Finally made it to Martha's. Having visited relatives in the area and shopped at a couple beer stores on DW Highway, I've no excuse for going years without driving a few extra miles to Martha's Exchange.
Located on Main Street and easily spotted by the classy signage on a short block of buildings with a working fountain on the corner. Dunno why, but not what I expected. My wife and I absolutely loved the atmosphere of Martha's. Very different from your average brewpub, it has a large horseshoe bar that splits the room in two with plenty of bar seating, tables and unique rounded booths to the right and a small chocolate shop, banquettes to the left. Eclectic mix of drapery, colorful vases and metal and glass sconce-type lighting lend a more elegant feel than brick and/or exposed wood, which is also present along the bar. Four flat screen TVs lined the left side of the bar (with more on the opposite side), but aren't obtrusive or look out of place. Even the bathrooms impressed, with interesting tile patterns/colors on the wall and daring glass bowl sinks, with jet engine blow dryers that get you in and out quickly.
Menu was extensive and we had a hard time choosing meals. Meatloaf sounded like a delicious traditional meal and the lamb & feta wrap looked interesting but we finally settled on some Portabella quesadillas, Jambalaya and Chicken w/ wild mushroom ravilois. Portions were just right, if not generous and the prices seemed fair.
I'd tried Martha's beers as fests samples and via growlers but never sat down with a full fresh pint. Glad I did. The McGann's IPA on cask was superb and effortless to put away - so drinkable. Maybe served a touch warm, but no points lost with me. My wife's McGann's draft was also a stellar drink. I also enjoyed a full pint of the Munjoie Saison, which I'd sampled before, and also found the drinkability excellent with a fruity crispness cutting through the leftover heat from my jambalaya. My wife followed with a pint of their Ofest and claimed it was one of her favorites so far this season. Should've picked up a growler of McGann's to go, but with shopping, movies, etc. on the horizon, I opted not to leave my beer in the car for several hours.
Service was friendly, with good timing, and despite our server's cursory knowledge of the beers on tap, she never hesitated to offer a sample before ordering a full pint or to run to the bar to ask questions. Good job.
A trip to the small chocolate shop (really just a few display cases to the left of the entrance) capped our meal and provided some munchies for the movies. Chocolate covered caramels, topped with toasted coconut - get some!
Prices were fair for the meals, considering the portions and quality, and the beers were downright cheap - $3.75 for draft pints, $4 for cask. Chocolate was pricey at $19/lb. but a handful of assorted pieces only ran me $4 and was the perfect amount for 2.
On tap (10/21/06): McGann's Ale (English IPA), Dark Rosaleen Stout, Oktoberfest, Munjoie Saison, Volstead 33, RyeZen Beer, McGann's Ale on cask.

Service seems to vary, but most of the time the waitress has been pretty attentive. This is my favorite date night place to go. Their food menu has something for every taste. Their beer tends to be a little too bitter for my personal taste, but has been otherwise great.

Food was good, the service was horrible! The waitress couldn't get our drink order right and it took her a half hour to even deliver our drinks! Don't order the same drink twice, they just won't be the same taste or COLOR the second time around!

Probaly the worst service I ever had. Two barteneders, about 5 people sitting at the bar, and still took 10 minutes to get a beer. I tried their vanilla bean stout which I thought was great. Very different from traditional stouts but full of flavor. Also tryed their IPA which was pretty good and a cask conditioned brown ale. I'm typically not a fan of brown ale's but the cask one was great. Full of sweet malty flavor served at room temperate. But the best part was that all of the waitresses were absolutely beautiful.

I've eaten lunch at Martha's before and it's good. I wasn't pleased that they charged for two Pepsi's when most restaurants give free refills. I especially like their saturday nights. Their DJ is really good and there are plenty of hotties in there. Friday nights are packed but they charge a cover on that night. No cover on saturday night.

Been going here for years. Thursday nights used to be good, now they suck. Hot bartenders keep me coming back. They need to evolve w/ the times and stop charging cover on Thursdays.

On the main street downtown, lots of available parking. Interior is brick/wood/wrought iron--nice. I had not been here for about 8 years and was looking forward to refreshing my memory. Regrettably, with the exception of the Velvet Elvis Vanilla Stout (the vanilla is an excellent touch, was not overly sweet, proportionate overall), the beers were disappointing. There were what seemed to be an army of (all attractive) servers, so the place is obviously a popular place for locals. Maybe I missed out on some of their better beers?

Martha's used to be such a great place. However, the service in recent months has gone downhill dramatically.

On May 15, 2004 I had a graduation dinner at Martha's with 10 people. My daughter Becky said it is a great place to go & the food & beer is good.I have read in some older reviews that there was a lot of smoke going from the bar to the smokefree section but there was none going into that section. The food was very tasty and we had no complaints with the service that Allys #421 gave us. I would go back again and we had people with us from 21-90 years old. NO COMPLAINTS!

This was the worst service I've had in my life. Not only was the waitress rude, they took the liberty of tipping themselves more than I authorized - I don't even know if this is legal. That is the last time I'm visiting Martha's Exchange.

I had high expectations for Martha's but was very disappointed. Thin tasting beers, a staff that was unknowlegeable of the product (one said thay don't like beer!) and high prices for food and beer. John Harvards in Framingham has got this place blown away. At least instruct the hostess to smile and say "thank you" to customers as they leave.

The Hamburgers are priced high for what you get. the beer is week and watered down. The smoke is horrible!!! The good things they have are good wait staff and comfortable accomodations. I suggest banning the smoking and find another supplier for the burgers.

Their IPA have the hops that are lacking elsewhere. Their bitters are bitter. They are not afraid to go for the gusto.

Good beer, OK food, but they really need to do something about the cigarette smoke! It flots into the no-smoking area, and is VERY noticable.

We really enjoyed the ambiance of this beautifully appointed restaurant. Tried the sampler and found the Belgian White to be exceptional. The food was more than we could eat and very delicious. We would certainly be regulars if we lived near there. Check this place out!

Decent beer, decent food. Now if we could just get them to join teh 21st century and either ban smkoing or do something about the venting so you wouln't have to walk out if the place stinking like cigarettes even though you were seated in their excuse for a non-smoking area.

Fidelity Investment employess at 200 Liberty Street in New York that survive the World Trade Center attack were reloacted temporarily to Nashua, and the hottest place for us to unwind and have a good time was Martha's exchange. The beer, the music, and the party people were made us forget what we expereince on 9/11.I hope to re-visit soon.

Just recently ate at M's and they have a new Brewer coming online. So they had none of their own biers, only Sam Adams Fest, Redhook IPA and Newcastle Brown. Stay tuned for new biers, I reckon....

This is more of a TGI Friday's type of restaurant than a real brewpub. The food I had was excellent and the service was very good. I sampled all the beers available the day of my visit and found them all to be thin and watery. If I closed my eyes, I am not sure I could have found much difference in any of the five I tried. None of them were bad, they just didn't have much body or character. I did enjoy my lunch visit though and would recommend Martha's Exchange for a good meal.
