This new brewery occupies a historic building in Birmingham's Avondale neighborhood. The brewing and fermenting equipment share space with a taproom serving Avondale beers by the pint or in multi-beer samplers. We did the four beer sampler before opting for a pint of our favorite. On tap on December 19th were the following: Spring Street Saison, Belgian Brown Ale, Vanillaphant Porter, and Battlefield IPA. All were solid, with the porter being (as my son put it) a bit "young" and still perhaps a work in progress. Interestingly, the IPA was the lowest strength of the four beers on offer at 5.8% ABV, with the most potent being the saison weighing in at 7.2%. A more sessionable kolsch-style ale is reportedly coming soon. One of the Avondale guys indicated that more fermenters were on the way that will double or even triple capacity in the near future. It is evident that Avondale is off to a good start with the promise of some early growth.
