Overdue in stopping by given that I've been to Great Lakes frequently since they've come on the scene. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon with lots happening in the neighborhood (art show, flea market, live music) and couldn't have been more pleased. 20+ taps, 50+ bottles with the selections leaning to Belgian. Tried a Jolly Pumpkin ESBam--good saison character, nice. The building is deliciously old with padded ceilings, booths in bar area and dining in the rear. Unique lighting at the bar featuring aquarium lights--a first for me. Varied crowd, attentive service, made for a nice visit.

A must stop in Cleveland if you are loooking for a great selection of belgium beers! The service was outstanding the young lady that waited on us was working her last day before heading of to Hong Kong. Had a burger with fries/garlic. This and the beer had me in heaven.

I just posted a reply to the comment about an incident at McNulty's on Jan. 24. It should be noted that this occurred at McNulty's on Coventry in Cleveland Heights not in Ohio City, though I think it's the same owner who hires the same type of snotty bartenders.

I was actually sitting at the bar when the event you described occured. I've had similar experiences at McNulty's. I waited about an hour for them to make me a hamburger and when it arrived it was cold and burnt and the Mac and cheese I ordered was like glue and also cold. I'm actually relieved I came across this Web site because I thought I was just being a baby about how poor their service is and how snotty their bartenders are. As for what happened with the bartender on Jan. 24, I actually didn't think she was that bad, although I certainly wouldn't consider her bartender of the year. I think you were taking your frustration about the poor kitchen help out on her a little bit. Unfortunately, I've seen worse at McNulty's (I had one bartender talk on her cell phone for at least 5 minutes before she finally acknowledged me). I also don't think I would have handled the situation in the manner that you did, but I do understand your frustration. I agree, the owner really needs to address the situation there because I live in the neighborhood and I think it's a great location for a good bar.

IF I could find the owner I would tell him what a rotten experience we had at his restaurant. The Winking Lizard was closed for renovation. We walked in and saw a client. We talked for a bit and I thought brilliant! Another option in Coventry. Until I met this waitress that has the skills of someone who thinks if they wear tight jeans, iron their hair (black) and wear sort of cute clothes they can be rude to all. Her manager was her twin sister with blonde hair. My complaint which was legitimate was that we waited for food for forty minutes without explanation whilst at Winking Lizard would have already been served. Dark hair waitress (if anyone who is reading knows date and can fire because they should 1/24) shot mean looks at me while I asked about food. Finally we were so hungry (45 minutes later no food) she said in mean tone "the food is coming" and I didn't care anymore. I asked for bar tab. And, she began railing on me at bar attempting to get buy in from other clients whilst building her own self esteem. And, WHO IS THE CUSTOMER? A good server would have apologized. Brought food with a smile and everything would have been OK. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. If Winking Lizard is closed run screaming!

Absolutely the worst service I have ever had. Didn't even get a drink!! Walked out because we were tired of waiting for the lousy female bartender. We even ordered and than she went and wiped down the bar and talked about how busy they were with 2 guys at the bar. By the way it was Memorial Day and we were 2 of 6 people in the bar there were no empty glasses on the bar or tables so I really don't know how busy they possibly could have been. This place may have good beer but I will never find out, too many other places in Ohio City where the bartender will serve you.

I enjoy having this establishment in the neighborhood. The beer selection is great for this area, and the renovated space is terrific. The draft selection is not huge, but a nice cross section of style. About the service: most of the time I have had great service. esp from the male bartender with glasses. But b/c it was so bad last time, I am spanking them with a "lousy". I was in a recent sat pm, and the service was inexcusably HORRIBLE. I used to be a bartender so I could tell it was not b/c it was too busy. for nearly a ten minute wait, I watched the two female bartenders: apply lip gloss, speak endlessly with a male suiter with a full drink, relax behind the bar drinking a glass of water (like I said I am no tyrant. I used to tend bar and yes you drink water, but as you work. if you were to take a break-but who does in this biz, you leave the bar out of sight of thirsty customers), eat, apply more lip gloss, and ignore me, an excellent tipping female customer drinking top shelf beer, for cheap coors light drinking frat boys that had not been waiting as long. No apology when they finally sulked our way after a bar back (?) directed one over. ohio city have way too many great places to go with attentive, professional service. if the service issue is not dealt with they are going to suffer. Most people I know have mentioned this issue, as well as the reviewers. I know some of the bartenders and waitresses are good, but the service needs to be more uniform. I would check this place out if in the area, as great lakes brewing co is just around the corner in case these girls leave you with an empty glass.

Cool atmosphere and a great idea for the West 25th street area, but let me tell you they really need to hire better servers. These people act like they are doing you a huge favor to get you a drink. They all have poor attitudes and I would highly suggest that the owner of this place address the service levels if he / she expects to stay open for any significant amount of time. It's walking distance for me, but bad enough that I will give it 1 or 2 more tries and if it doesn't get better I'll go elsewhere.

VISITED ON AN EARLY SATURDAY EVENING WITH OPEN STOOLS AT THE BAR AND DIDN'T GET GREETED WITHIN THE FIRST 15 MINUTES SO LEFT ONLY TO COME BACK LATER THAT EVENING; AND AGAIN HAD TO DEAL WITH POOR SERVICE. 10-14 TAPS WITH BELGIANS, BROOKLYN IPA, GLGC. NIGHTCLUBBISH INTERIOR DECOR. STAFF NEEDS TO VISIT CHICAGO'S MAPROOM TO SEE HOW TO DO THE PERFECT BELGIAN TAPROOM.
