Visited Bullfrog Brewery a month or so ago while stopping in Williamsport. The place was well hyped in my mind and failed to totally deliver on my visit.
Entered Bullfrog at about 9:30PM on a Friday expecting to have a meal and sample some of their beer. Young black fellow manning the door demanded $10 as cover to watch the band that soon-was-to-play. After telling him that my sidekick and new born weren't in the partying mood and were again here to eat dinner I reluctantly forked over $10 to allow entry. Then and only then said fellow went and located a staff member to seat us. Mind you they serve dinner until 11PM on Friday.
The place was busy, but nowhere near capacity. Having sat by the kitchen we got to see the back seating room empty totally and half of the bar area do the same.
Food was good, fresh and perhaps even too ambitious. A mushroom pizza came with a fancy improvised name. While good, the price was a tad much considering the wafer thin crust and personal pizza size. Hummus in the Mediterranean sampler left a lot to be desired - it certainly lacked tahini/sesame and had the texture and flavor of a powder mixed hummus.
A veggie main dish and salads were quite good.
As for the beer, huge list to sample from. Good range in what they are brewing. We shared a sampler but withhold any commentary on such as the winter weather and a fading cold left the tastebuds less than clear.
Waitstaff was very friendly (minus the door guy - does he work there or did the band bring him along?). Staff seemed like the type of alternative individual minded people we like as friends - smart, attractive and thought provoking.
We left about mid set on the band - a mix of jazz and funk that was blaring way too loud for the intimate long narrow old galley style space. Hardly worth $10 extorted cover charge.
If I am back in Williamsport I would consider an alternative dining option elsewhere due to the upcharge for entertainment and having my meal drowned by the noise. Quite a shame I think since some of the food was fairly good and the service impressive.

My friend and I were traveling back home from Virginia and spied the poster for the brewery coming into Williamsport. We stopped in for a taste and were were stunned by the quality of the brews and the knowledge of the staff. What a wonderful place to visit. I had the IPA and my friend went for a Cast Conditioned Scottish ale. .....Wonderful. I really want to praise the brewmaster for has efforts. We talked with the bartender about how the brewmaster was dedicated to quality. Success My crew in rochester would like to take a field trip to your brewery.

One of the nicest brewpubs I have ever been in. Had the opportunity to sample 12 (12!) different beers, all well made. The Chocolate Bock, Phree & Red Star were memorable, but enjoyed them all. The two appetizers we had were excellent (bruschetta & a real crab dip, better than a lot of places in Maryland make) & the service was perfect. A great experience!

I have to echo the comments of the last reviewer and commend the brewer for taking some risks and offering a diverse body of brews. We visited the brewpub twice and in our 4-brewpub swing through the region, this was the only one that was not part of a chain or string of pubs of some sort. Both weekday nights the place filled up with regulars who obviously are fond of the Bullfrog. The staff was very friendly, and they were happy to have kids in the place. They also appeared to have a decent selection of Scotch; I noticed a bottle of Oban, along with more common offerings. My favorite beer was the Coffee Cream Stout, which was less sweet than the Oatmeal Stout. Over the two nights, we sampled all of the beers thanks to the short walk to the Hampton Inn a few blocks away. The smoked porter is certainly "smoked" and reminds me of the Alaskan Ale Smoked Porter. This is a sipping beer. The Apricot Wheat was surprisingly good, but I find the fruited beers set a low bar generally. I was very impressed with the Blonde; it had real flavor and character, more so than the usual blonde, which seems to be brewed for the American Pilsner or American Lager drinker. The Chocolate Bock was reminiscent of Young's Chocolate Stout and sure to please those who like chocolate flavor in their ale. The Irish Red was my spouse's favorite and ultimately what we took in a growler. The IPA was all right, a nice hoppy nose, but not a great finisher - I am probably spoiled living the Pacific Northwest. As with all of the brewpubs on this trip, they had a Belgian but I do not have much of a base of experience with them to pronounce on its quality. Obviously, I went back to the Bullfrog once and would again. In short, I recommend the Bullfrog.

Found the Bullfrog through a web search and really liked the selection of brews available. Talked with some friends and set up the 3-hour drive (one way) for Sat 3/29/08. The Bullfrog didn't disappoint. On tap were: Billtown Blonde, Tripel Trubbel, Apricot Wheat, Susquehanna Oatmeal Stout, Edgar IPA, Unique (Belgian Abbey Singel), Coffee Cream Stout, Chocolate Bock, Smoked Porter, Irish Red Ale. While I didn't find anything to dislike, the Chocolate Bock, Smoked Porter & Susquehanna Stout were great. The Chocolate Bock was one of the best chocolates I've had and my friends loved the Coffee Cream Stout. Unlike another rater - we all found the food to be excellent.
Different from many Brewpubs who tend to play it safe with their beer list, the Bullfrog has a core selection of good brews but also has a number of fantastic different suds to explore. We're already planning a return trip in early June...

