Well, when you know the cook's mom it helps. I enjoyed the place, but it was not something that would daw me back in right away. Felt like I was a a golf course , if you like that kind of atmosphere - okay I guess. I enjoyed the food though.

Please DO NOT include the past reviews from the Jackson Brewing Company with this place. I was just there again and it is nothing like it was before. The averages on the top of the listing uses both places and does not reflect the new owners.

Do not confuse this place with it's last owners. When it was the Jackson Brewing Company the beer and food were great. Now the place caters to the "Bud" crowd with "Zigwiser" and "Ziglite" All of the beer is thin and lifeless. The food isn't any better. This place is a very poor example of the great Brew Pubs that are in Michigan.

Much more comfortable atmosphere than what it was before. The servicec is more friendly and knowledgeable, and the food quality was good. They have added a deck and sounds like some good times this summer with music and such. stop in and try the sampler (GREAT VALUE)

They have an excellent IPA, porter, and sweet stout. And, you gotta love the fact that they combined great beers with food, pool tables, and music.

These guys showed off their wares at the Mighigan Beer Fest this year and have only served to draw more attention to themselves. Very well deserved.

They have a seasonal called Centennial Pale Ale. It could have been mistaken for someone else's IPA, very hoppy and very good. The regular porter was barely drinkable, too sweet and syrupy. Take a chance and stop in if you're in the area.

Jackson Brewing Company has changed hands and is now called "Zigs Kettle of Brew". What was once a really neat brew pub is now a lousy sports bar. The kitchen staff has changed and the quality and choice of the food has dropped considerably.
I was sitting in the smoking section near a lot of cigarette smokers and when I lit up a $15.00 cigar I was told that cigar smoking was no longer allowed. Needless to say, they will no longer have me stop by on my way home along I94.

We stopped there on 10/14/01. A sign said they had recently closed and hoped to reopen in the future.

All 7 of the beers were good. The seasonal rye was very different from most. I had the Black Beer Chili. It was great. The rest of the menu looked great too. I am looking forward stopping back to try the menu and spend more time.

A great find on a one tank trip from the Cleveland area. A tour around a taster board was a real treat. Not being a big lager fan myself the Cooperstown Lager was a good one. Then as a hophead I got to my favorites, the Puddleford Pale Ale was far from pale. At 55 IBU it was one of the best I have had anywhere. After the Pale, the IPA was not that much hoppier but still was a great ale. Crossroads porter was excellent. Neither of us were impressed with the Mad Jacksons Red. I have to admit that I am not a big lover of wheat beers, that is not normally. But, their Nicey Spicey Wheat could cause me to make another trip to Jackson and soon. It was just as the name says, spicey and very nicey. I could almost give up the hops if I could get that wheat beer all the time. It was quite a treat also, to meet the young brewmaster. He was personable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. You could tell he wants to make great beer (and does). To top off the day, the food and service were excellant. We went on to another brewrey stop that afternoon but came back to Jackson to finish off the day. To top things off, there is a motel right across the street,,hop, hop hooray...

It may have just been the luck of the draw with the bartender, but the service was outstanding. She seemed to know everyone's name (a la Cheers), and never let my glass get too low. They have the "mug club", where for $25 per year, each patron gets his or her own personalized 22 oz. mug that hangs from the ceiling; when the customer comes in for a beer, the bartender gets it down and pours 22 oz. for a 16 oz. price. Other perks supposedly include a free beer on your birthday and other benefits at their yearly Oktoberfest in Jackson. I live over an hour away, but it would seem membership has its' priveleges... Anyway, the pale ale was generously hopped, the red was decent, and a seasonal spring amber ale was flowery, slightly malty, and quite good. I didn't try any food, but I'd definitely stop back for a couple of beers if driving through. By the way, it is located right off the highway at the Sargent Rd. exit.

Stopped in for a late lunch on Stuporbowl Sunday (ok, game wasn't a snoozer this year) which may explain why the place was so deserted. Was pleasantly surprised. Tried only two beers, an amber and a (seasonal) bock. Both were great. Food, from the pub menu, was delicious. I will definitely stop here again when I can check things out more thoroughly. Plan on a stop if you're traveling 94 between Chicago and Detroit--it's located right at an exit. (I think it was just east of Jackson at the Marshall exit.)

Basic style selection, but all were very good. My favorite was the porter. Food also pretty good - definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

The beers are much more consistent than a couple of years ago. They taste a lot better too, with the pale and the seasonals done just the way I like 'em. Had better luck ordering from the pub menu. The service has been good.

They had a Cascade Gold that was quite good when I was there a while back. the Red wasn't bad. The others were average, at best. Dinner menu is expensive, although the lunch menu is more reasonable. Food was decent.

It's to see from the other reviews that the beer and food have been improved. A decent spot for a meal (given the other choices in my home town), but a bit pricey and ordinairy.

Have been 3 times with different experience each time. Food is more reasonably priced now with pub style menu available. Beer specials are the best bet.
