Visited here in late June 2009, they had just recently changed over all of their logos, and names of beers after merging with UBV(?) Missed the "garage sale" by a few weeks... :-(
Beers were FRESH and GREAT ! The brewery in the back is HUGE !!

I visited both the Walnut Creek and the Berkeley locations on 5/4/08 and had the following brews; Amber Weizen, Apricot Ale 5.1%, Crystal Wheat Ale 5.3%, Pear Cider, Curve Ball 4.9%, Oregon Honey Beer 4.8%, Thunderhead IPA 6.7%, Hefe Weizen 5.2%, Draft Pale Nitro 5.1%, Stout Nitro, Mactarnahans Cream Porter 5.3%, Belgian, Mactarnahans Amber Ale.
I did not have the sampler round at the Berekely location because the samper was the same as Walnut Creek. However by the time I got here I did need to have some dinner. The food was great and their gift shop was outstanding. I did manage to save room for a pint of the nitro stout. If you can't find a beer that you like here, then you don't like beer.

We got lost in the neighborhood, and found Pyramid Alehouse. Wow! We did the brewhouse tour, quick but great. We sat at the bar and had great service. We are from the midwest, but we will be back to Pyramid Alehouse.

Stopped in on a Bay area self guided brewery tour. Had the IPA. Very good !! Service was great. I love the building. Kind of a run down part of town, otherwise, nice oasis for beer.

We spent about 5 hours here on a Sat afternoon, the place was empty- and we got ignored. I had to walk up to the bar as ask the waitress to be sent at least 5 times. The beer is great, the food was good, the service was terrible. I tend to think we just got a crappy waitress- but we shouldn't have had to work so hard to drop so much money on a bill. I might be willing to give this place another shot if it wasn't so closer to other really great small breweries.

Pyramid has been around for some time and it seems to get better every time. I stopped in for a quick bite and a brew before catching a flight home. I had the Draght Pale Ale (DPA) and some nachos - exactly what I wanted. The DPA is served with nitrogen which mellows the flavor and gives it a creamy mouthfeel. I could drink it al night, but alas, I had to stop after two. the place was busy with a Friday evening crowd but the bartender was always there when my glass was empty. On a scale of one to four mugs, give this a four.

I really like the atmosphere here, they have a patio in front and another in the back, but I can see where it would get very loud if they were full as mentioned by another reviewer. The beers are good not great but good, the one standout is the Snowcap Ale. The food is standard pub fare, I expected better, maybe because its the Bay Area. All in all I would have no problem returning.

I stopped by for dinner while attending a conference in nearby Emeryville. I had had Pyramid Apricot and a couple of others in NC but had to try the real McCoy on draft and check out the other offerings. I wasn't disapointed. Tried a sampler of five excellent beers and finished with a pint of the suitably hoppy IPA. Dinner was sausages and sauerkraut, very satisfying. The bartender was friendly and chatted though he was busy. Definitely worth a stop.

A wide selection of great ales. They had a few ales that were out of stock that I would have like to have tried. There was one interesting one, 5000-year-old ale, which I'm assuming it crafted after the 5000-year-old recipe found in Egypt. Oh well, maybe next time.

Good beers and sodas but I like my drinks w/ out children around... The dining room felt more like a very noisy playground. Tilted Tuesdays was seasonal w/ a special Scottish ale and a Scottish musician. Food was allright and service was good. Room is too narrow and feels claustrophobic. Also design is childish.

I agree with all the comments of the prior 3 reviewers. This establishment covers two stories in a warehouse-like setting, which amplifies the noise level to quite a din. I prefer the beers at the heavier end of their scale. The Snowcap Ale is excellent, and the Imperial Stout (none left until next year?) was outstanding. There are about 7 or so brews generally available. The lighter brews are OK, but Spring and Summer are lean times with nothing for us high-gravity types. Good food, well staffed, OK for large groups & families.

Great Beer, Great Atmosphere. I especially like the snow cap ale. Also, for those of you out there who like punk rock music(and the various forms of it) there is a great club across the street that has shows on friday and saturday nights. Or, if you like World Music type stuff a FANTASTIC club right up the street called Ashkenaz is very very cool too. rocknrollnbeer.

I stopped in last night (11/10/2001) after the Cal vs. USC football game. The place was busy, even at 5:00 Pm or so. the beer selection was outstanding, with something for evryone. The Draft Pale Ale (DPA) seemed a bit inconsistent, with the first seeming as if it came from a conventional keg and the second as if it came from a hand pump - go figure. I had a steak that was prepared just the way that I like it and the clam chowder is home made. the IPA clocks in at 65 IBUs and was tasty. the new Snow Cap seasonal was OK and was not as cloying sweet as some other Christmas beers are. The capstone was the Russian Imperial Stout which is damn near a barley wine in strength and taste. This was a great way to finish off what was otherwise a dismal day in the rain for Cal football fans. Would I go back? Yes, every time I'm in town. On a scale of one to five mugs, I'd give this a score of 4 1/2 mugs! Cheers.

The Thomas Kemper Wheat was the best beer that they had on tap. It is no longer sold. A fun place to go and drink beer and have a snack. The bar is great, but very, very noisy.

Of the several Pyramid Ale house I've been to, my only complaint has to be in the service department. Both the Seattle and Berkeley brewpubs seemed to have too-few servers for various busy times, like happy hour, after a baseball game, or Friday/Saturday night... Ussually, though, the D.P.A. makes it all worth the effort...! //TSB

Upon arrival we wanted to go on the tour. After tasting their beers we decided we didn't want to know how they made these off tasting sour beers. One of the most disappointing stops for us in Northern California.

I had a great time here while sampling 14 different beers. The t-shirts are cheap and they have xxl sizes for those with a beer gut, a flaw that I found in some of the other Berkeley brewpubs.

Pyramid has good beer, and varied enough to be an incentive to come back and try others. Compared with other microbreweries, Pyramid has mediocre food to compliment its beer. The food is also very heavy. A fun, upbeat place to watch a game with friends.

The beer here is good, maybe even very good, but it is no longer great. Pyramid has grown and moved much in the past ten years, and with each change the quality of the beer seems to suffer. The wide range of styles they brew somehow all taste quite similar. I wasn't surprised to learn that nearly all of the ales use the same yeast. The new Berkeley brewery is completely automated, and a brewer proudly told me that they rely on chemical analysis, rather than taste, to judge the beers as they are being brewed; this fact is evident in the increasing blandness of the brews. (On the other hand, the diaper changing table in the men's room is a plus.)
