love it or leave it. local pubs don't get much better. eat, drink, and be merry without breaking the bank. it's the kind of place you can take your date, friends, significant other or parents and have a relaxed experience. good selection of beverages and real food.

Well, my wife and I used to frequent the Thinking Man Tavern. But after last night's run-in with a surly server, we're not coming back. It's too bad because it's one of the only places left in Decatur that hasn't become overrun with Yuppies. Anyway, we came in on St. Patrick's Day, and the sign at the front said, "Seat yourself." So, we took a seat out on the patio. After about five minutes I decided to go in and ask whether we needed to place our order at the bar or if there was a server on duty. The server was standing around and approached me when I came in. He began to berate me about how I should have checked in with the staff before taking a seat outside, after all there's a big wall between the patio and the tavern, he said. I didn't argue and just said, OK. Then he followed me out to our table, hurled the menus and coasters down on the table, and spun around and left without saying another word. My wife wondered what that was all about - I told her that he was mad because we didn't tell him that we were going to sit on the patio. We left. Oh well, I guess we'll spend our money elsewhere.
