had a couple of beers on 1/12/07. the place is small like a corner tavern which it is. the beer selection was limited but was of high quality. i had a couple of beers i never had before and they were excellent (south hampton ipa, brooklyn wheat) i didn't eat here but the food smelled great. there was venison on the menu and it looked great as well as german wurst plate. the wait staff were warm and friendly.

A very solid draft selection including some fine choices from Chicago's Goose Island (a very flavorful I.P.A) and Petaluma, California's Lagunitas (Cappucino Stout) among others. All the beers sampled were in great form and although I did not ask to view the extended bottle list, the list that was written on the chalk board seemed to feature a number of hard-to-find selections. The service was a bit tepid, but the variety more than made up for it. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the Kip's Bay area.

On the day I stopped in (7/22) it was hotter than 2 mice fornicating in a wool sock! I was looking for a place to set down, cool off, and have a few brews with lunch. I found all that and more. This is a great place. The bartender that afternoon was great, friendly patrons, excellent food and a great variety of beer. On tap the day I was there--Redhook rye, Dogfish Head 90 min., Guiness, Stella, Anchor, Avery IPA, Weinstephaner Hefe, Bealy scotch ale, Sierra Nevada pale ale, Wyerbacher, Fulers ESB, Plue Point blueberry, South Hampton, Avery white, Hoegarden, Magic Hat #9, Smutty Nose brown. This will become a regular stop each time I'm in NYC.

Good atmosphere and good beer, too. They had all the stuff from Brooklyn Brewing and one of my all time favorites, Arrogant Bastard Ale. Crowd was predominately YUP the night I was there. It also has the feeling of an old NY neighborhood bar. Worth your time if you're in town.

It's nearly impossible to over-praise this place. The beer selection -- both on tap and in bottles -- is creative and always features labels I haven't seen before.

The food was very good. I thought the tap selection to be ok, but I've seen a lot better. They did have Brooklyn Black Chochlate on tap, but nothing else out of the ordinary. I'd go back because I know they rotate their taps quite often. Maybe I just hit it on a bad night?

As the comments say this is near the movie theatre. This place makes movie drivel seem fun. Lots of beer, good beer, friendly and knowledgable bartenders, and nice food. Haven't been to Brooklyn yet but will probably go based on the appeal of this location.

This is a place to visit if your a true beer lover. The food is great, the service is better and if you like a down home type bar this is it. Try the Brooklyn location, also it is worth the trip. (May 26, 2001)

Oh, forgot to tell you they take a week off for Labor Day each year. You need to come back as winter approaches and the big beers start appearing on tap. Don't forget to A) buy the weekly Metrocard or the Daily Fun Pass depending on the length of your stay, and B) go to the Ginger Man on a weekend afternoon early, and escape the big crowds and see the doors open!

Always a great experience - especially if you relish the adventure of trying new beers. Great selection - both bottled and on tap. On the food front - we only had appetizers (easy on that hot sauce) but the dinner menu looked quite appealing. Overall, terrific service in a friendly and laid back atmosphere.

This has become my local pub. Sam, the owner, is one of the Nice Guys of this world. Ralph, the chef, has marvelous specials. Bartenders are knowledgable.Waitresses are friendly and efficient. Don't miss this place or its sister pub, Waterfront Ale House on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn.

Ostrich burger with carmelized onions was great. Fresh popcorn is also real cool. Beer selections were excellent, all of which are served in correct glasses, instead of the normal "pub pint". Magic Hat # 9 was good here, as well as the Paulaner Hefeweizen. I will be back.

Only a matter of time before the movie crowd filters into this place and packs it. Been in this location 4 years, and seems to specialize in Brooklyn beers (three on tap recently). Also a fine Young's (mumble) Stout, and Fuller's cask-conditioned (but no handpump). Fine tap selection numbering in the teens, and the bartender was very attentive to our needs. Will happily continue to return.

Love this place! We've come to hangout there quite often actually; it's a great place to relax, have a good brew, down some great casual food, and chat with friends. The menu is pretty varied for a place like this, and the daily specials are often quite unusual (ostrich burger?!). Music is great too; it's a good collection but never too loud. And we insist that there's something in the free popcorn there that makes it completely addictive! The only downside is that the service is unreliable, but if Michelle is around, make sure she's your waitress and you're set! PS: Better try it out now, when the Sony Megaplex opens across the street you may never get into this great pub!

I don't remember exactly how many taps they have, at least 12, but they have Old Foghorn--which shows this place has some class.
