As reported here:
"A change of name but not a change of hats. Previously Aberdeen Brewing Company, the Artist Place Eatery & Pub opened the same doors January 7th of this year with a new paint job, wine & martini lounge, and a focus on local artwork. With the high cost of repairing brewery equipment, the owner decided to change the focus of the eatery."

Paid a flying visit to the Aberdeen, great food, ales, & stout, very friendly in a real oldie pub atmosphere, definite scottish feeling to this place. A little pricey but you get what you pay for, wiil be returning soon for some more Scotch eggs & Thistle sticks, awesome. Tony & Kat O'Connor Chesterton Indiana,09/05/2004

Fantastic food, and good service with a nice outdoor seating area. They have a good selection of beer, and a couple of selections are quite good, but most are okay. The porter is very nice -- toasted caramel and chocolate with a smooth finish. The stout is more oatmeal than anything else. The English Pale Ale finishes well, but the other Pale Ales were just okay. The Millenium isn't bad, with a crisp finish and citrus taste. I'd go back, but for the food, and I likely wouldn't take home a growler.

Good beers, in that they were all clean. Most were a bit out of style -- I was told that the brewer is now gone, and they are ceasing brewing operations. The 10 barrel system, 4 fermenters and 8 bright tanks are all for sale. Too bad.

I enjoyed the atmosphere at the establishment. The beer was good and there was an adequate selection. However, there was no bitter availible. The food was good and the service was exceptional.

Really enjoyed my first visit here. The staff was extremely friendly. Good selection of beer, IPA and American too were good. The only disappointment was my food, the spinich ravioli looked very good but tasted rubbery and three days old. Couldn't eat it but the server was so pleasant I couldn't complain about it either. My friend's fish dinner was very good though, I know because I ate half of it. The appetizers were excellant, especially the crab dip. Will be back soon to try the rest of the beers.

It was my first visit, and they had the normal selection, except there was an American Pale Ale in place of the India Pale Ale. It was great. They also had their first attempt at a lager, and while I usually do not like the generic taste of most lagers, this was excellent. Not the bland flavor of anything I have had at other brew pubs. Get the sampler, there is something for everyone on the beer menu.

http://www.aberdeenbrewingco.com/ they have a website that is helpful. If this place has beer as good as the big brother in Lafayette, it has to be good.

i am very pleased with the menu selection, both food and beer. this years barley wine was a great change from last year's but needs alittle refining.....keep an eye out for it next season.....the baby spinach salad is always a fave of mine, not to mention the scotch eggs, my god are they a perfect choice for heavy consumers of pale ales.......the staff is one of the friendliest i've ever had serve me......shouts out to sam and barry for one great night of dining.

I really enjoyed the food, especially the Scotch Eggs appetizer. The menu, though not extraordinary, had some nice options, and I look forward to trying some other dishes in the future. The beer was disappointing, but okay. The main beers (including a Pale Ale and a Scottish Ale), all had a subtle acidy kind of taste that all you beer experts could probably identify. If they could clear that problem up, I think the beers would have been pretty good. The two seasonals, IPA and Barleywine, did not have the acidy taste. Both were good beers but very short on hops. I will give them another chance on the beer, because I got the impression that they will be very good if they can work out some of the kinks.

Very nice building and equiptment but the beer lacks body and character. Food is worth going for. Don't expect the wait-staff to give any specific answers for the brewing process or ingrediants.

Upscale-typ BP located in a golf-course community. Better than average beers--IPA could be hoppier, Porter more robust, but beers show promise and will improve with time, I'm sure. Excellent food. Non-smoking dining room--smoking allowed only in bar. Patio in front usually open for dining.

Aberdeen Brewing is finally, as of May 7, open. The bartender informed me that Greg Emmick (sp?) from Lafayette Brewing is training the head brewer, but the beers (only four right now) are not yet up to Lafayette's quality. Aberdeen's lightest style, described as a rye, was just too bland. The scotch ale was OK/good. The amber ale very good (more like a scotch ale than the scotch ale). The porter was too thin/watery, had no head, and no "roastiness" or chocolate notes. But I think there is great potential here--hopefully just working out bugs in new equipment and hurrying to get beers ready for opening. Food was excellent, and kitchen/waitstaff were struggling mightily and mostly successfully to keep up with an overflow Friday night crowd. A couple of vegetarian options. Dining room is total non-smoking, smoking OK in bar. Very pretty surroundings (too light and open for my taste in BPs) will be enjoyed by many. Definitely worth checking out and hopefully beer--which is not bad now--will improve with experience.
