I'm on vacation, and I make a extra stop in Syracuse to try their infamous beer bars. But to my dismay, they're closed on Sundays. HOW LAME!!!

If the seating was a little better and the place a little less smoke-filled, this would be on my top 5 all-time greats. It still makes the top 20! More great beers than just about any place on the planet. No crap on these taps.

The Blue Tusk belongs in the top 20 beer bars in the U.S., without question. Clean, open, friendly, with an excellent tap selection that's well-kept, and cask ale to boot. My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that I would have liked to see more NY beers. I was kind of annoyed by the number of Three Floyds beers I saw here (and everywhere, actually). Not that I don't like 3 Floyds, I do: but there are plenty of great breweries much closer to home. BUT, like I said, small complaint. This is a great bar, and a must-visit in upstate. Worth a side-trip from Albany or Buffalo. Really.

This is the first (and usually the only!) stop when I am in Armory Square. The selections are vast, the sandwiches are delicious and the bartenders knowledgeable and friendly. If you haven't had any Middle Ages product before, try any one of the cask conditioned (or kegs for that matter) selections. This is a mandatory stop for micro fans!

Another stop by the S.C.A.L.E. group. As so many others have said before me, this place is fantastic. A cozy place to be in, we commandiered a couple of window tables and enjoyed the vast selection of beers. They must work hard at keeping the draft lines clean, with so many beers on tap you would expect to find at least one or two to be funky. All the beers I tasted were good and fresh. GOOD JOB! Will have to come back and try the food. A fun time was had by all. Highly recommend going there.

A great beer bar with a lot of selection. "New" atmosphere. Was crowded in the evening. Enjoyed our afternoon beers in a more relaxing setting.

Much better beer selection than Clarks and a little better than Macgregors, but all three have a great selection of good beers. (Rogue, Three Floyds, Sierra Nevada, Corsondonk, Middle Ages, Anchor, Lindemans, etc.) Very crowded on weekends, but worth it for the beer and for the knowledgable bartenders. Macgregors was less crowded, but liked the atmosphere here better. A must visit for any fan of good beer.

Better selection of beer than Clark's, and the bartender (Owner?) really knew his beers. Didn't eat as we had just had Clark's sandwich, but the menu looked very interesting. Next time in town we will definitely be back for the beer and to try the food.

This is a must when visiting Syracuse. Their selection is outstanding. 68 taps and all very fresh. They have all of the Middle Ages brews along with many from the area. We were impressed with the knowledge of the bartenders. Everyone knew their beers and were very willing to make suggestions based on your request. The food is outstanding. The Blue Tusk is cigar friendly! A must for me.

They know their beer! Always a large selection of great beers. They carry all the Middle Ages products (a local Brewery which consistently turns out world-class beers). The Middle Ages IPA is "to die for." Not the place to go for a sit-down dinner; however, the sandwiches are good and the recently introduced personal pan pizza is excellent and represents a great value.

Syracuse is fortunate to have two great beer bars that serve cask conditioned ale within a short walk from each other. I give the edge to The Blue Tusk over Clark's Ale House because of its much larger beer selection. Check out "Firkin Friday" when a cask of Middle Ages real ale is set on the bar and dispensed from a spigot(5pm until empty).

They've got about 50 taps, constantly rotating. Usually the first in town to get new beers. Gets crowded - go early.
