Excellent beers -- enjoyed the excellent Vienna-style Lager, the Brown Ale with its hint of chocolate, a very good Weisse that would have been helped if it had been served with a slice of lemon, the Oktoberfest which smelled and tasted like fresh baked bread, and the best Pumpkin Ale I can recall tasting. A decent tour -- the employee who led it was entertaining and helpful, and it was free. Unfortunately, there is no sampling during the tour, despite the fact that samples were mentioned both on the website and on a local TV show. Both were mentioned to the staff, though it did not change having to pay for the beer. One other complaint -- make the Chocolate Stout available for tasting.

the perfect lager, above average pilsner, good brown, and very good chocolate stout. its a great idea to pick a variety pack especially when you have commercial beer lovers around. let them try this and they will see what they are missing. the brewer knows how to use that fine NYC water and everyone knows thats great water to brew with.

Love the Brooklyn Lager. Staff was very generous with the free tokens after the tour. Was able to try all the beers on tap--and loved most of them. I will definitely be back again. Garrett is obviously an accomplished brewer, from his great beers at the brewery to being a guest on Emeril Live and writing reviews in All About Beer. Cheers to Garrett and the rest of the Brooklyn Brewery staff. I look forward to my next visit!

We went to BB for their anual BBQ, I am a fan of their beers to begin with, but I was not prepared for how amazing the beer is at the brewery. The Bklyn IPA is a religous experience, it might have something to do with the high alcohol content!!

I did not try the food, but the beer was good. I live outside of NYC in Westchester County and have tried the beer in the bottle, and occaisonally on tap at other bars and was dying to go to the actual place. The beer was how I expected it to be, because the bar I go to with it on tap gets it regularly and fresh. The best beer is the double chocholate stout with a dark color, chocolate maltiness the doesn't over power the other malt and bitter hopiness. My personal favorate is the Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale which I find to be moderatly hoppy with a nice nutty undertone provided by the malt. I also enjoyed their Monster Ale, which isn't for everybody as it is (or like) a barlywine. This beer has an immense amount of malt made for having a "warm-me-up" during the winter season. It has a rich malt sweetness, heavy and chewy in the mouth with strong (as the American style is) hop flavors as it is brought down the back of the throat and into your eagrly waiting stomach. The atmosphere was great and I would recommend this as a good stop for the weekend (it is only open then.)

The Beer is GREAT!! The Brewery is Beautiful!! BUT the damn place is ONLY open on Friday's and Saturday's from 5 till 10 pm !!!! I was in N.Y. on vacation and went to the Brewery on a Wednesday afternoon wanting to get a t-shirt and had to beg and plead with the office staff to sell me one !! BUT they did !! So if you go there and want merchandise any other time than Friday or Saturday night, go up to the offices and tell them some sob story about how you can't come back on Friday or Saturday ( I really could not make it back ) and hopefully they will take your money... When I went up the stairs to the offices I ran smack into Garrett Oliver, but realized too late that it was him... I would love to make it back there for the beer tastings on a Friday or Saturday.

I recently enjoyed brewmaster Garrett Oliver's visit to Baltimore's "Max's on Broadway," though due to the crowd, I couldn't sample all of the beers. Brooklyn Pilsner struck me as a malty, flavorful Pils with little bitterness and a clean finish. Brooklyn Lager, a Vienna/Marzen, had a nicely balanced malty sweetness and a malty finish. Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale '55 (celebrating the world championship of the Brooklyn Dodger, but ironically brewed with MARIS Otter Malt), described by Mr. Oliver as an ESB, is a fine pale ale with a nice hop finish. Mr. Oliver described Brooklyn East India Pale Ale (EIPA) as being close to the historic IPA style with its high alcohol content (7% abv). I can't dispute that, but for my own tastes, I found the alcohol flavor competed too much with the hop flavor; still, I liked it. Mr. Oliver described Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout as his "resume beer," brewed at his previous job in order to get his current job; it's a Russian Imperial Stout. Garrett Oliver is one of the most interesting and charasmatic brewers I've met. Having been told that the EIPA was previously a seasonal, I asked if any of the seasonals hadn't caught on. He told me that the Brooklyn Dry Stout, available in the spring, has had difficulty breaking into the crowded market, but they'll try again as it is one of his favorite styles. He also mentioned, to the entire room, that this winter's Brooklyn Monster Ale (barleywine), due anyday, will be extra strong: 12.3% abv.

Short hop over the East River, if you've ever enjoyed Brooklyn in bars you need to visit Happy Hour (6-10 on Fridays in summer, 6-9 winter?). Non-bottled beers are the stars, as the Blanche de Brooklyn and the Weisse are outstanding wheat varieties that don't pop up often in NYC bars. Looking forward to a winter visit for the Abbey and Monster Barleywine. And the beers go for just $2.50 a pint! A great deal!

A true brewery with some terrific beers on tap. Go on Sat. for brewery tour and tastings. Brooklyn Brewery's chocolate stout is top of the line. In winter the 'Monster' will knock your sox off. Garrett Oliver is the head brewmaster and is one of the best in the business. No connection to BB just love their beers and love BROOKLYN!
