Just a follow-up to the previous review - the place is definitely CLOSED. We went there on July 4th after a visit to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse and even made hotel reservations in Hill City to make sure we'd eat and drink there. Boy, were we disappointed to find it GONE. Its now a Harley Dealership.
We went down the street to the Bumpin Buffalo, which was a disaster. It was 6:45 and we waited about 25 minutes for a table. When we finally got a a table, the manager, who was standing maybe 10 feet away from us, told the waitress, "don't seat them, we're not serving dinner anymore." When I tried to talk to the manager, she quickly walked away and refused to answer me. I was pissed to say the least. She was standing right next to us, tell us yourself moron! Don't dump it on some poor waitress you gutless wench. And thanks for letting us stand there for 30 minutes for nothing. How the hell do you run out of food on July 4th? Next visit, I'll stay in Keystone instead.

I have no idea where the last reveiwer was on July 2, 2006 but I was just there last week and the brewpub is GONE! It is now a huge Harley Davidson Store. The Alpine Inn was a wonderful eatery for lunch just down the street.

Boy, did I need this place. After visiting Devil's Tower, WY then Mt. Rushmore on a 100 degree day, I was glad to find the brewpub. First and foremost the barmaid, I forget her name!!! (I'm terrible at names which is ashame as I'm a teacher) was so welcoming and really knew her beers. She, like me travels the country in search of worthy brews, and it was because of her that I enjoyed this one. Well, the beer wasn't bad either. A little Gimicky with 4 beers each beginning with an initial of one of the 4 Presidents, like a wheat for Washington and a Red for Roosevelt, but they were decent. The wheat with a lemon was good, especially on a darn hot day. Worth the trip.

This establishment is an excellent alternative to the nearby over-crowed “Alpine Inn”. They had seven beers on tap on 6/3/2005: A porter, a lager, a “Rough Rider Red”, 2 wheat beers, “Avalanche” probably a german style Berliner Weisse, and “Moosedrool” which I can’t classify. I sampled all brews and decided later to get one half gallon growler of the Rough Rider Red to enjoy later at home. The other beers were nice too, but seemed to lack “definition”, if you know what I mean. The food is good too, I had the honey-BBQ style chicken wings, 12 for $8.99. These wings were so loaded with heavy sticky sweet sauce, one barely got to taste the chicken! Perhaps too much sauce, but this is only my opinion. Luckily I had also ordered French fries and these off-set that sweet taste. To be fair, they offer real hot wings as well. The waitress was from Latvia, she went by the name Santa! She is a very nice person. Tip her well!

Superb! Good food, good drink and good atmosphere (even though it IS haunted). My husband and I travel that part of the country quite a bit and stop in anytime we’re near there for a cold one and a nice meal. My husband LOVES the Dirty Politics Double Black stout. Very smooth! The food is some of the best in all of the area. The chef makes everything fresh from scratch daily so get there early (lest they run out of one of their awesome specials!). While you are visiting Mt. Rushmore Brewing Company say hello to the Salsa Lady. She manages the joint and is pretty interesting in her own right. Making homemade salsa (again, the absolute best I’ve ever tasted – and I consider myself quite the connoisseur on salsas) from scratch. Hey, she even grows her own tomatoes, peppers, onions, etc… in her garden for the salsas. She sells them online so go visit the brewing company, have a beer, and say hello to the Salsa Lady (I bet she’ll tell you her website for those incredible salsas).

A GREAT PLACE! I ONLY AM OUT THIS WAY ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR BUT I ALWAYS STOP BY! GREAT BEER, GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE AND SOME GOOD LOOKING GIRLS RUNNING UP AND DOWN THE STEPS! IF THERE ARE ANY WOOD WORKERS OUT THERE, YOU NEED TO MAKE THEM A FEW TAP HANDLES... THEY WERE USING KEYSTONE LIGHT HANDLES WITH STICKERS OVER THEM FOR 2 OF THEIR BEERS! STAY OUT OF THE 3RD FLOOR... RUMOR HAS IT THAT IT IS HAUNTED UP THERE! MAKE SURE YOU GO BY AND HAVE A FEW PINTS! IT REALLY IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES! ONE IDEA... THE RIVERSIDE BREWING COMPANY (CA) COLLECTS T-SHIRTS FROM MICROBREWERIES ALL OVER THE USA & HANGS THEM FROM THE CEILING, WALLS, ETC. YOU SHOULD CONSIDER DOING THE SAME!

We found this place in our travels from Crazy Horse on our way up to Sundance, WY. The beer selection was excellent and the food was tasty and well prepared. Service was a bit slow and the upstairs room was hot - really could use ventilation or a/c. Glad we stopped and worth a visit. Hill City is a very nice town.

We stumbled upon this place on our way to Sundance, WY from Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Terrific assortment of beers on tap. We ate upstairs, which really needs to be air conditioned. Service was slow, but the food was very good. Overall, a very pleasant surprise. Hill City is a neat town with quite a few art galleries and I believe there is a scenic railroad that departs from there as well. Worth a visit.

Great brewpub with friendly service - in an old building which was once a crematorium and is said to be haunted by previous "customers"!

Small family owned brewpub
It's a great small brewpub that is open a very limited time in the summer. We were there the week before Labor Day and they were getting ready to close for the winter. They only had the red lager left. Although not my favorite style of beer, it was flavorful and smooth.
