I was in Houston on biz and discovered the FS on Pubcrawler. The prior month I'd patronized their Austin location, which was my 1st contact. They really have their act together; the beer list - updated quarterly - is deep, rich and extensive - is an embarrassment of riches. When I travel I always opt for the local brews, so I had a 512 IPA and a St. Arnold's, both of which were grand brews. The FS kitchen really puts out great work, too; I had the salad which was tasty and well presented. Finally - and this is a big deal if you, like me have suffered poor service at craft beer outlets - FS has selected and trained their staff to be sure - no matter how busy they are - to acknowledge and serve their patrons as if they were the only one. They really shine at that and wherever I travel, if there's a FS around, I'll be at the bar.

This place has more taps and bottles than you can shake a stick at, the problem is, it's usually so busy you have no room to shake much of anything. Perhaps a victim of its own success.
Seriously, the beer selection really is awesome, with more than 60 taps and a couple hundred bottles, you can find a little of everything there.
Food is decent, although the menu is sort of limited. Granted we go there to drink and not eat, but why not add a few more things onto the menu?
Some reviewers have complained about the service. I sort of agree. It's not that the servers are unhelpful or rude, it's that the place is so full they're usually too busy. I like to sit at the bar itself, but when you have only 2 people pouring drinks for the bar and all of the other tables and stools, somethings got to give. Nothing is worse than when you the barback brings out your food and sets it on the back counter just out of your reach, and it takes 5-10 minutes for the barmaid to get back down to your end of the bar and give it to you.
Overall I really enjoy this place a lot, I just wish sometimes they had more help.

The beer selection in this place is good, but the service is lousy. And it wasn't just on one occassion, that the food has been cold and that my friends and I have waited 15-30 minutes for the next beer. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.
My friend wants you to know that the management can be very hostile and over protective of the waotresses.
Also this place is a sausage fest.

Amazing selection of beer. Was eventually helped with a $2.50 all local beer day and some fine advise from the staff.Found both bar staff and wait staff very helpful. Whole area appeared immaculate but I was there during daylight! Worth a visit.Cheers

I made the drive from West Houston to see if my brew club wanted to make the trip for a beer tasting. The selection of beer was good but not "Awesome". Quantity does not equate to quality. There were a lot of good beers that were represented and too many that were overpriced. Yes, I know the pricing schema I was partners in a pub. But $30 for a bottle of mead? $7-8 bucks for a 11.5 oz bottle of belgian? The place and atmosphere were nice, but not at all what I expected by the name. Flying Saucer? I expected retro 50's chrome and glass glitz, not mediocre british pub. Service was good, the bartender was hospitable and somewhat knowledgable of the beers. Food was good, great german wurst. All in all I won't be going back. The trouble and cost of finding parking, and the long scenic stroll from the parking lot: an army of indigents, filthy sidewalks, feces smeared glass, panhandlers, oh yes, a real delight. I would definitely not go there after dark if I were a single woman. I'll stick to the Gingerman in Rice Village or other more accessible venues.

waitress girls were very rude. When I tried to order a shot for my friend who just got engaged the girl didnt pay attention to me because she wanted to close out her tabs. I asked the next girl I found if I could order a shot and if she could bring it to him; she proceded to say that only birthdays are celebrated at the bar. I am very dissatisfied with the service.

Went here back in December of 04, while on business. What a diamond in the rough. This place has an excellent selection of taps (~75) that is on par, if not more than Falling Rock in Denver, CO. Food was decent, but thats not why you come here. Bartenders were great. Get the build-your-own sampler and enjoy.

For over a year now, my brother and I along with a small group of friends have been loyal customers of Flying Saucer. I love the drinks, (they have the biggest selection of ciders I have ever seen), and I love the girls in their cute skirt outfits. They're always so nice. It's a great place to hang out in the company of friends. The bassist and drummer of the Astra Heights will always support it. I'm out!

Because of the saucer's great beer selection I dumped hundreds of dollars over the past couple of years here. But nowadays the service has gone downhill and it's almost always too busy. If you're looking for good beer this is the place, just expect an empty glass on your table more often than not!

The Flying Saucer is without a doubt the friendliest pub that I have been in. Staff are all fantastic and the bar ladies are Angels that pour beer. A definite must when in Houston..

If you want the G-Man attitude, don't go to the Saucer. No only is their beer selection much better, but the staff is much more knowledgeable and friendly... plus the beer goddesses all wear short skirts!!!!

Unbelieveable beer selection on tap. If they don't have it, they will try to get it. I didn't try the food yet. It is worth a little to visit this establishment in downtown. Nice looking, yet beer-knowledgeable waitresses.

This is the newest of the Flying Saucer Draught Emporiums, which began in the Dallas-Ft. WOrth area and have spread to a few other southern cities. Like the others that I have visited, this location in downtown Houston features a long wall of taps pouring a great variety of beers, and plates decorating the entire place. Since the Flying Saucer is within walking distance of Enron Field, we stopped in before an Astros game. Our server told us that we could exchange our Astros ticket stubs for a free pint after the game, so we did just that.
