I stopped by O.C. following a Sunday hike in the foothills of Golden. [Golden City was closed! Next time, I'll get there on a Saturday] I had a Left Hand Sawtooth and a Boulder Brewing Hazed and Confused. Their splendid on-tap selection offers numerous and rich tasting opportunties. The menu has lots of good offerings as well; I had the pizza/salad combo which went well with the beer. Good service, too. When you're at this part of town, don't hesistate to stop by!

I visited this Old Chicago location again last weekend, and I thought it would be interesting to compare the draft beer selection I found this time with that which I reported two years ago. So here was the breakdown on the 30 taps: four megabrewer lagers…enough said; four predictable European imports…enough said; a cider; five widely distributed craft beers: Blue Moon Belgian White, Shiner Bock, Anchor Liberty, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Redhook Winterhook…leaving 16 taps for Colorado microbrews. Here was the lineup: Singletrack Ale, Buffalo Gold, Hazed and Infused, and Mojo IPA from Rockies Brewing; 90 Shilling and Easy Street Wheat from Odell Brewing; Fat Tire and 1554 Black Ale from New Belgium, Sawtooth ESB and Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing; Brown Ale and Raspberry Wheat from Twisted Pine Brewing, Breckenridge Christmas Ale, Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown, and Flying Dog Doggie Style Pale Ale. They had just run out of Full Wood Smoked Porter from Oskar Blues Brewery and had Rockies Brewing’s Never Summer Ale ready to go on next. A solid Colorado microbrew selection, and special pricing on Colorado pints on Friday night, made this a great stop.

This Old Chicago location is right near the Youngfield Street/32nd Street exit of I-70 in west surburban Denver. It is really best accessed from 32nd street. There is a restaurant to one side and a bar section with a nice patio area on the other side. There are about 30 taps, with an excellent representation of craft beer from Colorado and the Pacific Northwest. In mid-January, the drafts included Buffalo Gold, Boulder Igloo and Singletrack from Rockies Brewing, 90 Shilling, Easy Street Wheat and Isolation Ale from Odell, Fat Tire and 1554 from New Belgium, Lefthand Blackjack Porter, Railyard Ale, one from the Denver Chop House, Oasis Tut Brown, Blue Moon, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Pyramid Apricot Ale, Red Hook IPA,and Widmer Brothers Winternacht. Additiona taps represent a variety of typical imports and a couple of the standard Coors and A-B choices. Then there are the bottle choices. I stuck with a couple of the winter seasonals, had a great calzone, and watched some playoff football.
