We found this place online before a trip to Jacksonville. David the bartender was great! We sampled the home brew selection, and I'm not a beer person, but I liked the Sweet Magnolia Brown Ale. Bill enjoyed the Red Brick Ale. The food was really good, we shared the seafood appetizer with crab cake, seared tuna and boiled shrimp then had the filet with crab stuffed shrimp for dinner, nice presentation for a pub! We'll make Ragtime a regular stop on return trips! Thanks David for making our visit such fun!

Another member of the G-B corporation, but serving thier own beers, from thier own recipes. The usually have 6 on tap, 4 standards, and 2 seasonals. I had the sampler, followed by an American Pale (great brew with lots of hops, almost an IPA), and a killer hellerbock, which was absolutely awesome! The food is amazing. You're in Flordia, enjoy the seafood. The Ragtime Shrimp (coconut shrimp) is the best, and the flounder and the salmon are as well. Service is great, with an egaged, caring staff. Look up Alani, the Asst Brewer. He is very into beer, and loves to talk about it.

THIS IS THE BEST LOCAL MICRO BREWERY IN JAX/DUVAL AREA. THE CURRENT BREWMASTER HAS REALLY IMPROVED ON THEIR ORIGINAL BREW. THEY HAVE 4 MAINSTAY BEERS AND USUALLY 2 SEASONALS. THEY ALSO HAVE A BEER ON CASK. IF YOU EVER VISIT, GO IN AND SPEAK WITH SCOTT THE BREWMASTER. HE'S FRIENDLY AND ALWAYS WILLING TO SPEAK ABOUT HIS CRAFT. THIS IS CURRENTLY THE BEST CRAFT BREW YOU WILL HAVE ON FLORIDAS EAST COAST.

This brewpub is a couple of blocks from the beach but isn't really set up for an ocean view. A rooftop deck would have a great view but the only outside tables they have are in an unpleasent alleyway behind the restaurant. My wife and I came in at 11 am and ordered a sampler. The brewmaster happened to notice and talked to us for awhile. He and the bartendar were both very friendly. The brewmaster is doing a great job. I'm wondering if he is new because he seemed fairly young and some of the negative comments about the beers just don't fit the beers we tried. I got the impression that the brewmaster is pushing the limit on what the owners will allow him to brew (I believe they own a few brewpubs in the area). He has to use the name A Strange Stout but for St. Patrick's Day, he made a stronger version of it (this was very good). The Westbury Wheat is another beer that he apparently has to make but he is allowed to make different types of wheat beers under that name. The wheat beer when we were there was an excellent version of a German Weizen. The brewmaster said that he usually has either an IPA or a pale ale as one of the two seasonals he is allowed to make. All of the beers were very good and were true to style. The Red Brick Ale, which has received some negative comments in pubcrawler, tasted great to my wife and I. We like hoppy ales and we've been to about 400 brewpubs over the years. The Red Brick Ale is a hoppy ale with a fairly strong alcohol content. The Yulee Pale Ale was also excellent. I recommend the place highly and those disappointed in the past should give it another try. The brewmaster is doing an oustanding job within his corporate limits and deserves support.

The beer was the standard Jax offering, sub-par. No one in this city can brew good beer, its not really bad just some what tasteless or overhopped. We ended up here after a afternoon-night of drinking so my recolection of the food isn't really clear, it seemed fine. The atmosphere however is decided un-brewpub -like, this place is definitly the place to go to do some "fishing", highlight of the visit was a 60ish guy with dyed red hair hitting on a 30 something, very amuseing. Good place if your looking for the party scene, beer is nothing special though, which is what its all about so it drops to a so-so.

My favorite restaurant/bar in the Jax area. I travel there from Orange Park on almost each visit (2 or 3 times per year). The food is GREAT (my favorite is the Sesame Seared Tuna); the gumbo is real good, and when in season (early spring, usually) they're EXCELLENT! And, they usually have a decent band, with lots of "scenery" and sometimes even some dancing going on. A great place to go out for the evening; a fairly quiet dinner downstairs by the saltwater fish tanks, or a more "happenin'" night out up by the bars.

The beers were, overall, good, but not great. The Light Lager tasted remarkably like a certain light beer from Holland; Brown (seasonal) was very heavy on the malt; another seasonal, the Pale Ale, was very solid--by far the best of the beers; the Irish Red was not bad--I'm not a red fan, but this did not have the lingering aftertaste of many reds; Red Brick Ale was as bland as ever; and the Stout was very pleasing--very creamy and smooth. Food was quite good--the portions were fairly massive--more than I could eat. Service at the bar was prompt and attentive.

We called here on the way from Southend Brewery at Jax to Paradise Alley. Not been here for five years, last time they were just prettifying the sidewalks. Beer, especially Red Brick, excellent. Service, atmosphere and company good too. If we'd known Paradise Alley shut early on Sundays, we'd have dropped off the car at the hotel first and walked back (only a mile from Jax Beach).

The best brewpub in the Jacksonville area. Their food is excellent!!!! The staff was very friendly and helpful also. Their Red Brick Ale is very good, though it is hopped more then a normal ale. Their Stout, advertised as being in the Porter tradition, is truly a Porter. And a very good one at that! I liked this place so much on my recent visit to the area that I went back a second time. Don't waste your time on the other area brewpubs - for great food and very good beer, come here!!

This brewery is the Sister brewery to A1A in St. Augustine. The beers here are pretty much the same, although they didn't taste quite as clean. Still great beers though. And the prices were lower than at A1A.

I travel to JAX often and this is where I spend *all* my time. The food is world-class. The beer is quite good although nothing spectacular. Cheap pints, even with a recent price increase. Still under $3 I believe.

Easily one of the best restaurants in the United States! The beers are real hit or miss, but the hoppy Red Brick is excellent. Ragtime was recently purchased by Big River, but it hasn't affected either the food or the beer. Always a highlight of my visits to Jacksonville.

Interesting regional bands perform Th-Sun. Don't miss the seared Sesame Tuna as their signature entree. Also ever since the buyout of local ownership by regional chain Big River Breweries (Chatanooga, TN), the formerly signature Crabacado sandwich (lunch only)has been cheapened by using guacamole dip in place of real sliced avacado (Oh, well the Accounting Dept. has to earn a living too). But the still good red beans & rice are a meal bargain @ $2.00. Worth checking out overall.

When I visited, they only had 3 beers on tap. When I asked the Bartender for the hoppiest, he didn't know what I meant or was asking for. The bar staff should know at least the basic beer lingo. Beer was thin and relatively tasteless.
