Hey Sully, been wondering where you've been lately. I hear ya -- Lotsa chain-crap popping up, operated and patronized by people who don't seem to give a rip about the art of brewing beer. I can forgive the patrons who don't know better. I have a harder time forgiving the "brewmasters" who should. Look deeper though and you'll find some decent places scrambling for the serious beer-drinker's attention. See recent reviews of Onopa, Viking and Lake Louie breweries operating on the other side of the Cheddar Curtain. And there's always Flossmoor Station down in your part of town -- a decent warm-up joint on your way to 3 Floyds.
One thing remains certain -- Safe House bites. And so does the Goose.

Thanks, Enemy for taking some bullets for this semi retired reviewer. It's truly a small world. Not only that, we may be in a low phase of microbrews and a high phase of Republican, corporate sterile, commercialized crap. Hope you make it to the other side. I'll be at Bell's or Three Floyds.

Four categories out of 5 rated "lousy." And to think they could have gone for the sweep if only they had ever bothered to wait on us before the kitchen closed. Paid $5 cover charge for a "DJ" but there was none; waited 35 minutes before a waitbroad finally made her way to our table, by which time the kitchen had closed; asked for our cover back and they refused. In summary: my date and I paid $10 to be utterly snubbed by the waitstaff for over half an hour, all the while surrounded by pretentious dicks. What a bonzer experience! Just can't wait to go back and do it again.
3 or 4 shitty beers on tap plus Guinness. Oooh-- now there's a beer I haven't seen before! Way to shake up the tap selection. Yeh yeh, I know, it's not a "beer bar" (why do places like this keep getting listed on Pubcrawler anyway?) but considering their "exclusive" pretensions they could at least offer a couple interesting brews.
Unless you're one of those people who absolutely must be seen at the "cool" places, skip this one.

After ten years, I still can't think of a trip to Milwaukee and not make plans for a quick jaunt to the Safe House. While not the place for a loner to go for purely a beer drinking experience, it is a must for more social animals. I have yet to bring a date there that wasn't thrilled by the novelty of the entire establishment. So if your beer drinking is augmented by things like dating or just a thirst to something out of the main-stream-typical found on every other corner or americana, take a peek, you won't regret it.

When you are trying to get away from all the stupidity in Chicago, this is the perfect place to go. Nothing in Chicago is nearly as good. My boyfriend has excellent taste in terms of good entertainment.

You can tell this is a gimmicky place with no reason to be here just by looking at the average ratings -- "so-so" for beer quality and selection but "awesome" overall? Gimme a break. Since its here, I'll rate it. I like the place; I can still remember a bacon cheeseburger I had 15 years ago there, it was that good. But on returning as a full-fledged beer geek I can see how mediocre the beer selection is and how silly it is to go there expecting a "serious" beer-drinking experience. Still, it IS a fun place that certainly should be on your list of drinking establishments for Milwaukee -- just not your short list.

This place has an atmosphere unlike any other in town. It definately steps outside the "box" in bringing you a lasting memory. Once you leave, you will definately want to go back. psst...the seagull perches on dock 5...tell no one

This place is really different! Maybe it is not a "beer" bar, but it is a very interesting place to go out to and drink when you are all about the atmosphere! Anyone really into 007, Austin Powers, or any "spy" type stuff would get a kick out of the place!

This is in no way a beer bar. I have no idea how it made it onto Pubcrawler. This is a gimmick bar designed for the very young.
