Many brews to choose from. I tried 4 brews. Stella Artois a crisp, dry, slightly bitter, excellent summer beer. Yazoo Pale Ale as hoppy as you would want an ale to be. Malty with excellent bittering. Smithwicks Red colered like the name says one of the best draughts I had over the weekend. Also tried the St. Charles Porter it was rich smooth and just bitter enough to make you smile. The food was good the service was excellent. The bartender new enough about the brews to help you make up your mind. She was busy but never to busy to answer a question or refill a glass. We were here on 12/30/05 on a Friday night but were treated well and left with a smile. Christine was the bartender when the wife and I go back if she is there I will request her as our server and would recommend that anyone else do the same.

While visiting Nashville recently, I stopped in at Market Street to have dinner while touring the downtown area. I had heard good things about this place and had to try it out. The service was great and the bartender was very friendly. She was also very knowledgable about the Nashville scene. The atmosphere was great and the restaurant was fairly full. Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves on this evening. Both the food and the beer were very good. I would recommend stopping in if you get a chance.

ive been going to this place for 13 years and im here to tell you that it is the worst brewpub in america. this place used to be unreal...back when phil was brewing the beer. the new guy or guys just do not do a good job at all at making beer. the service is absolutely horrid. lindsey bohannon (the owner) is only concerned with the almighty $ and has put ZERO effort into making this what it used to be, a top notch brewpub. this place used to be unmatched. they should shut it down and go out of business because its an embarrasment to nashville's micro-brew culture. i now spend my money at boscos in hillsboro villiage. do yourself a favor and dont even bother with market street....go to boscos or blackstone or yazoo. those places serve a quality product! market street just flat out sucks.

You read of some brewpubs taking out their brewing equipment to make more room for the restaurant. Market Street has added a new twist - taking out their brewing equipment to add... more parking. And the sad thing is, parking is a better utilization of the space.
This is now just another tourist trap on 2nd Ave. The beer is much better at Boscos, Blackstones, Big River, or have a Yazoo on tap at somewhere else.

The most impressive thing about this place is the massive "mug club" collection. The beer was not worth stopping for and the food was just okay.

I have visited this brewpub many times over the years. Beer quality was much better when it was just a micro-brewery. I think the beer lines need to be cleaned more often. Food is pretty good. Selection is good, but they seem to be out of certain styles my past few visits.

This downtown Nashville pub looks like a real English pub, right down to the handles for the hand pumps. You think you're in for a real English experience. But unfortunately, they have no English-type beers on tap. Even the pump handles are fake--they're attached to regular, pressurized taps. And the beer is served in ice-cold classes! The 6 beers they brewed were different from each other, but otherwise undistinguished. The Pale Ale and Red Ale had little body; the Pils was too malty and too high in alcohol--a strange sensation to have a pils taste perked up by extra alcohol. The Brown Ale and Porter were too sweet, but otherwize pleasant. We didn't stay for the food.

Checked this place out twice in 2 days. The first day was a typical steamy Nashville August afternoon. I stopped in the almost deserted bar and ordered a Pilsner. It was so-so, maybe a little on the sour side. It took a minute to get recognized by the 2 bartenders (I was one of 3 patrons at the bar). I hate it when bar employees pretend there are more important things to discuss than serving customers.
The next night, I took a chance and actually brought some folks to dinner here. I tried the Pilsner again, and then the Tug Boat Pale Ale. Again, both brews were so-so. The food was average (The shrimp & grits was OK, but other selections were a little on the unexciting side).
The only thing this place has going for it is convenience to downtown and Broadway, the main "strip" of Nashville. Nashville is full of bums in the summer. Bums (aka homeless) in Nashville are in the habit of sleeping in parks, on the waterfront, in doorways and alleys. They also consider the streets as their own personal toilets, thus when passing alleys or doorways you are bombarded by wafting breezes of strong urine smell. This place had a lingering smell of urine near its front door, and, to top it off, our waiter had oppressive B.O.!
Forget this place, pass it by, you aren't missing anything. Go down the street to the Big River, or cab out to Boscos.

The beer selection sucked. THe beer was mediocre. The bar smelled like urine and stale tobacco. The mens room actually smelled better than the rest of the bar.

I visited this brewpub on 6/1/03. Brews available were Vanilla Cream Ale, Classic Pilsner, Tugboat Pale Ale, & Nut Brown Ale. The pub had 2 dart boards.

I was there in 04/03. The porter was very sour. The pilsner was not quite as bad but had an odd taste. I was glad I was just trying a sample. The pale ale had little hop flavor. It should have been called a golden ale or cream ale. There is a great view of the Cumberland River at a few tables in the back of the restaurant but that's about all this brewpub has going for it. The beers at Big River, just down the street, are better. Bosco's in Nashville is making much better beers.

I only had one beer here, the Pale Ale, and wasn't terribly impressed. Not bad, but there are far better in Nashville. I had been here a few years back and they had a bunch on tap -- this visit they only had what they considered their 4 year round standards. Food was ok, pub fayre. Service was very good and the building itself is worth stopping in for, just don't spend too much time here with Bosco's and Blackstone in town...as well as a few other good beer bars.

Finally made it back to Nashville. The Vanilla Cream lived up to the hype. The Vols were in town when my wife and I stopped in for lunch. We were the only two not wearing orange. The place was packed. The service was great we got a table right away and didn't wait long for our food. If I find myself back in Nashville I would return to this welcome addition to Second Ave..

Loved the vanilla cream ale so much I asked the replicator from "Brew Your Own" magazine for a clone recipe. It appears in the July/Aug 2002 issue for any other home brewers out there

The Vanilla Cream Ale was Great (and I was very surprised)! The other beers ranged in quality, from so-so to good (I thought the nut brown was good). I enjoyed the cajun-style food we ordered, and our server was pleasant.

I just spent 4 days in nashville on business and hit this brewpub on two different nights. Good atmosphere...seemed less touristy. The brown ale was probably my favorite. I thought the seasonal red lager was slightly "off" tasting. The full rack of ribs was massive and delicious. One other plus is that you can get beers in 12oz, 20oz, or 1 liter sizes.

I had the beer sampler at the bar. It included the Vanilla Creme Ale, a couple of other lighter varieties and the Nut Brown Ale. The Vanilla Creme is different enough to be interesting. The Nut Brown was disappointingly light in color and flavor, although I did get a taste of the "nuttiness" in it. The other two beers were not memorable. The grilled chicken salad that I had was good.

What happened to this place? I raved about this place to my friends but now I'm embarrassed. The beers were good a couple of years ago, now they're barely drinkable. Get a darker style, it hides the flaws. The whole place is filthy and disorganized. Too bad, the old-time bar is cool and the place has potential. Amazingly, it was still crowded and the scenery was nice.
