Last Monday I went out to All You Can Eat (AYCE) Wings with some colleagues and our spouses to Quips on New Holland Pike. I was appalled with the service received.
My husband decided to order his last round of wings, and after a long wait, we questioned the status of the wings. At the same time, the other half of our party needed to take care of their balance and be on their way. The server notified us that the entire table needed to close their bill at the same time, so now our friends have to wait for the remainder of our order. Since our friends wanted to close our bill and had no idea when the remainder of the food was going to arrive, we asked for it to be boxed. I was told by the server, we don’t give boxes for AYCE wings. I let her know it’s been 45 minutes since we put our last order in and once again requested a box. She said she could not and still did not know when we would get our food. Again I pleaded, it’s been 45 minutes and we would like to close our bill, can you please box the wings. She said I’ll check on the wings as she was walking away. A few minutes later, a new server came out with a bill in hand and finally our wings order. We asked about getting a box to take them with us. She responded with, we don’t give boxes for AYCE wings. We questioned what took so long. She said a large party came and our order was placed after theirs. I once again requested a box and she said no, you don’t get what you want when you’re rude to the server. I asked for a manager on duty and she responded there isn’t one. We asked for our bill, which we thought was in hand, and she said this isn’t yours. I asked for her name, and she walked away.
I can understand people make mistakes. I’m just as guilty as the next person. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a simple apology or simply stating, I’m sorry but our rules prohibit me to provide you with what you’re requesting at this time. One thing is for sure, Quips is not a place I will recommend to any friends or families, because no person deserved to be scolded for making a request. I tried to voice my complaints first to the server, next to speak with the manager and finally I asked the server for her name so I could follow up with the manager at a later time. My party and I left feeling unappreciated for the business we gave, helpless in the situation and I hope my voice can be heard here since it was lost at Quips.

Stopped in for dinner between the two sessions of the recent Lancaster Brews & Blues Fest. Dinner (bangers and mash) was great, very nice meaty sausage, and the bartender handled our diverse, fired-up group with speed and aplomb. But the beer was quite disappointing. I got a pint of Fuller's ESB (there was a good selection of English/British ales and some seasonal Oktoberfests) and it was sour; had a taste of a friend's Oktoberfest and it tasted tired, like an unclean line or a long-tapped keg. Not a great experience at a bar that used to be one of my favorites.

Great selection of beers from the UK. Cozy comfortable setting, nice crowd and becomes fun after the dinner crowd leaves. Food is very good and the daily specials rock.

Description of this place from last review is right on. Comfortable, cozy. 13 taps with good British selection and a few micros. Back in the day, I had Double Diamond and lots of Fullers here. Regrettably I couldn't stay that afternoon for more than one, as I was beset by an extremely drunk woman who obviously had been celebrating the nominating conventions or something. I'll stop by for another pint next trip through town!

Love the place...Quips is a small restaurant with superb food and a good selection of British beers. They also have 1 or 2 macrobrews and 1 or 2 local microbrews on tap. The food was excellent...some of the best crabcakes around. Food, beer prices were in line with other establishments in the area. Atmosphere was very cozy, though a bit dark (lots of rustic beams, hardwood floor, etc) so if you like the feeling of an "outside" bar it's definitely not the place to be. Dining crowd tends to clear out around 9-10 pm when the "younger" crowd starts to arrive for the rest of the evening.
Definitely will be back!
