Easy to locate (only a few miles from I-40) as we were on our way past Chapel Hill on the way to the coast. Good location on the main street. Beer selection was typical for a brewery. I didn't notice any unapproved beers. I only had time for the pale and the wheat, both of which were great. Menu seemed typical for a brew pub. Ample bar area. We were there just as they opened for lunch on a Saturday so service was quick and friendly. If you're passing Chapel Hill make a point to stop in and check out Carolina Brewery.

Carolina Brewing has kind of an industrial feel to the decor, quite different from the white linens at Chapel Hill's competing brewpub. They had 7 house beers on tap. I tried two; an IPA and a stout, and found them to be solidly average. Nothing bad, nothing special.

The Carolina Brewery has many varieties of beer. In fact they have so many that they must rotate them which is a problem when some of those are so spectacular that they should be brewed all year round. Their flagship beer, an IPA, recently won a gold medal. Their stouts are very tasty and true to style. If Hell 'n' Boch is on type, drink all you can and take home a growler as this seasonal quaff is tops.

Bring from Happy Valley (College Football Heaven), we understand what it must be like trying to eat anywhere in the triangle during BB season the night of a game. But we tried anyhow. Sure. All seats were sold to watch the game between the local college and the college down the road in Durham, in Durham. Too bad. We'll try it again in the off-season.

Defintely a less pretentious vibe than Top of the Hill just down the street, much smaller, comfortable. Beers this trip, unlike visits in other years, didn't measure up, however. Amber and Maibock were very similar, neither was very spectacular. IPA was nice, as was the Stout. I noticed a general funkiness in the middle of the flavor that I couldn't identify. Not foul, but definitely detracted from the overall impression. Usually a good stop, will try it again when in the area.

We live about 4hrs East of Chapel Hill and only vist the Brewery about 4 times a year. We always look fwd to what's on tap with which to fill our growlers-John's recipes are very tasty. We often eat at the bar and have never been disappointed with the fare.Good selection of meals or bar munchies. Sometimes the servers are slow but, hey, it's a college town and the staff can be easily distracted, LOL. Overall it's worth the visit. Casual atmosphere with tasty brews and good chow. What more need one ask for in life?

Cool place! The beer (I tried the porter, an Irish and something else) was all well made - had good body and malt flavor - but all three had a kind of a non-hops bitterness that stuck to the back-middle of my tongue. Like tannins drawn out of the grain husks, maybe. Not at all bad beer, but get rid of this distraction and it would be wonderful stuff... Did I say cool place?

Carolina Brewery has great beer and their food is excellent (for a brewpub). The atmosphere is inviting and the service is very good.

One of the pleasures of living in the Triangle is enjoying John's latest batch of beer. The IPA is among the best available anywhere and any of the stouts rate at the top of the scale. Ask for Thomas as he is the best waiter on the staff. He is knowlegable about beer and puts the customer at the top of his list of importance. One of the best buys is the soup/sandwich combo for lunch.

Best beer anywhere around no question. The only rival is Top of the Hill's Kenan Lager. We ride our bikes 22 miles from Cary every Saturday for a pint of the West End WHeat and the IPA is outstanding.

A selection of styles, but not the greatest quality, kind of like OK homebrew. Good service and good chow, eve when crowded after the game.

My family loves to eat at the Carolina Brewery when we go to home games in Chapel Hill. We have been several times and loved it every time(we were just there Sat., Nov. 9) The sauces for dipping bar-b-que, chicken bites, and homemade chips are awesome. Unfortunately, they no longer serve a honey-butter sauce for hushpuppies that was great, too. The atmosphere is great - lots of college students. TVs have various sports being shown. There's a good parking lot behind the restaurant for free parking. (Know this place is a brewery, but we're non-drinkers and still enjoyed it!)

They had a good selection of beer, but it tended toward the lighter side. I tried the IPA and bock and both were excellent. Food was good and service was quite good. Near the center of campus stuff, so parking is a bit hard to find, but worth a trip or two around the block. Per my server, they had just celebrated their 7th anniversary

I really liked this place. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The beers were good, but nothing special. The Brown Ale was VERY smooth, not heavy with a good body. The Anniversary Ale was cloudy with a fruuity finish. The Amber Ale was very mellow with the hops overpowering the malts. The Golden Ale was a very good example of this variety. The Bock was bit with with great body. Their IPA, though good, was not dry enough, needs more hops. Overall the place is really fun and worth a trip to.

I've been to the Carolina Brewery twice. Overall, the beer is pretty good but not equal to Top of the Hill just up the street. The porters and darker ales tend to be better than the summer seasonals and wheats. The food is quite good and the staff very friendly. A nice atmosphere with an upstairs balcony for additional seating.

Very attractive and well-tended brewpub on the UNC strip. Had the sampler and liked them all, esp. the porter and brown ales.

Best brewpub in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham and CH). If you like good beer, go here first if you are in the area.

The three hour trip from the beach to the Hill is a pleasure as long as an IPA and a mufaletta sandwich are waiting at the end. Outstanding brew-pub
