WHERE would they put a 10 piece band? Great pizza and superb beer. Cute bartender Princess Leia. Other guy had a bit of an pissy attitude but was knowledgeable enough and Leia more than made up for it. Enjoyed Old Chub all night, played some pool, and attempted to shoot some darts. Relatively clean for a busy bar and no smoke to speak of.

Wow! This place really was super-cozy snug! I ordered a Sweetwater Hummer, and my life partner had a Tommy Knocker Imperial Nut Brown Ale (made the life partner happy so I'm happy). Not only do they have a pool table and electronic darts, but the night we were there a 10 piece band was playing out back! Just amazing. Later that night the Heineken girls showed up and starting passing out their calendars for free!! Boy, I could sure spend a lot of time there. Give it a whirl!

Trying to find good beer bars in the state of Florida is about as challenging as finding someone who can speak in complete sentences in a trailer park. But....we found a winner out by the interstate.
When we first pulled up to this establishment, around 5 p.m., I wasn't too sure about going inside. The place looked tired, and there weren't too many cars parked outside. But, we entered cautiously.
The place was dimly lit; a few scattered patrons at the bar and outside on the deck. We noticed a board behind the bar with the day's beers hand-written on it. Walla!! If my memory serves me right, there were between 15 and 20 first-class brews on tap (and many bottles). A wide variety of styles including brews by Stone and Rogue.
To avoid the smokers inside, we plopped our bodies out on the deck and enjoyed a fine evening of sampling beers we'd never had before. We'll surely return to this bar the next time we're down in Florida seeking respite from Wisconsin's winters.

Add a photo from the website. Very true to the picture, cozzy snug and the rest of the place has unusual charm. I was there when the inside was almost emmpty but outside at about twnety picnic tables there were tons of people; no fire though. I had a Stoudts Double IPA draft and the wife had a Corona; so yes it is itrue that they are serving regular stuff now (made the wife happy so I'm happy) They had three large coolers with tons of beer visible and a couple of beer engines on the side. Pool table, and electronic darts really round out the place. I could spend hours here! Try it yourself.

The BBQ Chicken pizza is amazing and goes with a tangy IPA better than any cheese & wine pairing I've ever tasted. Great draft selection and all were fresh. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Clean and plesant environment. Little hard to find. In industrial section of town, but good pubs are hard to come by and this is worth seekign out. Tell Tiny sent you!

I stand by my review, and it is indeed authentic. I have no reason not to be objective. Everywhere from MA, have you even visited the Cock & Bull? If not, then how can your review be considered legitimate? In addition, I could not find anything for this pub on www.beersouth.com. Tom Rutledge passed away in 2003. Perhaps it was in better shape when he visited it over 3 years ago?

www.BeerSouth.com 's late Tom Rutledge gave this place a review - now that is an expert with an objective opionion.
Mentioning other places in a review out to be a tipoff that the review is not legititmate.

Let me set you straight; this is one of the most depressing, dirty establishments I've ever walked into. I was there last Friday night at 6:30 with a few friends of mine (First red flag: the parking lot was practically empty). Walk in, see about 6 other people, sit down, wait for service....No waiters, only a bartender who saw us but chose to ignore us. Walked up the bar, and instead of looking at an impressive beer menu, there was a hand written beer list taped to the bar. The beer we ordered was O.K. (my sister's was practically warm...), but we just couldn't get past the dreary atmosphere; it was poorly lit, the floors look like they hadn't seen a broom in forever...the whole place felt as if it had been condemned years ago but they forgot to lock the doors. Food? There was no way in hell I would ever eat there.
Sorry, but there are much cleaner, more cheerful places to enjoy a pint in Sarasota like Shakespeare's English pub - which is where we went to immediately afterwards.

Thanks Tom (RIP). "The C&B is truly a marvel" 450+ beers, mostly bottled of course as 22 are on tap. I had a fabulous hickory smoked pizza with my Ayinger Martzen. This place is fantastic and they know and love beer! Check it out when in Florida.

