I just spend 18 days in the LA area and this was by far the best brewery that I foung. Their special was a Black Ale (that was as good or better than 1664) and a Scottish Ale that was excellent. Great service with a very knowledgeable waitress. Only reason for the Great on selection was they were out of their Stout. It is a little had to get to and find a place to park but well worth it to me. I now have a different e-mail address

I agree with the previous reviewer. We first visited the Karl Strauss Brewery in San Diego a few years ago and found that to be one of the best breweries we had ever visited. So we expected great things at this place. We were disappointed. Not only is this place a little hard to find (after numerous phone calls to the place for exact directions, we finally got there - maybe we were just suffering from jetlag, also), the beers were just o.k. I had the Downtown After Dark (brown ale) and my partner had the Star of India IPA. We liked both of them, but again, this was nothing like the San Diego location (hope that one is still good).

Overall I thought this place was great to good. I'm giving it the benifit of the doubt in my review because I was jet-laged and had alread had a few by the time I got there. Though none of their beers stick out as particularly outstanding, I did find most of them palatable enough. However, I would visit several other breweries in this area before I went to this one again.

This is the newest of the Karl Strauss brewery/restaurants and like all the others I've visited, it's excellent. They always have a wide variety of beers which are rotated monthly and the quality is consistently excellent. The food is generally very good although it would be nice to see the menu varied more often like the beer is. I highly recommend Karl Strauss to everyone and I'm stoked that I have on near me now so I don't have to go to San Diego anymore to enjoy it!

Opened less than a month ago. Upscale when compared to the Karl Strauss store in downtown San Diego - very similar to a Gordon Biersch outlet, bu the beer is better. Adjacent to South Coast Plaza and located near a theater complex. Pilsner was maltier than I like, but very drinkable. The stout is first rate.