Finally got a chance to come here. They were out of their Tree Hugger Ale, but the Edgar IPA, and the Susquehanna Stout were both top notch, good flavor, and real character. Food was good, and service was too.

This place is good for the beer---and the beer only!! My family is from Williamsport so I always stop in the Bullfrog when I'm in town and it never ceases to amaze me how this place remains open! The food is terrible (It's either severely overcooked or raw...) and the service is unpredictable. The beer is the only thing that makes the trip to the Bullfrog worthwhile...

Like some others, the food had a few problems like the sweet potato fries were limp. The service was on time, but the waitresses/waiters seemed generally upset like they were all told they are getting less pay or something. The jazz band they had there at the time was very good and made me forget the wait staff's attitude and the limp fries. Also, I like the way the place is laid out--very open with that high ceiling. The beer selection was okay, but they were out of the Oatmeal Stout. I had the sampler and thought some were interesting, but I really only liked a few. I decided not to take home a growler.

I hadn't been to Bullfrog in 6 years but I was on my way home from Philly and decided to stop in. On tap were Edgar IPA, Alternative ale, old treehugger, diabolique, Billtown blond, Williamsporter, inspiration red, and the guest was Church Brew works honey nut. Since I had many about 100 miles yet to drive I only had th IPA and thw Williamsporter. Both were as great as I remembered. Luckly, before I left Hornell, I thought about stopping here so I tossed my growler in the car and cold take some IPA home. 6 years is too long!

I can always count on some new brews every time I visit Bullfrog--this stop didn't disappoint. Dubbel Vision was malty, with dried fruit notes, very effervescent (in fact, I noticed lots of carbonation in most of the beer I tasted this trip). Unique was described as a Belgian/American pale ale, good mix of hops and spices. Scottish on cask was OK, while the Old St. Nique was a Belgian Xmas--smooth. Smoked porter had a pretty good balance with lots of flavors going on: smoke, dark malt, coffee... Hop Drop was a nice amber which kept your interest throughout. Edgar IPA is my all time favorite here--it just gets better each time I taste it. Salad was huge, service good, all in all a great stop!

We went there for some dinner and a couple of drinks back in November. I was suprised by the fact that the place looked quite run down based on some reviews I had read on this site.
The beer was good, but the selection was a bit limited. It seems that they had run out of a few things....apparently we got there between beer releases. I had an IPA and a porter that were pretty good.
The food was just OK, not bad...and the service was a bit slow.
I might give it another shot if I am in Williamsport again next year, but I don't know that I would go out of my way to get there.

The beer selection has a great variety from Ale's, IPA's, Stout's, Fruit's, and Pilsners. I had sampled all of them in the last year or so and was impressed with everyone. Now onto the service. I have been here 3 times and each time the food was just flat out bad. I have been there when it was totally packed and when it was just a handful of people, so I don't know why the quality was bad. The wings(regular hot) had potential if they weren't under a heat lamp dried up and crusted to the plate. Another time I had a pasta entree dish and was suprised how cold it was and no one noticed, plus it was so under seasoned and overcooked it tasted like regular pasta from the strainer and felt like mush. Your beer is the only thing worth coming for now.

I was in for lunch last week --- fantastic --- never been there before, even though we have been in Williamsport often. My server Judy was very knowledgeable and before we knew it we were all sipping on some home made rootbeer and eating Tuna salads (med rare) by her reccomendation. She and the bartender (forget his name at the moment) were very courteous and helpful for the hour or so we were there .... Great DRINKS, FOOD, SERVICE... what more could you ask for... thanks so much and we will be back!

I contuinue to be impressed with the beers of Bullfrog. It seems like every visit is a new experience with something I haven't tried yet, but with the guarantee that an old favorite will be there as well. Three new to me my last visit: Busted Lawnmower Saison, Inspiration Red and Golden Promise Scottish Lager. All were good-- I especially liked the saison. However, if Edgar IPA is on, I know it'll be a good trip. This batch was no exception; it had lots of the hop bite I've come to love. Great lunch salad for my trip homeward. All in all a great place that's climbing up my "best of" list.

