A much needed review...this is by far the best and only REAL beer establishment in Old Town proper. The selection doesnt vary often but there's plenty here to satisfy those suffering from serious malt and hop deficiencies. The draft menu while short, always has one or 2 real winners (at least to my palate) e.g. Smuttynose IPA. There's also a much larger bottle menu with a very nice mix of micros and imports e.g Dogfish 90 and Aventinus Weizenbock. The food here is very good and reasonably priced for the area and the ambiance is quite nice and dainty too - though it can get a wee too cozy at times esp in the dining room.

Had a great New Year's there in 1997. Great spot to relax - as close to hobbiton as you'll get in the capital region.

This is a nice 'quiet drink by the fire, homey place' alternative to more crowded spots in Old Town. Great wine is the calling card here, but the beer is surprisingly good. Good food too.