Cock & Bull is the best, make that only pub, in the Southeast that has earned the right to pour Rogue's anniversary brews for a reason. The service, selection, and atmosphere are all brew-centric. Sounds like sour grapes to me ... did you try and cut someone in line, show off your own beer knowledge or what? The only reason you wouldn't be happy at this pub is if you pissed someone off. Attacking their help is another indication of what you are really lookiing for in a pub - try a bar! And why only one review. I've found this site a week ago and already have plans to enter the three places I frequent in town!

I live at Monk's in Philly and I can tell you I never thought I'd find anythign of that caliber in Florida nevermind Sarasota.
There beer selection rivals those seen in major metropolitan area and the environment is quite chill.
You must check this place otu if you really love beer.

I Saw C n'B in ASN so thought I would check it out. Lucky I didn't go early, they opened at 8 instead of 5PM. Since the bar is in an old house, there is no parking lot and they use the neighbor business lot. Since, as has been mentioned by some other reviews, there is NO beer Menu, it's hard to rate the selection. But on the night I was there, I could definitly say they have the LARGEST barmaid I've ever seen anywhere. Quality of the beer is also hard to judge since I was served a $8 bottle of Bornem Double in plastic cup. No food (limited to pretzels and sausage) was available that night. I guess if you belive the hype, you will go... But I think you'ld be better off going to Geier's @ 7447Tamiami or Whole foods to buy German or Belgium beer and drink at home. Hopefully your house is cleaner the this old one.

In the general beer wasteland known as Florida, this is definitely a bright spot. The focus here is entirely on beer (I would say mostly on selection really). Of particular note is the variety of eastern European beers, but the US, German and Belgian selections are impressive too. My only complaint is the lack of a list (especially in light of the fact that more than half the beers are not displayed). They are supposedly working on this, but in the meantime, make sure you get a seat at the bar if you want to do any perusing.

I'd have to say I'm pretty partial to the Cock n Bull now. They have over 300 beers to choose from. Howie and Dawn (the owners) are AWESOME~! Tom & Travis are great as well~! They have an alchemist club, you have to drink 200 diff beers in 12 months, then you're eligible for discounts, a plack w/ your name and quote, and an "alchemist only" selection of beer not available to the general public. The place has a real "home" feel to it. It will take you straight to old world europe.. I suggest you go RIGHT NOW!

I grew up in Sarasota, and I can honestly say that this bar is one-of-a-kind for the area. BY FAR the best beer selection in town. Unassuming pub atmosphere with unique aspects such as a comfortable "lounge" room, beer garden and bonfire pit with stools made from pony kegs (for that rare chilly Florida night). Don't be dissuaded by the industrial neighborhood, this place is a diamond in the rough. For a second I thought I was back in Bavaria or the UK. Maybe that was the Belgian Chimay or Weissbier altering my perception. Great interesting alternative to the cookie cutter American sports bars like Geckos or Ale House.

Beer cheese dip is incredible with a bavarian pretzel add a beer basted bratwurst and ya got a meal. Beer selection was overwhelming, but our bartender knew her stuff. Cheaper than Saucer on many, more expensive on others - prices seem fair. HARD to find. Call ahead for directions and hours.

Don't know if I would have had a better time with a baby and dog in tow - fortunately for me that situation didn't come up. The C&B is truly a marvel - their current ad touts 450+ beers, mostly bottled of course as only 16-20 are on tap. I saw no wine or liquor offered. To supplement their local availability, the owners travel to Orlando to get more. While the selection leans a bit heavy toward strong or Belgian beers, there's good choice for everyone. Prices are comparible to other area bars. My only beef, and this applies to almost every bar in the state, is a lack of craft brews, especially on tap. This may get better with the recent additon of a couple of new micro-brewing ops. Note that the place is marginally easier to find in the day as signage is poor. Definitely a must-stop for the traveler - it's about 5 mnutes off I-75 Fruitville Rd. exit. Read more about southern beer & brewing at www.BeerSouth.com

Huge beer garden, great brats and sausage. Best draught selection I've seen in Florida (no domestics). Probably about 300 bottled! Slightly pricey, but well worth it when you check out the size, selection, and service.
