Simply a great spot to enjoy beer and a few oysters. Stumbling distance from the streetcar line.

Had a good time here. Normal pub-grub, grilled sandwiches and fried foods. Quite a selection of beer. Drafts available in 1/2 pint, pint, and pitcher. Great if you want to try many different beers. Plenty of TVs, i think i counted 10 or 12. Not all were showing sports either, some discovery channel. It is right off of the St. Charles Streetcar line, less than a block so it's in a great location. Definitely check it out when in town.

We occasionally stop into Cooter Browns on "getaway day." It's a short drive to the airport. As others have mentioned, we found the beer selection disappointing. So many taps, so few good beers. There is a large bottle selection, but we can drink good bottled beer at home. The service is indifferent - the bartenders are chatting up with their buddies at the other end of the bar. You often have to go through some dramatics to get a refill. No point in asking questions about the beers, since they seem to neither know nor care. The pub grub is good. Boudin goes well with beer. The overall rating is higher than any of the components because of the atmosphere. A highlight of visits there is the wonderful caricatures of famous people. Each person is shown drinking an "appropriate" beer. Bela Lugosi is drinking "Evil Eye". Jacques Cousteau is drinking "Kingfisher". Mother Theresa is drinking "Bishop's Finger". Clever and very entertaining. With some time on our hands on a visit last fall, we photographed many of these. They are now on the site.

Yes, many bland beers on tap, but several types of locally brewed Abita, all nice and fresh. Muffaleta sandwich was very good. Place was packed during NFL playoff game, but emptied out nicely at the final whistle. And, yes, take the streetcar (stop #43) so you can enjoy the beer.

They had a large selection, but as others have indicated, too many wasted on budmillercoors. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of unusual beers. The mulfaletta was excellent.

I believe that Cooter Brown's has the largest selection of beers in New Orleans. Unfortunately, many of their taps are wasted on mass market lagers. Worse, their huge selection of bottled beers turns over slowly, I have seen Acadian Pilsner in their cabinets about a year after the brewery closed (Acadian has since reopened, by the way). Many of the foreign beers, such as those from Vietnam, are there because they are exotic places and are terrible. Probably they are old as well as being international mass market lagers. However, Cooter's does have many great beers, some on tap. And it does have excellent food. I recommend the gator sausage po-boy, with a side of boudin. Try the Crescent City and the Acadian BeerGarden first, for local beer, but if you have time visit Cooter Brown's too!

Take the st charles ave. streetcar out from the city center, dont drive, because the huge beer selection will tempt you to try many old favorites, and experiment with new ones. Its also a great ride for visitors. I drop in to cooter browns with every visit to N.O. and always enjoy it, although it's not as good as the d.b.a however ! ! ! Food is good and affordable, and staff are mostly clued in.

Don't drink unpopular draft beers esp at back bar as they tend to go bad. Still the best place in town for beer lovers, with oysters and satellite sports

Certainly the best beer selection in New Orleans. They have about 300 bottles and 35 drafts. However most of their drafts are not what a pubcrawler visitor would be interested in -mostly Bud, Coors, Miller etc. Only decent drafts are Old Foghorn and Lindemann's Framboise. Their bottled selection although pretty large has certainly gotten worse in the past couple of years- for example used to carry rogue imperial stout, rogue old crustacean and many others which they no longer carry. This is probably due to the New Orleans population , where good beer is not appreciated. Worth stopping in if the area, but if you can't visit you're not missing too much. For a much better draft selection (over 200 drafts!)- visit Taco Maco in Cumming, Georgia which is a suburb of Atlanta. Taco Mac is a truly special place.

I have been going to Cooter's for a number of years and have yet to find a better bar anywhere in the country. The beer selection is outstanding and the food is first rate.

The beer is great and so is the food. The only bad thing is they allow a vagrant to hang out, drink beer, and sleep on the floor.

The kind of place you can walk into for the first time in your life and feel at home, especially if Sam is behind the bar. A superb selection of beers, and (if you don't mind a serious slant toward the seriously unhealthy) a menu offering very generous servings of very good food. I recommend the muffuletta. If you follow my recommendation, I also recommend getting extra napkins.

Beer is king, here..I've been coming to Cooter's for the last 15 years and even though a renovation has taken away that "run down" charm the beer selection and food remains awesome...visit and see. When did the 24 hours a day service cease and desist?

Too bright inside, they need to turn the lights down so that you feel as if you are actually IN a bar. Other than that a great place to drink beer.
