Thought I had departed the lager scene forever but Thai Orchid Restaurant and Brew Pub in Coral Gables, FL (317 Miracle Mile, 33134, 305.443.6364) brought me back. Their 6 'house brews' are done off premises by brewer John Boyle at the Grain-Fest Brewery, Inc (4859 SW 75th Ave in Miami). In addition to their excellent and authentic Thai cuisine (not that I would know other than my experiences from South East Asia during the Viet Nam war), they have a dark bock, Oktoberfest, brown rice bock, pils, hefeweizen and corn bock -- all explained and with Thai names in a small booklet available for your perusal at your table. With two Oktoberfests and a dark bock for dessert, I happily award them an 8.5 on my personal 10 scale when a 7 is something I will happily partake of again.
Attentive 'waitpersons' and an attractive interior add to the experience though there is almost no knowledge of beer or brewing evident. There is no bar and this is strictly a restaurant which happens to stock great lagers!

Very interesting beers. Ther are not, as I had previously thought, mimicking Thai beer styles (even though they have Thai names). Apparently, they are brewed using macrobiotic dietary principles. All six of the beers I had were sweeter and more sour than their classical counterparts (Pilsner and maerzen) --- if there is a classical counterpart ("corn bock").

Food is very nice, but all the beers are cloudy and of irregular quality. Not worth a stop, even in beer-starved Miami.

The beer was good but the service was terrible. Not many beers to select from either.
