Our favorite after work happy hour place. My wife and I only sit at the bar, so cannot speak for the sit-down and eat a meal part. You only get happy hours specials if you are seated at the bar. Bartenders are very good, especially Bennie. All beers are enjoyable, the pumpkin is one of the best.

Stopped in following a Nats game this past season. They advertised a free pint glass with every pint purchased. We left after waiting 20 minutes after being seated without even receiving a menu. Unable to rate the beer or food as we didn't get within 20 feet of any.

We had an attentive bar tender that provided good service. His knowledge of the beer was less than expected. He could not really offer any insights into the beers. The beer itself wasn’t all that great. Most where too thin lacking any body. I had the sampler so I tried all 6 of their beer. I didn’t order any others. We left for someplace else. We weren’t hungry so we didn’t eat. Everyone around us was eating and the food looked and smelled good. I may have to go back just to try the food.

Overall, the beer was rather good - they had six on tap at the time. The food and the service, however was wanting. Our waiter was impossible to flag down, and when he managed to get near our table, was generally unpleasant. To make matters worse, our food was ice cold when we got it. In all, I'd go back for the beer, but would skip the food all together.

Overall a Strong brew house with good darks. The food is also good, with the monumental brownie being huge! The Kolsch is probably also one of the better ones in the city.

Can't say I've EVER been thrilled with Cap City. I've been there a whole bunch of times since I moved to the area, always try some new things, I've been through MANY of their choices and I'm just NEVER thrilled with it. As stated it's always So-So. Gotta say.. never had something there I'd describe as "great". It's ashame.. I'd prefer to support them to Gordan Birsch, which is a national chain, but I gotta say - Gordan Birsch just has a better brewmaster...I'm always happier a few blocks away there than at Cap City... alas.

Visited on May 15, 2006. I Had high hopes for this place. They only sell their 4 home brews, which is tough if you have one person in your group who doesn't like microbrew. Maybe it was just a bad day, but the beers all tasted tinny and stale. Food was very average. Wait staff was pleasant.

I went on my daughters 21st birthday. I loved the glasses. (Etched star with Capital City Brewery cut around.) The server said there were none for sale but came back at the end of our dinner with two wrapped up in newpaper. He said to quietly take them with me!!

I visited this brewpub for lunch on 12/05/03. Brews available were the Capitol Kolsch, Amber Waves Ale, Palerider Ale, Prohibition Porter, Pale Gone A'Rye, Belgian Saison, Ernie's Cherry Blonde, Pumpkin Ale & Belgian Trippel. Their sampler rounds consist only of 5 brews. I had to wrangle the other 4 out of the bartender. The bratwurst was excellent.

I tried the beer sampler and liked every one. The Amber Waves is particularly good, perfectly spiced and no after-taste. I only wished they had more special brews.

The Kolsch bier was not only not kolsch, it was terrible. All was not lost, however, as the seasonal Oktoberfest was excellent. I can rarely find an Oktoberfest bier in this country that actually has enough malt to it, this one did and had the malt sweetness that you will find in Bayern. As for the other biers, the English style ales and porter were good, not great, although the porter & pale ale make great session biers. The main advantage to this place is convenience to the middle of town.

Beers were inconsistent. I will rank them in order. The special beer - imperial stout - was awesome. The Kolsch was very light, with a bit of the winey flavor character of Kolsch yeast - pretty good. The IPA had a nice hop bitterness, but a bit light bodied, not much aroma - rated good. The Amber could have used more maltiness, and had some diacetyl I think. The Prohibition Pilsner also had diacetyl and I found the cluster hops a bit harsh. Both so-so.
My companions rated the food very favorably.

I tried a sampler of Kolsch, Bitter, Pale Ale and Alt. I suppose all were appropriate to their styles. They neither excited me nor offended me. A pint of the stout was nice. I prefer a sampler that covers all the beers, and I was disappointed not to see an Octoberfest beer on October 1st. There wasn't much of a crowd (or much noise) on a Sunday afternoon. Entrance is on H St., at the corner of 11th St. The Convention Center is also at that intersection, and the 11st exit of the Metro Center subway stop is a block south. See their web site for ahttp://www.capcitybrew.com/location.html">map.

It is still open (I just phoned them). The trick is that the pub is NOT really on New York Ave. It's around the block on H St. The address is very confusing.

This Capitol City Brewing is closed. It is now a furniture store. I emailed pubcrawler & told them months ago but they just ignored it.

Large, clean, atmosphere, many windows offer views of DC, but SKIP the Kolsh, this batch was as bitter as 3 week old warm milk, BUT, the PALE ALE was sweet, tasty, full bodied and delicious!

I've been before and have always said the beer quality & selection were outstanding. This time I was disappointed, - the Hefe Weizen was terrible! This style is my favorite and CC's version was just plain bad. The Kolsch was excellent though. Hopefully this experience was an anomoly.

Great Staff. The beer selection was limited but the Nut Brown Ale was excellent. This location can get very loud. I will stop in next time I'm in D.C.

The beer was pretty good, but the selection was rather slim. The food was very good and the waitstaff, I sat at the bar, was on the spot all night. A bit pricey but worth a stop.
