to in the South. And the food was in line with a high school cafeteria. Edible, but not memorable.
Ahh, but the beer! The pale ale and blond were good. But what stood out was the stout, IPA and the watermelon wheat. The IPA was as good as I have had (and I love IPAs). I usually shun fruity beers but the watermelon wheat was fantastic! I was only there on a short trip but why oh why didn't I find a way to bring back some cans of those two?!

Just had my first experience at 21st Amendment. This place is on busy 2nd Street within sight of the ballpark, although just far enough away to discourage the weak from stumbling in. For the SF-initiated, the location is right across the street from South Park, which is not to be confused with the popular cartoon on TV. Or, maybe it is. Dunno. South Park is where the ultra-cool dot commies used to hang when they still had jobs, and hey, walking through there I saw a few left. They may not have jobs any more, but they have a GREAT brewpub. I was there for a late lunch on a busy Monday, sat at the bar, got the basic West Coast IPA (7.2) and a plate of calamari. Excellent. They also had the double IPA available (10.2, "limit 2 per customer" said the sign) but since I had business I had to pass -- however I will go back tomorrow night and check out the double and the effect of a Giants night game during a pennant race. The service was SOMA all the way, frowning young women with attiitude. You will love it, best IPA in the City, and best bay area brew outside of Marin/Sonoma.

This is one of those places where timing is everything. On weekdays, finding parking can be an adventure. If the Giants are in town, getting a beer can be a challenge. Fortunately I didn't have to face either of these dilemmas. They had seven brews and a hard cider on tap to go along with a full bar. Had a pint each of the T.B.N Blonde Bock(6.5%), Phoenix IPA(6.9%) and the Oyster Point Oyster Stout(5.9%). All were good. Even though I'm not a big IPA fan the Phoenix gave me a better understanding of the word "hoppy" and the color, almost like a pink chablis, was cativating. Loved the Oyster Stout. Not a whole lot of choices on the food menu but what they had sounded good. Had a Reuben sandwich with a house salad. The Reuben was good and the salad was great. Not your standard iceberg lettuce with a tomato wedge. salad. All in all, a good time. And casual conversations with a few others around me that were from Chicago and Baltimore proves that 21st Amendment is on the list of brewpubs to visit while in The City. Just wish they'd put Red,Brown or Amber on the brew list.

This is a great place to have a few beers before watching a Giants baseball game, aside from that it is not worth going out of your way to visit. At $4.75 the pints are the most expensive of the San Fran breweries I visited, but they are about half the price of a domestic beer inside the ballpark. The Oyster Point Oyster Stout is great. Unfortunately the upstairs loft had no table service and only one person was pouring beer, so don't visit when you are exceptionally thirty. The onion rings are delicious. Overall this was one of my least favorite SF breweries.

The beer is great, the location is kind of nice too, but for me it is a little too lively. I had to push my way up to the bar and then good luck getting a sampler.

Styles are not too risky: Pale, Golden,IPA, and Stout, but none were bad. They offered a Pomegranate Cider which looked interesting, but was brewed by another establishment.I chose the IPA for my growler.

Terrific! I just tried their Holiday Spiced ALE WOW 5 Stars. I purchased a case to give out as Xmas gifts. I had also their Pork Chops. Another great dinner at 21A! Met a great guy named Ken Hartoonian and he was doing a magic act on making beer disapear. So 21A also provides wonderful entertainment. A must stop if you come to the city!

Stopped by for a few late one night just before closin' her down.
Quality of the beer was very good. Not a whole lot to choose from but the quality offsets that.
Never had food and the service could have been better.
Definately doesn't get my two mugs up, but I'd give it a mug & a quarter.

They had a solid 4 samples. I am still not sure on the style of Batch 300 but I thought all 4 beers were excellent and the Blonde perhaps the most pleasing as I usually don't even like the lightest brewpub offering. My seared ahi salad was amazing. My wife's chicken was perhaps overcooked dropping my food rating. Definitely worth a pull on the tap or a return trip.

I almost missed going to this pub and endured a long, crazy ride on the number 15 bus afterwards, but it was well worth it. Their IPA is simply fabulous. They even have a strong "malt liquor" type brew that proved surprisingly tasty. A fine argument against Prohibition!!