This place really let me down. I first sampled their beer at the SC BeerExpo a few days earlier. I needed to go to Lock Haven for something and decided to stop by the brewery in the hopes that the beer I sampled at the expo was not indicative of the quality of their entire selection. Well.... I had the stout when I was there, have to say I've had quite a bit better. I ordered some fries which took 30 minutes to get to me, and the place was pretty empty.
My main quam was with the service, it could have been the worst I've every experienced anywhere. As my fries arrived after 30 minutes, the keep set them down and just walked away. I had to go grab some napkins myself, by reaching over the bar. I couldn't get his attention because he was over talking to some friends about the placement of the brewing tanks.
While were on the tanks....he proceeded to stand there and talk about how they don't have the proper pressure release valves installed on them. He said that because the pressure was too great, he was worried about the tanks exploding and taking out the entire bar, "there wouldn't be anyone left", he said, "they would all just be blown away". Wow! Makes me wanna stay there and hang out! Of course he reasurred us by saying that he would stand in front of the 316 gallon tanks, shielding us from the blow...
I needed some ketcup, but he was still ranting about the body parts of the patrons strewn about the inards of what would be left of the bar.... A waitress walked by. I asked her kindly if I could have some ketcup, she looked around and said "I guess your sh*t out of luck", unfortunatly she didn't smile like she was joking, and even if she was, I didn't know her and she didn't know me, that's horrible buisness practice.
She went and told the keep and he brought me over an almost entirely empty bottle, I had to sit there with it upside down and wait for the crust on the sides of the bottle to drain down....My father came back and said "wheres the vinegar", I said, "don't even ask".
Although the atmosphere might appeal to some patrons, I found it pretty depressing, it was like a glass house, and I don't really like knowing that I'm drinking at 2:00 in the afternoon, sun shining brightly to the point of me almost needing glasses. Everything just seemed crammed into a tiny corner lot.
If your going to check the place out, and maybe get a growler to go, or a quick beer, so be it. But I would personally fear for your safety and sanity if you stayed any longer.
'Til the beer flows no more... Kyle

Stopped by around noon on Saturday 7/1 and had a seat at the bar. This was the 2nd overall time that I have been to the Bullfrog. There were 11 beers on tap. I ordered a large Edgar IPA at $4.50. HOP DAMN.... was that tasty! Of the six brewpubs that I visited over the holiday weekend, the Edgar IPA at the Bullfrog was by far my favorite beer. At 7.8 ABV I had to stop at one as I had considerable driving ahead of me. I would have ordered lunch which would have led to a 2nd beer order but I was never even offered a menu which is why the SO SO service rating. That slight by the bartender was really the only blemish on my visit. I liked the atmosphere with all of the tanks lined up directly behind the bar and I thought that the gallon size growlers to go was a great idea as I had never seen them offered in that size before. I would recommend the Bullfrog to anyone that has not been and I will stop again my next trip down that way.

I love this place. My son goes to baseball camp in Williamsport and I look forward to visiting the Bullfrog Brewery as much as he looks forward to camp. I like how the current beers are lined up behind the bar in their big copper vats and you can see the what beer is "on deck" when the current one is finished.

Finally made the Sunday Jazz Brunch at the Bullfrog, and certainly enjoyed it. Good jazz trio (I think it was a trio; I had my back to them through the whole meal, thanks to my family!), excellent food (two minor complaints: the bread for the bruschetta, though tasty, was too fresh and too narrow, and the potato pancakes were way too heavy; everything else was simply outstanding), on-the-dot service, and delicious beer. I only had two, the red and the Old Toad barleywine. The red was a great eating beer, the Old Toad was spectacularly good, and not an excuse to dump the hop bale in the kettle, either. Surprise bonus: the Old Toad was an exquisitely apt match for the white chocolate/orange layer cake we got. Great time, we'll be back...again!

Chris and I visited last nite, saturday. I had a pale ale that was worth the 1 hour drive, for me. very citrousy. I suspect lottsa cascade. I had too many so she drove home. The sesame encrusted tuna was delicious. I chose french fries as a pasta. They were okay but not homemade fresh. Salad is of varied greens rather than the tiresome traditional head leattuce many places serve. If in the area you should stop by. Reservations Friday, Sat would be good idea. We most always dine at the bar and occassionally have to wait for seats, although we got the last 2 this time.

There's not much left to be said about Bullfrog and headbrewer Terry H. If you're reading these reviews on this site, you obviously like good beer with character, and Terry is going to consistently put out a great selection of really great beer. Without a doubt, I'm biased because he's a friend of mine, and I served beer for him at the last place he brewed, but the beer is great, period. He's a big fan of the Belgian styles, and I think it's safe to say that he's a big fan of big beers as well. Beside him, Bullfrog is a great place, in a great space. Kudos to whoever owns and runs the place on doing it your own way and doing well. If you haven't been here, don't be afraid to go out of your way to check it out. It's highly enjoyable, and always great beer. Now if he can just get a much deserved GABF medal.

went to the bullfrog once and would not hesitate to return again and again. its a small place with a huge beer selection (i think like around 10). you sit at the bar and behind it is the steel tanks. try the wings they are big and meaty. the service was nice. the bartender didnt want to fill a sampler for me but instead offered me up a taste of any beer. very friendly and a cool place to chill. i tried all there beers and left with a growler of there ipa. my friend just got into brew pubs and he really loved this one. cool symbol for there place. i collect pint glasses and its my favorite.
