Murphy's Bleachers has always been a fun place for pre- and post-Cub games, and have carried a few great beers for years, but recently, they suddenly added a whole bunch of world-class beers. The sudden improvement of their beer selection has inspired me to create an entry for them, here in pubcrawler.com.
Currently (as of 9/17/2006), a *partial* beer list:
draught: Two Brothers Amber Ale (Warrenville, IL) Two Brothers Cane & Ebel (Warrenville, IL) 3 Floyds Alpha King (Munster, Indiana) Goose Island Honkers Ale (Chicago, IL) Bell's Oberon (Kalamazoo, MI) Anchor Steam (San Francisco, CA) Bell's Oberon (Kalamazoo, MI) New Belgium Fat Tire (Fort Collins, CO) Sam Adams Boston Lager Bass Bitburger Harp Guinness Stella Artois
bottles: Bell's Amber Ale Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald New Belgium Fat Tire Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale Goose Island Summertime Victory Prima Pils Summit Extra Pale Ale Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA Duvel Hoegaarden Leffe Blonde
They have all the usual industrial beers for your friends that don't like beer, plus some wines and non-alcoholic drinks. Food is simple, grill fare (dogs, chicken sandwiches, burgers, etc.), but very tasty.
Lot's of TV's tuned to sports above and across from the four separate bars.
If that's not enough, they have lots of specials, like lunch with famous former Cubs, $3.00 Belgian beers on Mondays, $2.00 locally brewed pints on Tuesdays, etc. They have a close to a dozen tables with umbrellas outside.
Summary: It used to be a good bar... now it's a great bar and a place worth visiting just for the beer.
