Went to Boston last year on vacation and had read about this place here and decided to give it a shot - went back a second time for another round. This is the type of bar I wish we had in our neighborhood! The bartender was super friendly and the food was pub grub at it's best. Will go back when we visit Boston again :)

I've only been here twice - got 2 different experiences...first time the bartender was a little snubbish to us - hey we were just having fun and spinning the beer wheel of indecision - the second time our server was fine until we wanted our check and she disapppeared for 15 min. Overall thought I can't complain. Beer was icy cold (they way I like it) Great selection and listed pretty well in the book. Didnt' try the food yet, but there is always next time. Prices were in great on everything.

Bukowski's Tavern is the definitive "hole-in-the-wall" working class tavern. It has some historical significance given the parking garage apparently built around it (as opposed to just demolitioning it); one can understand this. Consisting of a dark, well-worn bar opposite several small windows overlooking I90, this tavern offers an excellent selection of beer (tap and bottle), including Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter and Fuller's. They also serve a pretty decent burger. In any case, a must-stop when in Boston. There is a newer location at Inman Square in Cambridge (though I did not visit, so I cannot review). Incidentally, Bukowski's is a cash only experience, or as the menu reads: "In God We Trust, Cash Only." (I think they meant to say: In God We Trust. All Others Pay In Cash.) But I digress....

A small place but fairly good beer selection, the food here is just so so. The location in Cambridge is much better imho.

Bukowski's is an old-time working man's bar incongruously placed in the middle of the Back Bay convention hotel area. About a dozen taps with none dispensing anything unusual, hence the lack of an awesome rating. There are about 100 bottle choices including Chimay. Good bar food including sandwiches and burgers. In reply to an earlier reviewer: the City of Boston's online restaurant health inspection reports didn't note anything of real concern here. The same cannot be said of many of the high-priced and famous dining places in the area. Check for yourself. Worth a stop, especially if you've never been in an old-time neighborhood bar.

I waited for years for the smoking ban to take effect. Now Bukowski is high on my list of "must-visit" bars when we're headed out for a few pints. The friendliest, most unpretentious staff, arguably Boston's best beer selection, and the feel of a neighborhood dive you've visited hundreds of times even on your maiden visit. You can't go wrong in a place with 99 beer varieties and White Trash Cheese Dip on the menu!

Best Beer Bar in Boston. Very unique staff and kick ass music. They just opened another Bukowski in Cambridge, Inman Square, where you can join the Dead Authors Mug Club. Check it out!!

DO NOT under any circumstances eat the food! I was sick for days! The place is filthy (try not to notice the undersides of the tables) and the music was overly loud and overly bad. Small, noisy, dirty and unpleasant!

Great beer selection, very good food. Staff always make me feel welcome and at home. I have been to many different bars in Boston and this is my favorite. Bit of a niche bar, however, but to each their own. I love this place. Dear me, I just hope the staff isn't getting sick of me.

If you like loud punk rock you'll be in heaven. Foods really good, but the beer selection and the dark, dress down atmosphere is what keeps me coming back.

I LOVE this place, though it is kind of small. And why don't they serve Steinlager? That brew is the best beer on Earth, and I can't find it at any bar in Boston. I love devouring their salmon burger with pesto... that flavor combination truly tickles my pleasure gland, hallejulah.

29 taps and a cask, very nice selection, gets points for not being heavily weighted to the pale ales and IPAs, even though that's my preference. A good, very pub-like room. Why the so-so overall rating? The room is much too dark, and the music is way, way too loud--and really, really bad. Please tell me those weren't demos from Berklee students. I guess this forty-something is just too out of it...I grow old, I grow old, I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled. Do I dare to drink a pĂȘche?

If I lived in Boston, this would be one of those places you could find me at.
I can agree with other reviewers about the staff and their personalities. Kevin who tends bar is about as wired as you can get, always going the distance to entertain and full of antics that could cause some folks to do a double take...
This place reminds me of http://www.pubcrawler.com/Template/ReviewWC.cfm/flat/BrewerID=103166">Gooski's in Pittsburgh.
Bukowski's is conviently located right behind the Prudential mall complex (Hynes convention center is there). So if you are staying at the Hilton or Sheraton its a block walk.
What makes this place cool: 1) large beer seclection including a vintage beer list... I tried a Burton's Bridge from the vintage list.. good stuff..
2) Vegetarian selections... very original meatball veggie sandwich... yummy
3) Can't make a decision about what beer to drink, spin the beer wheel of indecision...
4) Bring your CD's they will play a track... Some Indian gents had a Bhangara CD playing while I ate...
A must stop place with lots of personlity and no pretencious behavior...

I stumbled into this bar one night and found over 120 different beers available in bottles. They also had 15 different beers on tap. The bartender Kevin was extremely knowledgable and was the perfect host!!!
