I have been looking forward to visiting a Mellow Mushroom location for some time now - chain and all.
I must say, I visited and left rather unimpressed.
I love pizza - all sorts from the New York style to those famous in Chicago and of course the real Italian thin as paper version. I probably eat pizza at minimum twice a week.
Mellow Mushroom's pizza (a vegetarian variety) seemed like some sort of health crust of say whole wheat maybe.
The texture what just uniform throughout - nothing fluffy or different really - seemed like a healthy bagel texture. I must note that the pizza also comes out quite dark in color - seemingly burnt it looks. However, it was slightly less than burnt - well done.
The toppings, fresh veggies, lacked any different tastes. The sauce, was bland and rather forgettable.
I had to douse the pizza in the pepper and other table seasonings to make it edible.
I tried a veggie hoagie and the deluxe veggie a few days later - hoping that the experience was a one time thing. The hoagie was soggie and tasted like a rain-forest floor at best. The deluxe veggie pizza was even worse in my opinion and at about a half of a piece I gave up on eating it.
Sure, they have a rather large beer selection here. The beer seemed fine. I'd recommend this location as a safe drinking haven to get away from the terrible traffic and mall rat race stuff all around it.
